Hello all,

For this series we will be racing the SuperGT cars found in the New Car Dealership for $950,000cr

Image

Again this will be clean racing (for an example of rules and etiquette please see the link below)
http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=111241
Penalties for false starts, ramming, bumping and shortcuts will be enabled and set to "weak".

Each person must choose a different car.
Updated SuperGT List

Dino* - HONDA RAYBRIG NSX '06
McIntyre HONDA TAKATA DOME NSX '06
Trevor G. - HONDA ARTA NSX '06
Paul - HONDA EPSON NSX '08
Jason - NISSAN XANAVI NISMO Z '06
Harrod - NISSAN Calsonic IMPUL GT-R '08
Ming - NISSAN WOODONE ADVAN Clarion GT-R '08
John K. - NISSAN XANAVI NISMO GT-R '08
Shawn - NISSAN YellowHat YMS TOMICA GT-R '08
Varga - NISSAN MOTUL AUTECH GT-R '08
Jay B. - LEXUS BANDAI DIREZZA SC430 '06
Joel - TOYOTA YellowHat YMS Supra '05
Alex A.* - LEXUS PETRONAS TOM'S SC430 '08
Trevor P. - LEXUS DENSO DUNLOP SARD SC430 '08
Steve P. - LEXUS ENEOS SC430 '08

All these cars are incredible close in spec and as such only oil changes, engine and chassis rebuilds are permitted. You'll note that the cars range in HP from ~450hp to ~500hp from the dealership. I believe once an oil change and engine breakin period are complete all cars will be within 20hp of each other.

This factored with the fact all these cars are such a close spec should make for some very close racing.

NO HORSEPOWER MODIFICATIONS PERMITTED!!!
NO WEIGHT REDUCTIONS PERMITTED!!!!

-No ASM
-No Skid Recovery Force
-No Active Steering
-Weight Restrictions (1100kg)
-Tire Restrictions (Racing Hard)
-HP Restrictions (Post Oil Change & Engine Break in), rounded up to the nearest setting)

TCS & ABS will be permitted.
False Starts will be enabled.
Off Track Grip will be set to Real
Penalties will be set to Weak

Unlike the previous series there will no points for qualifying. The first race of the night will be a random grid. The following races will all be reverse grid based on the previous race results.

Code:
1st    25
2nd    23
3rd    21
4th    18
5th    15
6th    12
7th    11
8th    10
9th     9
10th    8
11th    7
12th    6
13th    5
14th    4
15th    3
16th    2

*You'll notice that 12th place now gets 6pts, in our previous series 12th place only received 1 point, so this should tighten up the points battle even more.

Bluetooth Headsets Strongly Recommended!
I can't stress that enough! Any Bluetooth headset will work, just make sure to pair it with your PS3. Futureshop has a good selection as well.

For tracks with Time / Weather or Reverse, I will select a random time, set the weather to random and flip a coin for reverse.

The difference being they only have aprox 300hp as opposed to 500hp. Depending on the cars, some maybe able to be modded to 500hp. But this will be a last resort.

I don't think we're going to have that issue.

BTW I plan to do some engine break in and suspension tuning this weekend. I was already taking to one member who used his car in a 1000km B-Spec race to break the engine in. HP went from 489 to 503 and he hasn't even driven it yet.

looking forward to it. Thursdays may be a little tight for me, if anyone else has this issue; could we possibly bump the start time to 8:30pm. Thanks for taking the time to co-ordinate all of this Jason.

AHHHHHHHHH......... I just relized that
1. I modded my car and can not undo my motor mods. Just bought another one..... at least its the cheapest at 900,000cr
2. I have the lowest horsepower/ torque (along with the lexus cars)
3. Jason has like 160 Ft-lbs of torque more then most of us.......
But my car is 10KG lighter then all of you. hahahahahahahaha.

Also it would have been cool if we could have changed the numbers on the cars. anyway........ ganna try and figure out how to stop spinning this damn car out all the time...

I've decided to try traction control set to zero this time around, so I'll be spinning right along with ya. ;)

I tried zero ABS... Just look at the brake pedal and it locks up, so back to setting "1".

Did anyone else check their HP once they left the game? I lost 20hp over the 4 races. An oil change brought it right back up to post engine break in.

I didn't save any replays (because I didn't think I'd need them for scoring) but I would like to see them for pix.
Did anyone save any replays?

EDIT:
I don't have any race pix, but here are some of my Z.

I emailed you the instructions. Call me if tonight if you run into issues or have questions.

IMPORTANT INFO FOR ALL GT5 PLAYERS

Besides the before mentioned TCS setting bug, there's another more deadly bug in GT5. Play special attention to your save game file. If it goes over 4mb you'll be unable to play GT5. I just checked mine and it's 1mb, so I'm 1/4 of the way there. Right now there is no fix, but to slow it down, DO NOT GO INTO YOUR MUSEUM.

More info in the link below:
http://www.gtplanet.net/this-gran-turis ... your-game/

UPDATE: Kazunori Yamauchi has addressed this issue via Twitter, confirming that it will be fixed in the next game update to be released on February 18th

These SuperGT car are tricky to drive. Mine was usless at that Cap Ring track, just useless!
The other tracks it was super loose, but I spun about 8 times at that one track.
The GTR's all seem to be on rails, is there a difference between the cars?
All the NSX's and Joel supra all seemed to be having trouble.

