Well...out at the track..."beating" the lotus around trying to get faster and stay consistent, to say the least, it wasn't working out to good for me.

I decided to try turning off the force feedback and "Lo and behold" I became a second faster a lap and stayed consistent for the entire 12 laps or until I toasted my tires.

Hmmm...fighting the steering wheel and racing with other cars was getting to be too much for me...this could be the difference for me placing last and placing second last!!

I did a bunch of back to back stuff with both cars and different ways to get 550pp.
They are not equal cars at all at 550pp, not even close, I could barely beat the 04 with the 96 at max pp.
Used Suzuka, and ghost replays.
Base setups on both, just playing with weight, downforce levels and HP.
The 96 seems to eat tires too.

04 is the only car to pick, unless you want to be rolled over.

running 132.362 consistently on Cape Ring until about the 8th lap then it increases to 133's with tire wear.

I just want to not spin out for one complete race and see where I land...

I didn't get to practice with the car near as much as I wanted, so my setup isn't where I want it, but I'll be ready to go tonight!

I got lucky on cape ring tonight......

Hey I managed run a full race without spinning out..."cross that off the bucket list"...next!

I spent a bunch of time tonight working on the setup for the car, and I think I'm much closer now, was able to run 1:30's consistent on Cape Ring online instead of spinning by LOOKING at a turn. That was possibly the worst setup car I've ever driven in this game!! Hopefully I can get it competitive for Thursday.

I have 2 words for Cape Ring..... fraking backmarkers!

Tsukuba was fun, tight racing. Cape Ring was long enough to spread out the pack that it wasn't quite as interesting.

I like the car though.

i must have found the sweet spot for cape ring setup. All though i could not catch the mighty varga..hahaha.

I Like the car though.

I hated the car, but I think I may have it figured out for Thursday. It was like driving with casters for rear wheels, horrible. Plus, the slightest touch from anyone, and I was gone.

I absolutely loved the car in Practice with Race Hard / tire wear / real grip. It was very controllable and easy to throw the rear sideways if / when you needed to. Very fun and enjoyable.

However, online in Jason's Lounge it was horrible! Like driving on ice. Pure torture / frustration just trying to get about the track without spinning. Very unrealistic as well.

If for whatever reason online play alters grip that much, I think we should switch to another tire compound, say Race Medium or Soft. Then the grip level would be more inline with what we've come to expect with Race Hard offline (i.e. Practice / A-Spec / Seasonal events).

Scott you may want to clarify your post.
We all know Online physics != Practice physics

But what I think you're trying to say is practicing in your online lounge or my online lounge alone is not that same when other people are in it.

Is that correct?

PS-I set the car up using Sports Soft tires. I felt I was able to feel more of what the car was doing/sliding and then when I went to Racing Hard the car just gripped, but if/when it started to slide (or get worse as more people entered the lounge) it was still only as bad as the Sports Soft. I just had to adjust my driving.

No, I'm just saying that to make the series more realistic & enjoyable, we should switch to a tire that provides more grip. Because the online Lounge more closely resembles ice racing than dry asphalt with the Race Hard tires.

I have been, yes. I like having the ghost car and the lap records.

Regardless, there's a bug in GT5 which messes up the level of grip in online Lounge racing. It seems to get proportionally worse as more people join in. We could offset that by using medium or soft tires, which (hopefully) would bring the grip level back up to a realistic level. At least until Polyphony fixes the bug.

I've been playing a lot of iRacing lately, which has a highly developed / accurate tire model, and it offers a lot more grip than GT5 did last night.

We all know that Online physics != Offline Practice physics.
Yes the lap records and ghost car are absolutely great tools, but if the physics are not the same (which we know they aren't) then it's not really helping.

I also agree with your second point, that the more people in the room the worse the grip level gets. I'm doing some investigation right now to see if it can be mitigated by using the "race quality" option.

I'm not sold on the "physics" being different. I feel that it's just the level of grip, which in effect alters the car's handling. (i.e. less grip needs a softer setup.)

-Try and flip a car in "practice"... it's pretty easy.
-Now try and flip in online... it's impossible.

You're not gonna flip when you're sliding across ice! There's not enough grip for the tires to catch anything.

I highly doubt Polyphony would take the time to develop two different physics models. I wouldn't make any sense logically or financially.
