Sitting down for 2 hours a couple times a week in the middle of winter is hardly effort..

Question: I have a hands-free ear piece that works with my cell phone. Will this device also work with my PS3?

(I'm not home to try this...and I'll likely pick up a PS3-compatible headset on the way home from work).

Paul: SM? Really? Or is Bruce working ya over?

Any Bluetooth headset should work.... you just need to pair it.

ARMS agreed to let us classify the Corvette as an SM car to bolster entries. We agreed to install a throttle stop to only permit 1mm of travel.

Thanks Jason.

Ha...a SM Corvette! Maybe it would be easier to add 2000 lb of ballast...or SM spec tire sizes!

Perhaps the Corvette can run SM with only one hole - 25mm dia restrictor plate, 2000lb ballast, 5.38 FD gearing & a deployed drag chute.

I took me a few races to figure it out. Once you pair it you also have to go into the accessory setting of your PS3 and enable the input/output for your ear piece. at least that's what I had to do. Hope to see you there Jay.

Hey all,

I don't have time to post pix or full results right now, but the standings have changed a bit.

Without Joel, Paul drove a perfect night last night, with 4 poles and 4 victories totaling 120pts, enough to put him in the lead.

We have our last race this Thursday, I'll do the track selections later tonight.

For the SuperGT series, may I suggest we start the "season" with a full calendar of event dates & tracks? That would help people schedule and practice/tune ahead of time.

Agreed. I'm thinking we do longer races 10-20 laps, no qualifying (grid reverse previous race results, random grid first race), and adjusting the point system.

I'm also working on a "success" penalty system similar to the SuperGT "Success Ballast" system. I'm thinking tires, but I need to do some testing and figure out a system.

Just some interesting info, based on a "skid pad test" with a 2010 Camaro SS this is what G's each tire generated.
Code:
Comfort Hard CH 0.85
Comfort Medium CM 0.91
Comfort Soft CS 0.98
Sports Hard SH 1.04
Sports Medium SM 1.10
Sports Soft SS 1.16
Racing Hard RH 1.23
Racing Medium RM 1.29
Racing Soft RS 1.35

In real life SuperGT does not use TC or ABS, however due to the TCS "permanently dead" bug in GT5 we will be permitting TCS, and ABS. However ASM, SRF and Active Steering will still be banned.

Getting back to the Spec M3 Series.....
Here are the points tallies so far including last night:
1 turbined 366
2 MerlinRPM 264
3 joelnelson 258
4 vincentq4 217
5 S_AND_S 114
6 Mr_4G63T 108
7 Azrielx 61
8 DonDDL 48
9 nd4speed1 45
10 Bimmerfreak41
11 s3th10u5 40
12 FormulaFunRacing 39
13 stevedp 29
14 Mortifuri 11
15 oat69 5

On Thursday we will race all real world tracks:
-Top Gear Test Track (5 Laps)
-Laguna Seca (5 Laps)
-Sarthe (3 Laps)
-Nürburgring Nordschleife (2 Laps)

I don't know about this one, will be very hard to make work.
In a real series, the drivers are all more or less at the same level, and its more a teams ability to maximize the car, or a powertrain advantage, that makes ballast something useful.
Its very difficult to fairly handicap a driver.

It would certainly suck if an early leader had to carry the "success" penalty throughout the whole series. But if the handicap were adjusted on a race-by-race basis it could work.

For example: The tire compound you run any given race could be determined by your finishing position in the previous race. Win a race, then the next one you're on the hard compound. Finish that race at the back or mid-field, then the next race you're back on soft or medium tires. Etc. Etc.

True.

So long as you don't get bored driving waaaay in front of the field all the time, eternally waiting for the rest of us to develop God-like skills. ;)

If not, there's always the "boost" feature which would close up the field without any extra administrative work.

To me, it really doesn't matter either way. There are still lots of good mid-field battles to be had. :)

I just think it should be kept as realistic as possible, I don't really care where I am or where I finish as long as its fun.
But if people don't have any direct control of where they are finishing, kinds blows the point of it really.
I kind of like always starting near the back and watching all of you guys crash into each other for the first lap.

I think we're just trying to keep it as fun and interesting as possible.

EDIT: I also looked in the game manual today and saw that it supports up to 16 players.... so that's good.

For the next series we should leave out the success penalty. A lot of work for someone. We should run the soft tires and make it a minimum one pit stop. Although running 20 laps, you will need to make more then one stop.

For what my opinion is worth, I'm not in favour of longer races...I like the existing format. Also, I'm not in favour of any sort of ballast system. Existing systems in Touring cars are very-well thought out and the racing is extremely entertaining and competitive. However, with our series, I'm not so sure that this could be fairly accomplished. Fair is having spec cars...equal opportunity for everyone.

Just for what it's worth I did some testing with an M3 GTR when I got home... ~600hp and 1124kg.

Used Laguna Seca as my test track.
Using the Hard Racing Tires as my base I found this:
Medium Racing - 4% Faster
Soft Racing - 8% Faster

Curiously enough....
Sports Soft only 1.5% Slower
(but this maybe because I had put in a few laps and had gotten used to the car/circuit)

Sounds like no one wants the "success penalties" anyways so that makes it easy. This was more or less just an experiment.

Here's what I'm thinking for points for the SuperGT series (no qualifying points, only race points)
*Starting positions will be reversed previous race position

Code:
Pos     4   3     2   # of Races Per Night
1st    25   33   50
2nd    23   31   46
3rd    21   28   42
4th    18   24   36
5th    15   20   30
6th    12   16   24
7th    11   14   22
8th    10   12   20
9th     9   11   18
10th    8   10   16
11th    7   9    14
12th    6   8    12
13th    5   7    10
14th    4   6     8
15th    3   5     6
16th    2   4     4

ARMS PS3 GT5 Championship Results

Paul has over a 100 point lead at the moment.
I'm only 6 points ahead of Joel (but Joel missed a night). Joel is averaging 86 points per night while I'm only averaging 66pts a race so Joel should easily retake his 2nd place position.
Varga is in contention for 3rd place, with an average of 72.3 points per night.

McIntyre had his best night yet, and is only 6pts behind Harrod. That could be a close battle Thursday night!

With only less than 10pts separating 8th - 12th there are going to be some great battles in there.

I'm thinking we do longer races 10-20 laps, no qualifying (grid reverse previous race results, random grid first race), and adjusting the point system.

For what my opinion is worth, I'm not in favour of longer races...I like the existing format.

Keep in mind that there would be no qualifying and the Super GT cars will be a fair bit quicker than the M3, so more laps does not necessarily mean longer races / sessions.

Personally, I found a number of times I was starting to reel in a car in front of me but ran out of laps in a 5-lap race. :(

I'd say 10 laps would great for an average-length track in the Super GT cars.

Good points. However, the nice thing about practice/qualifying is that it allows time for participants to join the session. Not everyone joins the session at the exact same time.

I'm the new guy...I'm not organizing...so I'll go along with whatever you guys want...but I thought that I'd share my thoughts with you...2 cents worth...I'm running out of pennies.
