Sounds like some promising new recruits there, Kevin.

Another great day at AMP...that place never gets old. We had some people from the superbike event crawling from their place of rest to clean up and leave their temporary homes at AMP.
I got the chance to work corner 11 and then corner 2 and I can tell ya we had few people honing their 'drive fast' skills. I am no good with names but...there was a Black Honda Civic, I remember from the autoslalom at the church, that was just working the track hard. each time he was in the pits he was adjusting this and that to get faster and it showed. Then the fantastic sounding blue BRZ or FRS was putting the boots to the race course in style. This is what those cars should sound like from the factory. I watched people go from a very tentative driver to a very confident lapper in the run of the day, hats off to those who keep going while others 'lay in the sun'.
I witnessed things that I have never seen done...like a three wheeler thru turn eleven...and a full throttle run thru the entire radius of turn two "vetec was in full song the entire way", which led to a very fast run up to turn three.
I sure hope some of these folks are planning to attend the Time Attack National event in September as they sure have the abilities to give everyone a run for the trophies.

Thank you drivers for allowing us to witness those skills.

Kevin "grey hair" the rambling marshal.

Sounds like Ben in the civic and Devon in the FR-S. Both very quick cars and talented drivers.

Are lapping days still a thing when it's raining?

Do we normally get much of a turn out if so?

I would assume it's still a go for Sunday...just haven't heard anything confirming it.
In the rain it's a whole new experience...different speeds and braking points and managing exhilaration issues is a challenge.

Not sure if means acceleration or exhilaration? Either way it is a different beast in the rain.

Well, perhaps my weather forecast wasn't as accurate as we had hoped, but we still had a dry track for most of the day.

Big thanks to Lucas & Rob and all the marshals for making the day possible.

Here's one of my better laps...

Yes, the sun was not out at AMP on Sunday but the dedicated lappers were...hats off to you ladies and gentlemen. No rain until about 3pm so the track was dry and the wind was enough to keep the bugs away. We had two Audi TTRS's at the track in Atlantic Canada(only 250 in Canada ) and the owner of the red one was out to have fun whatever the weather condition. I did see some slight drifting in turn 5 from a few test pilots trying out some new tires and suspension settings. All-in-all a good day.
Hiro came out with his (stock) Evo wagon and 10 year old tires to see if he could get another few laps out of them, he was quick but then the rain started and in he came. Just as we were going to bring everyone in for a discussion of changing track conditions we got to witness a neat spin from an RX7 in turn eleven. Flat spin, no walls but facing backwards rolling down the track then off onto the grass. All was good and after a quick run to the bathroom for a check on the shorts he was back on track.
A few people called it quits in the rain(showers really) but a few decided to test their skills. One of them, named Mark, forgot about the speed change required for the conditions and performed a well choreographed 4 wheel drift thru turn 5 and immediately decided to enter pit lane for a deep breath and to rethink his dedication to this "rain session". After a quick change of tires he decided to call it even and came over to discuss his day. Some people just kept on lapping to test their cars electronics in the wet and get use to how they handle. Last car out was the Red TTRS, they kept swapping places as driver and passenger and kept pushing the traction aids into turn one. After awhile they even called it a day.
Now I did say they were the last lappers of the day but just when we would have called it a session Hiro poke's his head out of the tech building and says 'is it over yet'? to which I say no, it goes until 4pm. With a big smile he disappears and then I hear the Evo spring to life and out he goes, last man standing. Each lap on the track by himself and each time past the start finish line he waves and smiles.
He is in the zone and not thinking about anything else...another great day at the track.

Thanks to those drivers who attended...much appreciated.

Kevin, "old man at the start line" who can't stop talking long enough to eat lunch !!

I just realized that the next lapping day is the very next day after the National Time Attack. Four track days in a row... Oh my poor car.

"four lapping days in a row"...come on you wankers...I remember in the old days we use to get up 1/2 an hour before we went to bed to drive to the track so we could push broom clean the track surface and remove the pieces from the previous days event. Then we would drive the track continuously for the next 8 hours, only stopping for the occasional moose or wrecked car. We would then huddle around the cars at night cause they were still glowing red hot from the days track session and cook up 'gut' dogs and beans by the glow of the rotors.
Someone cry me a river about too many lapping days in a row...get out there !!! :P :P

No one is complaining. Just making an observation.

Having lapping on the Monday following the National really adds value to those who are traveling from away like Hiscott. More track time adds additional value to the trip.

Thanks to AFRA for the excellent help in getting my lapping license this year, I learned a lot and it was a pleasure meeting the club members. I am definitely looking forward to the 2016 season.

Here is a clip of some laps from October 3rd in my '97 Civic Si. I don't have much to compare to, but it looks like my best time was around 1:31 with a top speed of 145km/h.

See ya next year!

Track looked relatively dry. Guess I should have attended after all.

Big thanks to Atlantic Formula Racing Association (AFRA) and the marshals for a great season of track days. Looking forward to next season already!

Scott, the track was a little wet in the morning with standing water in 2 and 6 but dried out as the day went on. I think it went well except for the Formula BMW missile that came down in turn 2...slight braking issue in the wet (found a new route thru turn 2 to turn 6). 8O
Everyone was OK including the car, which returned to the track on the next session.

YES, you should have been there with the rest of the AWD cars that enjoyed the morning wet session. :)
