Hey guys!

I've been thinking about getting into some sort of motor sport for a little while now, finally decided to do some reading and find out how it works! I read somewhere on one of the websites.. (I read a lot so far) to make an account and say hi! So here I am :D

I have a 2001 Lexus IS300 which is mostly stock at the moment, different rims and tires and its manual swapped (R154). Other than that its factory.

I'm curious about how this all works.. so if someone could steer me in the proper direction that would be wonderful!

Do I need to be a member of the ASCC (or similar) to participate in Auto Slalom? Or do I show up to an event pay some money and have some fun?

And how do the "track days" (is it appropriate to call them track days?) normally work? Is it a couple hours out of a Saturday type of thing? Or should I bring my tent and be prepared to be there for a week? (I exaggerated a little, but you get what I'm sayin')

How big of a turn out is there on the average day?

Thanks in advance! :D

PS I tried using my name (and several different variants) as my user name and the forum told me it was disallowed. I wasn't aware that "Mitch" was an offensive word hahaha

If you want to do Auto Slalom, and I'm guessing you're in HRM area, then you want to join the ASCC club. You need to have a membership with one of the regional clubs (Moncton, Saint John, Halifax, etc.) before you can participate in any of their events. Any Atlantic Region Motorsports affiliated club membership gets you into any of the other clubs events. Of course you have to pay the specific event fee every time.

If you want to do lapping (track day) or time attack, then you have to have passed your lapping and/or time attack license. There is a big High Performance Driving School the long weekend of May every year, and then various clubs take turns hosting lapping days throughout the summer. MMSC does some, ASCC, AFRA... If you want to get into it at this point in the year, you would have to have a look who is hosting the next event and getting in touch with the organizer to see if you can be with an instructor and do your license the day of. I believe this has been done before.

Welcome and hope to see you out at some events! People are very friendly and if you were to just show up at any of the above club slalom events, somebody would be glad to help you out.

If your in town stop out to ASCC's Slalom event this weekend.

Introduce yourself, and get a feel for what the events are like.

Enjoy!

Show up, pay $30 for your ASCC membership and your first event is included in that cost. The only requirement is having a safe car, and if yours is safety inspected that is enough. There are lots of people who can show you the ropes.

As Scott said, show up sat morning at the ASCC event, pay $30 for a membership and you will get your first club event free. Try and be there for 9-9:30. That way you have time to walk the course and learn some of the basic rules and suchforth.

Thanks for all the replies!

I'm going to do my best to make it out tomorrow! Unfortunately I'm working nights this week and I'm scheduled until 7am, I'm working on getting off early so I hope to be there! :D

Unfortunately I was supposed to have a ball joint today but there was a delay in shipping. So I won't be able to participate tomorrow. However I do plan on coming out and seeing what's up!
