My first race was a breeze, I was able to find a good rhythm and then it was simply a case of staying on the black stuff. I had an awesome 360 as well that I saved. Will have to send that to Youtube.

The second race was more of a mess where I hit a wall but was able to continue and get repaired without a tow. Managed to get back in to 2nd and 5 seconds down on Dave before being an idiot and touching a kerb. Note to self, cars that generate downforce due to ground effects do not like lifting off the ground. I slammed into the wall and got 'rubber banded' to the armco and had to take the tow. With only 51 seconds remaining in the session and with a 3 minute tow, I was able to figure I wouldn't be able to finish any higher.

I suggest the FR2.0 in a similar rotation to what we used to do with the SM. It's the new de facto "user friendly" open wheel car, though we should lock down the setup so Scott can't laugh at us as we struggle to catch up

I'd also like a GT series again, but I love me some GT cars, or the V8s. Maybe we can do another Ring series, unless people are getting bored of it.

Heh. That win certainly wont go to my head. It was luck. I'll take it... but it was still luck.

As far as a summer season. I'm in. Maybe where you featured a new track for this season you might consider one of the new cars for the next. The FR2 or the New Global Mazda? And also maybe some longer races, like one long race instead of two shorter ones?

Even better!!!!! Skippys, and then mimic the current skippy season so i don't have to learn a new set of cars and tracks every week... Just kidding... Sort of... :D

The baseline setup is really easy to drive and works everywhere. We could just use that.

Even in the official series I'm essentially using the same setup each week and only changing tire pressures +/- 1 psi.

We should reintroduce the QuikQuinn's Miata Cup that we ran in the ARMS League and alternate with the FR2.0 hahahaha.

There has been talk of a single longer race in the past but I think the general consensus has always been with sticking with the two shorter races. It's helpful if you make a mistake in one race to atone for it in the second, instead of just being screwed for the only race of the week.

^ Two sprint races also allow people to catch the second race if they cannot make the first one.

The Indy series wrapped up last night at Suzuka and all the drivers were awarded a top 5 finish. ;-)

Was expecting a close race but others had problems in the opening laps of the first race so was just putting in laps until the end, trying not to trip over any of the curbs. Second race Ryan was keeping me honest, never more than a few seconds back until about 3 laps towards the end when he must had had a small problem and dropped back a bit further. Congrats to John for picking up 2 podiums and Randy a steady pair of 4ths places.

Just the last round of the Ring to go for this season. Art and I are going to be rearranging suspension components on L49s once again.

For the summer we're thinking of subcontracting out the league to have a few special events. We've had a few good ideas but instead of a regular series we'd thought we'd let people organize one or two events each. So want to try dirt, pick a date, time, track and cars, and let us know. Want to try a short oval... pick the cars, track, and date and let us know. Want some practice before a league event,... set up a similar event and let us know. Also if you want to put a team or two together for an enduro event, again just let us know. There are a few guidelines that might make the event more successful:

- give at least a couple weeks advance notice before the event

- attendance might be better if we don't have to buy a car and track for a one off (not saying it can't be something new, but more might show if don't have to buy both)

- we are not limited to Tuesday nights (have been kicking around switching to Wednesdays once the regular season starts in the Fall). Weekends can be busy during the summer though so keep that in mind.

If you need a hand setting up the server we can assist. We will also cross post the event on the Regulars forum. Also you can invite other leagues/drivers to join in if you like (i.e. it doesn't have to be Regulars only).

The spin I suffered in the first race was stupid and caught me by surprise. I didn't think I had my rear tires on the astroturf coming out of the Denger curves, but when the VTEC kicked in I spun right into the wall. From there it was simply a tow and wait before puttering around.

Race 2 went a lot better, though I benefited from being behind Ken at the start. I could see when he floored it and I used the draft to get past Art into First corner. From there my only big mistake was locking the brakes into the hairpin where I suffered a half spin.

I'm still looking to see if anyone wants to do part, or all of the 24 hours of the Nurburgring. The multi-class is not nearly as bad as people act, and there is no commitment of getting the team through the whole 24 hours. We'll do what we can then walk away and come back as we can.

Ring Lotus reults posted.

Congrats to Trevor on the wins. With everyone in the Lotus 49 it was a lot like a GPL flashback. Though most of could have used a shift-r or two (that's an instant reset for you non-GPL people ;-) )

First race started off with Trevor chasing Art and I was chasing John. Randy disappeared very early, and then Art stopped in the pits at about half a lap in to keep him company. I stayed behind John the first couple laps and should have stayed there but got a good draft on the long straight and went by. Was short lived as adjusted the LF control arms on some armco about halfway though the 3rd lap. Hobbled around and was surprised to see John sitting against the armco near the second carousel. Thanks to the mandatory SMI BBQ in the pits on the first lap managed to get back to the pits still in second place. A quick repair and set off again, but Trevor was well out in front at this point.

