Went back to Cape ring and played with the setup a bit, think I found something that will work, still have to be careful, but its better.
Could manage mid 2:34's on cold/worn tires and lap in the low 2:32's on good ones for several laps in a row, completely different car vs the thing last night.
I set grip level to real, no idea if it makes a difference or not.

I did some practice tonight.... didn't make any changes to my setup except transmission settings.

London
0.51.185

TGTT
1.08.064

Sarthe
4.01.130

Didn't have a chance to run Madrid yet.

I have no idea if these are quick or not, but maybe others can post their times.

Brian, did you sell your XBOX and buy a PS3? If so congrats, and welcome to the party.

No, I just put those numbers in to make Jason try harder, but I think he knew better

I may just do that though, this sounds exciting, and not so much BS!

EDIT Maybe he didn't know better, he just sent me a message asking if I bought one.

Oh I had the following comment typed up...

"No wheel, No GT5, No PS3" but I didn't post it on the slim off chance you actually bought the PS3.

Found this bit of info on GT Planet that may also explain the different grip levels between practice and online.

OFFLINE FREE RUN
-increase car KM: ON
-consume tyres / fuel: OFF

ONLINE FREE RUN
-increase car KM: OFF
-consume tyres / fuel: ON
-drafting: OFF

ONLINE RACE
-increase car KM: ON
-consume tyres / fuel: ON
-drafting: ON

It's not possible to DRAFT in ONLINE FREE RUN, but DRAFTING is possible during ONLINE RACE.

EDIT: Reading a bit more on GTP I found that doing a "One Make Race" with tire wear and fuel depletion on causes the physics to behave more like online.

I think the real issue is tires. In practice A) they are warm from the start, and B) don't degrade. In online they always start cold and need time to heat up (and fronts/rears heat up at different rates). Also when you go off or spin your tires online, they wear.... not so in practice.

One person has come to me asking if the start time can be move to 9pm for tonight's game.

Does anyone object to a 9pm start time?

I've heard from most of you, most say the 9pm start time should work so we'll go with that.

Again, as Varga stated, the new format is MUCH quicker, if we start at 9pm we should be done by 10:30.

Note: last time we raced, it took us just over 2 hours (20:00 to 22:05).

Nothing bothers Varga, as he is heavily-medicated...and doesn't have to get up in the morning!

For what it's worth, I prefer the regular 20:00 start. (So, I hope that this is just a one-time accommodation). Maybe others do too...if so, speak up.

Cheers,

We actually didn't start last time until after 2030 because of connection difficulties.

9:00pm works for me. Then I don't have to battle over the PlayStation with the rug-rat. ;)

Okay...then it should really be 90 minutes or so...good. I'm up at 5 am, but I'm sure that I'm one of very few...

21:00--this will give Varga more time to medicate himself, tonight!

Moving it to 9pm should be a 1 time thing.....
Honestly I'd like to have it at 7pm, but like Scott said some people have to fight for their PS3 and/or wait for their kids to go to bed.

Just finished the 1st half of the European leg of the Super GT series.

Lots of closing racing going on tonight all through out the pack.

Varga and I tied tonight with two wins and two 2nd places, for 96 points each. This leaves Varga in the lead by 17pts.
Joel picked up 3rd place in three of the races.
John ran a great race at Madrid and finished 3rd in that race.
McIntyre is moving his way up the field with three 4th place finishes tonight.
Harrod snatched that other 4th place spot on the Top Gear Test Track.
Mortifuri and Trvbck are driving well against some experinced competition.
Tonight was Trevor's first night with a wheel, I think once he learns how to use it he's going to be signifigantly quicker.
Jay's been working on a secret weapon... a different suspension setup for each track. It could be promising!

Unfortunately Paul & Ming were unable to attend tonight and Trevor had to leave early.

Lots of fun tonight, and it was very clean and polite racing at the front (I heard some fenders were bent at the back of the pack) :)

Thanks again to Varga who accidently spun me at Marid on the last lap, and then slowed to allow me to take the place (1st) back. A true gentlemen & racer!

EDIT: I'm glad we finished when we did, the GT5 servers went offline at 11pm.

Next event is the 2nd half of the European leg Sunday night at 8pm!

I finally figured out the secret to success... Slow down, drive conservatively, and capitalize on the mistakes of those in front of you.

That's probably why Varga is doing so well... his medication has him so relaxed! ;)

Myself and John K. had some pretty good battles last night. When one of us made a mistake the other would pass. I must say that I need a lot more practice driving at night. I was over a minute behind the leader at La Sarthe.

Okay so the new update takes a really long time to download. It's saying 200 minutes. It's been downloading for 15 minutes now and is only at 7%.

Make sure everyone has this done before Sunday night.

Eeek! I assume it does this the next time you load GT5...? I'll have to start it tonight before I go to bed.

Yeah, I sat down to do an endurance race. Instead I'm doing the update. Not as fun.

So it took about an hour and a half. Lots of new things in the game. Performance points (PP) are now in effect. You can adjust weight balance, and each individual gear in your transmission. A nice upgrade is that you can choose your tires in tuning mode, not in your driving options.

My update took less than 1/2 hour, but then I have my PS3 hardwired into a gigabit router and I shut down all other internet activity beforehand.

You're right, there's a ton of new features / improvements with this update, many of which will make our online series that much better!

Is the car list in the first post accurate? I'm building my cash fund up to buy a car and want to get her all set up and broken in and give this another try.

Harrod, good call on the update. I'll let that run today while I work around the house.

I just read the list of updates, 99% of them look positive, but they lowered the cash value for races to pre 1.05 so now races like American Series / Indy will be 97,000 instead of 117,000.... but they are supposed to have more XP.

I suggest everyone read this....
http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/news/d5552.html

One thing I noticed they didn't mention was the TCS issue for the DFGT... I'm hoping they fixed it but didn't mention it, but seeing the detailed list of fixes/changes I'm guessing they didn't. I'll read GTPlanet later and see. But I'm not willing to test/risk it incase they didn't.

Steve, (I just updated the list) the only car not called is the "LEXUS ENEOS SC430 '08"

Ok guys you should share some of your B-Spec drivers online.
That way we can all do "Remote Racing" and earn a small amount of cash for each other.

Just by putting my B-Spec driver online, Jason has earned me $14K so far by racing against my driver.... And I haven't lifted a finger. :D

We should all put up a B-Spec driver. I believe as many as 16 can be entered in a "remote" race.
