Supplemental Regulations for July 11th, 2015 ASCC Club Autoslalom event #6
ASCC, Toyo Tires Autoslalom Event#6.

Location: Stoneridge Fellowship, 85 Temple Terrace, Sackville, NS

Entry Fee: $20.00 (for members of an ARMS-affiliate club).

Schedule:

0800: Volunteers are asked to arrive.
0830: Registration and Scrutineering Open.
1030: Registration and Scrutineering Closed.
1035: Drivers meeting.
1040: "Official" course walk.
1100: First car starts.

We will try and have a 45MIN lunch after the first run group ends. If we are behind on time, we may shorten or skip the lunch break.
Insure you bring liquids, food, and extra/appropriate clothing. Lets hope we need sunblock for this event as well.

NEW****** Toyo Tires Canada has sponsored the ASCC series this season.
All competitors running Toyo Tires Bought in Canada, and the Toyo Tire decal are eligible. (ASCC has the decals.)
Highest finishing Driver running Toyo tires in the ASCC autoslalom series will receive, $200 off a set of Toyo R-Comp tires.


Insurance: As required by ARMS, provided by ASN Canada FIA. Waiver to be signed by all persons on-site.

Regulations: This event will be held under the General Competition Rules of ARMS, and the Atlantic Sports Car Club event regulations. All competitors must be present for the Drivers meeting. If you can not make it, contact me prior. This is the 6th event of the 2015 ASCC club Autoslalom season.

Absolutely no speeding or reckless driving around the site will be tolerated. Driving behavior during the event will be discussed at the drivers meeting

Notes:

Run/Work Groups:

All cars must have their competition number and class displayed on both sides of their car for the benefit of the Paddock Marshall and the Timing and Scoring staff.

Work groups will be called by the car number of competitors who are required to work. Everyone will work at least once as assigned by the Organizer. Competitors are reminded to report quickly to their workstations in order to ensure quick turn around. Failure to report for work assignment will result in forfeiture of points and any remaining runs. The work assignment list will be available from the Organizer and the Paddock Marshall.

I want to thank the organizers for another successful event. Also I picked up some items that someone left behind. WWAF, Prestone, hat and gloves and more. I won't make it to the next event but I can make sure that these items do. let me know if you are missing any of these items.

It sounds like mine, I'll have to bring a basket next time. I'm not sure whether I can make the next event, but I'll update Nick closer to the date.

There's quite a few "What we learned" threads on casc forums for autoslalom so here it goes:

1. Ascc has been doing a great job running great event's for a while now and the numbers reflect that. Lowest turnout we had was 42 on day 2 in Digby...in the rain!

2. Tents are a great investment when it's 30 degrees out

3. 30 degrees out and it still takes 4 runs to get heat in v710's

4. I can confirm I hate v710's (refer to number 3)

5. Co-drivers are very helpful; thanks Scott

6. Re71r's aren't invincible

7. Don't take 24 hrs to take note your girlfriends hair color has changed...

8. Grid marshal isn't a fun job

9. Don't tell someone to visualize the course and then don't do it yourself


Thanks guys for putting on another great event, it's awesome to see so many new people and the great numbers we're getting this year, see you all on the 25th!

I can't wait until the next Saturday autoslalom Ben, maybe I can find a co-driver to even things up, lol

I'll play:

1) When you're building a course and it seems too tight, it's probably too tight. 49 times for "that cone" in the first run group.

2) S13 chassis feedback seems better than my M3. The much tighter steering ratio helps. Or maybe I need to get rid of more rubber bushings.

3) V710s really are not that great, new or old. I only ever liked them at Digby and AMP, and now I know why. They just don't come up to temp on a short course by yourself, it wasn't until our 3rd runs the car push like crazy.

4) I have no idea where the front end of a 240sx is...see #1.

5) I can't just hop in someone else's car and be fast, but give me a few runs and I'll get close. Thanks Ben.

6) Polarized sunglasses block out the sweet HUD.

7) Co-driving is fun.

Hahah. I like it

1) other peoples tents are great for getting out of the sun and for setting your helmet under

2) my co-driver is getting too fast and is going to beat me before long.

3) 30 degree weather makes our cones so soft you can't hear them when you hit them (4 cones on run 1!)