I own 4 different SuperGT cars.... two '08 GT-Rs, an NSX and the Z.

I find the NSX feels nimble, the GT-Rs feel heavier but are the most well balanced (IMHO), and the Z is a beast that tries to kill you at every corner.

I even noticed a difference between the two GT-Rs, the Yellowhat was easier to drive right out of the box, the Woodone seemed to be a bit heavier but seemed to have more power (would spin the rear tires easier). On paper they are identical, but they don't feel it.

I'd say each car has it's pros and cons, which makes things interesting.
Now I didn't do any suspension tuning to my Z.... Varga / McIntyre / Jay (or anyone else) did you guys do any tuning to your cars?
If you search the interwebs you can probably find a tuning setup for your car. As always use at your own risk, but you can always easily revert back to defaults or tweak as needed.

It's also worth noting that Varga's car has the least HP out of the box, 452hp (before oil change and engine break in) and he's in the points lead. :)

With my NSX, I cannot give it full throttle unless the car is pointing straight; otherwise I swap ends (with or without TCS). Same thing with braking. It's very loose.

And that's with fresh tires. I find the tires (especially the rear) degrade about 10% every lap. And once the tires are more than 20% worn the car is nearly unmanageable. I essentially have to slow my corner entry / exit every lap just to maintain forward motion.

Like Paul's, the car was miserable at the Cape Ring... I could not get through the loop without spinning not matter how slow I went, especially in the later laps.

But the NSX is pretty fast in the straights, and it's fairly easy to overtake someone presuming I hadn't spun in the proceeding corner. ;)

During practice I tried the default settings, then tried a top-secret voodoo interwebs settings, but honestly I couldn't really tell the difference. So I kept the super hawt world wide web settings for the race.

I have to do something about the looseness of the car though before the next meet.

Try loosening your rear sway bar Scott.... that should help with the oversteer.
You may want to change your brake bias to something like 8/4. IIRC that 'voodoo tune' you found on the interwebs has very unorthodox brake bias.

I think the main reason a lot of us had trouble with Cape Ring is because our cars were too stiffly sprung for that bumpy uneven track. You couldn't even look at those high kerbs without spinning.

Some people were also noticing a difference in grip levels between practice and online. This maybe related to the "low grip surfaces" settings. In the game it's default to "low" but we set it to "real" for the online races. It should only effect surfaces like, grass, sand, painted lines, or if something is wet.... but maybe it effects all surfaces.

I already have the sway bars set to 1/1. I'm gonna have to try softening the rear springs / dampers.

I thought we were going to use "low"... That what you had stated in your original post... :nenado:

EDIT: Now I see what they are doing. By setting the sway bars to 1/1 they are basically turning them off and adjusting everything with the springs.

I thought the settings were "low" and "high or normal", but I guess they are "real" and "low". I'll correct the post.

I practiced for an hour or so the day before, where I softened the car and added more camber and toe.

I think that the mid engined layout always needs more camber in the back than the front. I cannot drive these cars at the limit. Even the lotus Elise gets the same treatment.

Try -3.5 to -4 camber for the back and soften it a bit but keep swaybar at 5 or 6.
Try -2.5 camber for the front swaybar at 5?

If you have severe oversteer in then you should toe out maybe 0.5

I am going to buy one and try it out today

The steering input from a controller is too severe unless you are gifted with a high but light-touched frequency. You break static friction much faster than when you use the wheel!

I just practiced at Cape Ring about 6 laps With the RAYBRIG NSX 06' at each setting below

With only downforce set to maximum and no other changes I managed a 2:38.355

Wth the settings stated below I managed a 2:35.044

Rear Camber -4.0
Front Camber -2.5
Front Toe +0.15, Rear toe +0.2

Ride hight unchanged,

Front Spring at 13, dampers at 7 and 7 and antiroll at 6

rear Spring at 13.5, dampers at 7 and 7 and anti roll at 6

This car needs finess to drive.....consistency will be more difficult to achieve in my opinion

What were the stock settings?
You had toe in on your front?
-4 in the rear that's a lot of camber for a rwd car..... was the tire wear any different? (Nevermind, I don't think tires or fuel gets used in practice)

Personal driving style aside, one idea I had was to give the car to B-Spec "Bob" and let him drive it. Then make changes and let him drive it again (same race) and compare fastest laps.

I find the GTR pretty good to drive. I've done some tuning to help it steer better. The only real problem is me. However, one tire off the pavement and it's all over.

I enjoyed the racing last night. Definately made things more interesting.

During practice with my NSX I ran 2:34 using the secret über interweb settings (below), but in the race with "grip reduction" set to "real", I could not complete a lap without spinning into the weeds. :?

The Lexus is a bit of a handful, too. It's hard to get on the throttle...throttle-induced oversteer.

Now I didn't do any suspension tuning to my Z.... Varga / McIntyre / Jay (or anyone else) did you guys do any tuning to your cars?

I tune my suspension, rear wing, and transmission for every different track. Generally, I stiffen up the suspension for high-speed tracks and soften it for the low speed tracks/city stuff. Also, I like a car with a lot of front end grip, so my rear suspension is always stiffer. Obviously, the wing adjustment is what you'd expect, then I set the transmission to just over the top speed (to account for drafting). I'm sure that I'm not doing anything special...

I'm not very quick, so perhaps some others might chime in on their setups....
