I'll start with the bad news. We no longer have use of the Stoneridge Fellowship Church as an autoslalom venue for 2017. As of right now, most of our schedule for this year is up in the air.The exec is working hard at trying to secure new venues and will will make announcements about firm dates if/when we get something. Right now, these are the dates we are comfortable confirming:

May 7th @ SSW Cancelled, May be rescheduled
June 10th @ CFB Shearwater
June 21st @ Scotia Speedworld - Club event (evening, pre-registration only)
June 30th @ Digby Airport - Slalom School + Test & Tune
July 1st @ Digby Airport - Regional Event #2
July 2nd @ Digby Airport - Regional Event #3
July 15 @ SSW - 7pm to 12am, non-points!
July 22 @ CFB Shearwater
August 13th @ CFB Shearwater
August 26 @ Atlantic Motorsports Park - Regional Event #6
October 14 @ CFB Shearwater

Changes for 2017:

Classes

ISI Raw Time Challenge: ISI Automotive is putting up a $500 prize for a new class. The rules are simple: No PAX, no classes. You vs everyone, scored based on raw time only. Uses the same scoring system as the rest of the class groups: (Your time)/(Top Time) x 100. Everyone who is an ASCC member is automatically entered in this class. If you win both this class *and* the overall PAX championship you'll be pretty cool.

Novice Class:
If you have done 4 slalom events or less (lifetime) then you can enter the new novice class. In this class you will only be scored against other novice drivers, based on PAX. At the end of the year the winner will be awarded the "Rookie of the year" trophy.

I am also looking into novice programs at other clubs to pull ideas. I want to improve our novice retention rates.

Street Modified Street Tire (T-SM, T-SSM, T-SMF)
This is to align with the new regional ruleset. If you are running 200tw street tires (or greater) you can run the "street tire" version of your appropriate street modified class. A PAX modifier of 0.980 will be applied to the class PAX. For example, if you run T-SM, your PAX will be 0.980*0.861 = 0.844. 0.980 is the accepted street tire factor as published by Rick Ruth who created & maintains the PAX system.

Passengers

Starting in 2017, passengers are now allowed at all Club events during competition runs. Passengers must still meet the requirements of the rulebook (age restrictions), and it is one passenger only, in the front seat. Regional and National events will still not allow passengers. So at Digby and AMP passengers are not allowed during competition runs.

Cost

Due to greatly increased rental costs this year, all single day club events will increase to $30. This applies to Scotia Speedworld and Shearwater. Digby and AMP cost TBD. We aren't happy about this, but we feel that Shearwater will be worth it.

Shearwater has been the Slalom Holy Grail as long as I've been involved with ASCC. Way to go guys! Lemonade out of lemons!

With these venues and offers, I can't imagine needing to leave the province to autocross

This is sounding quite appealing. Can make a full airfield schedule with Shearwater, Digby then a visit to Maine for Loring. That would be awesome.

What area at Shearwater?

The old parking lot (by the CanEx bldg) on the right as you head for Eastern Passage, where we used to run, or in the airport section.

Dave, I am pretty sure it is part of one of the runways. I think.

From Google maps it looks like they have let the main runways get pretty run down, and also looks like there is a fence that intersects the taxiways. The main area nearest the buildings looks really good though.

It's very likely going to be somewhere on the large runway, or the wide taxiways. We asked for a 200' x 1000' section. I'll be asking Debbie to get confirmation at next week's meeting. I need to know soon so I can start doing some rough course layouts and planning paddock area.

In all likelihood the surface will be rough, but we'll work with what we get.

It's must be the big runway and the parts of the taxiway up to the fence. The fence delineates between the active and inactive sections. In recent years it had gotten more difficult to even run the Shearwater triathlon through the active runway areas. The bike section used to cut through the active section to the big runway until last year. The old runway now has the road accesses for anyone that hasn't been up there in a while. You can come in off Caldwell Road. There have been road hockey tournaments and winter storage of vehicles from the port in that area. There are speed bump heaves and bike tire cracks you'll want to avoid in a few places, but you won't see those until you're there I imagine.

This is exciting!

Not interested in having a regional until we've had a year to run the site, get everything worked out and make sure the surface is actually worth a long drive.

Any ARMS member is welcome at our club events.

I highly doubt you will ever see Digby switched with Shearwater. We use the regional factory in Digby to try and bring in a few extra drivers. Help keep the costs down for all involved.

Now AMP, that could get switch to Shearwater in my mind. That could be something we see in the future. But we need to see how Shearwater is before we try a regional there.

AMP would become a club event as We normally see 45 ASCC members there.

I get ya, it's just that Digby is such a hard place to get to from around here

Shearwater on July 22 has been confirmed.

I've also updated the second post with rules/changes for this year.

Updated with May 7th event @ SSW. Like all SSW events, if rain is forecast we will cancel.

We're also looking at doing a SSW event with the lights on on July 15th. Start at 7pm, run until 12am. This will likely be non points.