4) too many FRS, need more S2000

5) a setup that's neutral at Digby makes for incredible amounts of understeer at the church


It's really cool to see so many new drivers and cars out. There's always a good mix of new/old at every event. It would be cool to do a tally at the end of the year to see how many new people have taken part in an ASCC event and how they heard about it and what they thought. I agree with Ben that having the events run in such a professional manner really makes it attractive to a lot of people. As always, thanks to all the volunteers for another fun event!

What now? I'm getting tired of trying to keep up with you.

I meant the eagle RS. Still new enough that I haven't figured them out yet.

Oh almost forgot this valuable piece of information i learned this weekend

6) get out of the left lane when you see this in your mirror.

If we're going for things we learned this weekend, it was definitely a good one for me!

1. General Gmax is not a good tire choice for anything ever.

2. Good tires are worth their weight in gold! (See #1 and my finish position)

3. Too many Scions! People need to get more creative with their off the lot sports car choice.

4. All streaks of good luck, sadly must come to an end.

5. Despite my reservations, I am very obviously meant to drive FWD cars.

6. If you have something nice, someone will want to borrow it and you simply can't say no.

7. No matter what you might think, there is always somebody better than you!

8. And most importantly..... Joel likes to screw with people driving large cars!

With these larger turnouts, I'd like to see 3 run groups so that...

1) we spend less time standing around working the course (it's tough on us old guys with bad backs)
2) we could eliminate the lunch break as one run group will always be free at any given time (meaning shorter day)

Agreed. if we get 45 people, 3 run groups still gives us 2-3 workers per station. There's a worry that people will run then leave but we can probably keep an eye on that. As long as it isn't too much more work for Pidge/Krista, and everybody else at the trailer.

There was enough time between runs Saturday that I saw people in the run group chasing cones between runs.

That said, it's great to see such a broad group of entrants, and I hope it continues. Everything ran smoothly, and a hot day that could have been miserable was quite pleasant.

Work assignments can be tracked by assigning each driver a station and have them report to the trailer at the start of their shift to get their name checked off. That's what MMSC does at Slemon.

As for the trailer folks, someone could make a lunch run for them, or relief workers could be assigned to their posts. I'm not sure if anyone other than Pidge knows how to operate the timing equipment, but there certainly should be.

I like the idea of a third run group for larger turnout events where we have a full day. Could be broken up into Street, Street Touring and Mod/Prepared classes. We'll just have to be prudent that Street Touring runs in the rain while stock runs in the dry .

A third run group would definitely be more enjoyable to watch if you can walk around, and could even give some of us a break to take some pictures/videos for the FB page. Speaking of the FB, I wanted to pitch something (probably not appropriate in this thread, but whatever). It's pretty minor, but I was thinking that switching the FB 'group' to a 'page', which would make it more appropriate for what it's used for. Currently it's set up to be like a discussion forum, but we already have the ARMS forum for that. And in it's current format, it means that the mods will post under their own name, rather than on behalf of ASCC. The aim of the FB in my mind should be to quickly inform/remind those within the community, and more importantly pull in new people that have never been exposed to motorsports. We recently changed the Bluenose Autosport Club to a 'page' format. Now we have 60+ members in a matter of months vs the ~12 we had before after years, likely because people only need to 'like' rather than request to join. We've also had pretty good turnouts for our most recent rallycross. Plus, any mod can contribute under the BAC name to give it for of an organizational feel. Evan's been doing a great job lately keeping the ASCC page fresh, but I feel like the 'page' format could help get some wider exposure. I could help out with the ASCC page as well, it's not really much effort.

Anyways, just my two cents. I guess they way things are going, we aren't exactly hurting for more competitors!

It's extremely valuable to have multiple people trained to do timing. When I started, the only one that could use the timing gear was Ray and it would be struggle to get an event going without him. The year the Partridges had a wedding the same weekend of Slemon, I knew well in advance and had some people trained to do timing. We treated it as just another working assignment. When Ray competes at club events, we just do shifts.

What I learned:

-People think RE71Rs are invincible - Look at the Prosolos! RS3s still win quite frequently. No doubt they are good, but not so good that no other tire can win.

-3 run groups would be great.
-Everyone but me is surprised that I got beat by a Civic. I told everyone he is fast!
-The Annapolis Valley is taking over autocross.

Great work guys. Course was fun but had one "annoying" corner that was a great challenge though. We're going to need a bigger venue soon enough...