Second race was a lot more fun. No one set a qualifying time so started behind Trevor. Early in the first lap Trevor had a spin, which left Art chasing until the long uphill run when he had an off. Trevor was only about 4s behind and reeled me in over the rest of the lap. Held him off for a lap (set a new PB in the process) then it was my turn for an off but rejoined right behind Trevor. Managed to follow him for another lap but on the last lap got out of shape on one of the crests after Flugplatz. Car drove incredibly well after hitting the armco flat out in 5th. Randy finished off the season with a steady 3rd place (Art and John must have stopped to clean up on the leftovers from the BBQ).

Another season wrapped up . The iracing league scoring shows me in the lead of the Ring standings but the official scoring (which only counts the top 16 results, and takes off the penalty points for incs), puts Brian Gay at the top with me just 2 points behind. Brian missed the last 3 events (6 races), but he won 8 of the 16 races he was there for. So congrats to "Ringmaster" Brian.

Fortunately for me attendance does count in Indycars. ;-) I came out ahead of Scott, despite Scott winning 8 of the 14 races he attended.

http://www.danlisa.com/scoring/season_s ... on_id=5009

Thanks to everyone that joined in this season. We've found over the years it matters more who you are racing than what you are racing, so thanks for making it fun. As mentioned before we are going to take a bit of a break over the summer, but watch this space for fun runs and special events. We'll be back in the Fall with a "Regular" season.

This past season was the most fun i've had with the Regulars so far, awesome group of people to race with.
I feel bad for missing so many races, it's just that time of year when real racing takes life over and all else gets put on hold.
It's been a crazy month of May for me and will continue to be crazy until after our first race weekend.

Hope to see some of you at the track this summer! (It would be great to see everyone at the track but I realize that some of you live in other time zones...lol)

I know most of you are in the yahoo group, but for those that aren't we are kicking around ideas for the upcoming season:
Quote:
Re: [gplf3r] Thoughts on the fall season?

Do you have any?

Hello, hello, is this thing on?

New build should be due out from iracing in a couple of weeks, not sure what's included. (Lemans &Imola due soon).

The latest MX5 is a nice ride (well balanced, good brakes), there's the FR 2.0 (is that just a modern FM?), there are plenty of GT3s out there now.

Some have suggested moving to Wednesday nights will bring a bigger crowd. Are you violently for/against that?

I received the email, but wasn't sure how to get on the Yahoo group (my age is starting to show).

I'd like to try the FR 2.0. The new MX-5 looks like it would be fun too.

I haven't turned on iRacing since March. I need to install my new brake pedal load sensor...and likely a day of updates!

Was it Tuesday last year? Wednesday sounds like a better day for me as of right now. I'd like to be a bit more 'regular' this winter.

Either Tuesday or Wednesday is fine for me. FR 2.0 and New Global Mazda both sound fun.

I think wed should work fine. I am not a big fan of the MX5, prefer the faster stuff, but whatever the group votes for is fine.
I like GT3 for the variety of cars.
I have only tried the FR2.0 once, but it seems fun, be prepared for Scott to kill everyone in it.

With La Sarthe coming out for next season, I was putting a suggestion forward to have one week similar to what we did with the 'ring last season. Instead of One Ring to Rule Them All, maybe a King of Le Mans series with a different set of cars every week?

What do people think?

Ken

Great schedule...some of my favourite tracks. But I think I like Paul's list...tracks that the super regulars don't have memorized and would need to learn...and with a good car setup already. This might shake up the results and make it a bit more exciting. I really like the challenge of trying to improve on these not-so-common tracks.

My wallet loves the initial list.

Also i don't own any GT3 cars yet. Which ones qualify as GT3 and any suggestions are appreciated before I purchase one.

The GT3 cars all have that class in the name, but basically:
McLaren MP4-12C (slow)
Ford GT GT3 (slow)
BMW Z4 GT3 (medium)
Mercedes SLS GT3 (fast)
Audi R8 GT3 (fast)

My opinions are just from what I've heard and see in the GT3 series. Most people are running one of the German cars.

Oulton and Zolder are both in the official series. Would one of those add something?

I'd replace week 5 with Zolder and week 7 with Sebring.

Otherwise great, as it closely matches the official FR series.

I like Paul's list better as well, the other tracks are over used and Paul's list is underused. Let's keep it fun weather it follows a series schedule or not.

I've got 100's (if not 1000's) of laps around each of them, so unless it's a newly release track (i.e. Le Mans), it won't really help to level the playing field. :P

Well, that's disappointing to hear.

Scott: did you get out of the house this summer? Sun tan? Drive a real car anywhere? Have you just been sexting your girlfriend without actually seeing her? Did you replace your eye glasses with a VR headset? Have your family and friends staged an intervention, yet?

I'm okay with either list, except for COTA.

That track is like ice in iRacing.

I like both lists do whatever we decide is the best we can go with.
