We were talking another endurance race with the 'Vette's since there was only 4 of us Thursday, so I think that may be what we are doing. Either that or starting the NASCAR series...

Supposed to rain Thursday, better postpone the NASCAR series.

Sorry about dropping out of the race...just too many things were going wrong on my end.

I guess I just can't run 2hr race having to shift gears and use the clutch and figure out those god forsaken rain tires...I tried...but then my brain exploded, damn I hate when that happens.

..."oh bugger!".... :P

It was a great race, the closest in a long time.

Varga and I made contact at the end of lap one and both had to pit for repairs.
This changed my race strategy and I switched to hard tires, hoping to catchup to Alek by having less pits stops. This did help to close the gap but not enough. I then decided to do a stint on softs, and started making up huge amounts of time but the tires didn't last. So I decided to split the difference with mediums. I was only back on the track for a lap or two on meds when the rain started.

I held on for as long as I could on meds before pitting for inters, and I think I pitted at just the right time. When I came back out in inters I was catching Alek & Varga by 3-5 seconds per lap. By the time it was raining heavy enough for wets I had caught them.

Switching to full wets I was able to keep a 5-10 second gap on Varga & Alek. However when the rain stopped and the track started to dry Varga began to catch me. I had lost sight of Alek by this point. Varga and I battled it out for 7-10 laps before I made a mistake and spun going onto the front straight. I had slight damage but could have easily continued until I was struck by another car which sent me into the wall. Now I had full damage. I limped into the pits and put inters on for the drying track. When I emerged I was still in 2nd place, about 1min 30secs behind Varga with 9 laps left. I didn't know were Alek was so decided to push as hard as I could. Varga still had to pit and thanks to this I managed to close the gap to 30 seconds. I went sideways on my final few laps a few times and then I saw Alek in my rearview as I started my final lap. I knew full well that my chances of catching Varga were slim to none, he had to make a big mistake and I would need to be close enough to capitalize on it. However with Alek in my rearview I decided to settle for 2nd and bring the car home.

After well over 2hrs of racing the top 3 competitors finished within 36 seconds of each other. I was 34 seconds behind Varga and Alek was 2 seconds behind me.

The combination of tire wear, heavy damage and weather made for a great race!

Any suggestions for Thursdays track/race?

Although I do love driving the Vette, I think its time to switch the series to another car, or even start the NASCAR Series. I know a lot of people are not really looking forward to running the series (kind of a hard car to drive), but it is only a 3 night series, so I'd like to run it!! On the other hand, I wouldn't mind taking a step back in PP for a short series to get some fun back into it. I'm not saying that racing the faster cars isn't fun, but it's a lot more relaxing to run the slower stuff for a break every now and then.

Of course my view may be jaded by how crappy my night went last night :orglaugh:  :orglaugh:

That was great fun guys, even though my little Camaro was outclassed by a long long way haha. I was slow but doing fine up until the rain, then it was a horrible mess (i ran a 2:28:xxx before the rain, which i had to laugh at when i heard that was what you guys were running IN the rain). Tires were getting nothing, and i couldn't get any temp in them to counteract the rain, so i was off almost every turn. But despite all that i had a great time.

I'll get around to adding the rest of you on PSN this evening.

My ID is Albongo87n00b

Once again i had a blast.

I am definitely dreading the NASCAR series. With that being said, I just want to race. So whatever or whenever is fine by me. As for new series ideas: How about a hot hatchback or a one make series?

The hot hatch would be a good low PP series, but I'm pretty sure Mr. Smith wants to get us up to Formula GT cars, IRC I think the next series that was planned after NASCAR was the prototypes or something along those lines.

You are right Mr. Blanchard, I am trying to prepare you for the furry that is the Formula GT cars.
After the short NASCAR series I was thinking LMP cars and then followed by FGTs.

Back to this week, lets do a 90min race on Thursday with the American Cars.

I'd like another track with weather..... so that leave us:

Circuit de la Sarthe 2009
Nürburgring 24h
Autodromo Nazionale Monza
High Speed Ring
Eiger Nordwand Track Short Track <-This would be certain death in the rain.... hehe
Suzuka Circuit <-Ran Suzuka last night
Special Stage Route 7 / Night <-Too Long & boring
Spa Francorchamps <-This would be my first choice but not everyone owns the track

I'd be good with any of the 4 left above, however my vote would be for the Nürburgring (because I love the Green Hell) or Monza.

My vote goes for the Nürbürgring, Monza is a close second.

I'd do the Karts in the rain if it was only 1 or 2 laps, no freaking way I'd run it for 90 mins!!! Although I do love running the carts with all the displays turned off....

As for the race thursday, My vote is for Monza first and Circuit de la Sarthe a close 2nd. I really do love running Lemans, but I think that we should do that endurance race with the LMP cars.

What are you thinking for a LMP pp limit, 720's?

Better late than never i suppose.

#21, '06 Z06, Green/Red wheels

(this time with good sets of racing tires in the pit)

*Edit* Since i'm jumping in at the end of the series i'm happy with any track :)

Ok so Monza it is!

Anyone have any lap times so we can calculate a 90min race?

I didn't get on for long (20 mins tops), but my first few laps in the dry were mid-high 1:40's. I would say bottom 1:40's - high 1:30's would be possible. i spent more time in 100% wet (looking at my wet performance last time) and I was getting high 1:50's on a good lap. Average would probably be in the 2:00 range. You front runners could probably run quicker, but that was my quick trial. I may try to get on in a few hours after my bus run.

Ok lets say 1:40 for arguments sake... so ~54 laps for 90mins in the dry. We can probably expect some rain so lets drop that to 52 laps (300km)

So 52 laps at Monza (weather change) tomorrow night starting at 8pm!

Interesting that F1 cars are about 20 seconds quicker, and they do 53 laps for their race.
