Yes! I'll buy that one and while i'm at it, maybe I'll buy Mosport ...er Canadian Tire Motorplex something/something so that I can put practice into hopefully reality someday.

BTW I was ghosting you last night at Lime Rock. Arghh that bunch of pylons at the top of the hill is painful but it was nice that in ghosting I could just blow through them and keep up to you

Ha ha! Yeah, that was a good race for me. Although Craig nearly got me at the end. I had a massive lead most of the race, then all of a sudden he was right on my rear bumper for the last two laps. He was nearly a second faster than me just going through the chicane... said he was taking it in 3rd gear whereas I was downshifting to 2nd, sometimes even 1st gear. 8O Need to practice that section. :shuffle:

Tonight I plan to run the MX5 @ Mosport in the Grand Touring Cup series. I did some practice laps there last night and it was a hoot!

I need to find the time to tear the Jetta around Mosport..and then fit into the restrictive timeslots to actually race. But I get so hung up on figuring out how to keep that damn Skippy planted!

Here's something kinda cool... iRacing is approaching a half billion laps. To celebrate the milestone, they're having a contest. Whoever drives the 500th million lap gets a free 5 year membership. Also any driver that drove in an official race on the day that the half billion lap was run gets $5 of iRacing credit.

Based on the numbers provided so far, I'm predicting the 500th million lap will be driven on April 16th (±6 days).
Or in other words, sometime during Week 11 and 12 of this current season. Image

Easy way to gain a $5 credit... Just run at least one race every day until the 500th million lap milestone is achieved. Plus get a chance at the free 5 year membership!

New calculations? ... I thought yesterday you predicted it sometime this week.

When it was first announced there was a big spike in laps/day, and based on those inflated figures someone (not I) predicted March 27th. But the spike was short lived.

This morning we have a 3rd data sample from which to make calculations, so I decided to try coming up with my own prediction (as indicated above).

I figured I wasn't spending enough time on iRacing (Hahaha) so a I set a new goal for myself... To get an A class licence on oval; even though I never oval race.

I devised a plan that would allow me to accomplish it w/o having to buy any oval-specific content... Just using the default cars / tracks plus some of the dual purpose oval / road content.

The Plan...
  • Run Legends Cup until I get R 3.0... Done
  • Run Street Stock and / or Legends Cup until I fast track to D 4.0... Almost there
  • Run IndyCar Oval [Fixed] @ a dual-purpose track (i.e. Indianapolis / Homestead) to get MPR for C class.
  • Run IndyCar Oval / Street Stock / Legends Cup until I get C 4.0
  • Run IndyCar Oval [Open] @ a dual-purpose track to get MPR for A class.
  • Tada! A class license. 8)

So I started running Street Stock / Legends Cup races this weekend to build up my SR. I don't care about my finishing position, so I always start from the pits to avoid the first lap mayhem & traffic. The Street Stock series has been pretty good. Currently it's at Charlotte which is a big track with lots of room to stay out of trouble. I can easily get a 0 incident race there. But the races only run every two hours.

The Legends Cup races are hourly, so there are twice as many opportunities to build up my SR. However, they're much higher risk. I don't know what it is, but I've never experienced such a bunch of ignorant cussing hillbillies such is the iRacing Legends Cup series. Virtually every session is a total wreck-fest with all kinds of profanity thrown in via voice & text chat. It takes a lot of effort & luck to come out of one of those races without an incident, even when starting from the pits and letting people pass when they come up behind.

It'd be much safer to just do time trails all the time, but they only pay out about 25% SR as compared to races. And I don't really enjoy ovals enough to spend that amount of time driving in circles.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.

Ha ha! Yeah, I think I'll get up to an A 4.99 and then never touch it again.

Already got a D 4.50. Now I just need to wait until the IndyCar oval series goes to Daytona / Indianapolis / Homestead so I can get my MPR for the next level. Won't happen until next season though.

My previous prediction is still right on track the latest "# of laps" update:

Put in at least one race this Sat / Sun / Mon, and you're almost guaranteed a $5 credit. :)

I should open a fortune-telling business.... They hit 500 Million laps yesterday! So if you're one of the 3,143 who ran a race sometime on the 16th, you'll be receiving a $5 credit later this week.

iRacing is paying out nearly $18K to its members in celebration of this milestone. 8O

Just got my credit

...and then a correction email that I can't tell what the difference is :conf:

Thanks for the heads up Scott! I think I'll put it towards buying Mosport... Think Canadian Tire will sell?

I figured I'd use the "Week 13" to take a stab at the Safe Driver Level 3 award. With races happening every 30 minutes, it'd only take 5 hours to get 10 clean races in, right?

Well, things didn't quite work to plan... A few times I got up to 7 or 8 clean races, dropped a wheel, got a 1x, and had to start all over again. Argh!

But persistence prevailed. After 38 races, 525 laps, and 6 incidences...

    Image

... I finally got the award.

    Image

And as a result of all that safe driving, I regained my "A" license and maxed it out to 4.99 SR (although my iRating took a huge hit 8O ).

    Image

Once Season 02 starts, I'm going to try to get the same in oval. I currently have 8/10 clean oval races, just need two more. 8)

Wow, an A rating! Can't say I ever seen one of those with the smash-up-derby guys I race against in the Mazda Cup.

Fantastic accomplishment Scott!

Do you have a link or can you explain to me how the ratings work because no matter how many races I do it just keeps saying that I need to do 4 more? Do I need to get above 4.00 to graduate from D?

Oh, and while I'm at the questions ...how to your export the saved replays so I can share them?

Thanks
Stacy

Actually, this is my 3rd time getting an "A" license. I got it the first time only 6 weeks after joining the service: viewtopic.php?f=42&t=10816&p=93760#p93760

The problem is keeping it.

In order to progress past the D-Class license levels, you need to complete 4 Time Trials or 4 Races using a D-class car. Here's a forum post that explains it much better than I ever could:

And a knowledge base article:

This is also a very good read:

After you've read those 3 links, you have a very good grasp on how it all works.

See section 4.1 – Saving Replays in the "A Beginner’s Guide To iRacing" above.

If you want to take it a step further and get creative with different camera angles and such, take a look at:

These instructions will get a replay file, which is viewable by anyone in the service. But if you want to post them n YouTube, then that's another story. For that you need to use some kind of 3rd party screen capture software to record your replay in a video file format. I have not tried it myself.
