High Performance Driving School - May 17-18, 2015

**29 of 30 spots have already been filled**

**If you are interested in taking the school and are concerned that it will be full, please make contact with Brian and he will put your name on a waiting list. There are no guaranties this year but history has shown that some people who have already signed up will withdraw from the school and the people on the waiting list get to fill those spots.**

The first ASCC High Performance Driving School of 2015 will be held during the long weekend on Sunday May 17th and Monday 18th, 2015. This session is open to anyone who wants to learn some of the more advanced techniques and track safety to qualify for a Lapping card or Time Attack license for the 2015 season. Remember that you REQUIRE one of these licenses to drive at ARMS AMP events (outside of schools or slalom events)!

The High Performance Driving School will take place starting with a evening classsroom session at 6:30pm Sunday May 17th at 100 Dispensing Way, Lower Sackville followed by an all day track session at Atlantic Motorsport Park on Monday May 18th. Entry fee is $230.00 which includes the Lapping card and/or Time Attack license for students who successfully complete the school. This course consists of a classroom session instructing students on the theory and physics of high performance driving as well as track safety and the following day consists entirely of on-track activities with small groups of students paired to experienced instructors.

The HPDS Students are required to bring the following:

- A safe street vehicle. If your vehicle can pass MVI its probably fine for the on-track sessions. Vehicles will be inspected for suitability (Brakes, Tires, etc) prior to the session. Convertible vehicles are NOT permitted without adequate rollover protection, most factory rollover protection is not enough so please check with the organizers. Please contact the organizers with questions regarding vehicle suitability. Students will be asked to complete a self-inspection checklist provided prior to the course.

- A Snell 2005M or newer 'M' rated helmet is acceptable, provided the car is not equipped with a roll cage or racing slicks. Cars with cages and/or slicks will require a Snell 'SA' rated helmet. Helmets meeting the following FIA standards are also approved.

FIA 8860-2004
Snell 2005 SA / 2010 SA
SFI Foundation 31.1A or 31.2A
British Standards Institution BS 6658-85 type A/FR

If you do not have access to a helmet please contact the organizers as loaner helmets may be arranged with advance notice.

Below are the forums and rules you need to read, understand and fill out for this school:

SoloSport Self Tech Form must be filled out and completed.
http://www.asncanada.com/2013-SoloSport ... p_Form.pdf

Club Membership Application +$30
http://www.armsinc.ca/applications/2011 ... ership.pdf

License Application Form (to be filled out by you and your instructor at the end of the school)

ASN Canada FIA Time Attack Regulations
http://www.asncanada.com/2014-ASN-Solos ... ations.pdf

ASN Canada FIA Lapping Regulations
http://www.asncanada.com/2013-SoloSport ... ations.pdf

Information regarding rollover bars (please inform us if you plan to use a convertible for the school, most convertibles do not meet our safety requirements) http://www.asncanada.com/2013-SoloSport ... llCage.pdf

For the school a fire extinguisher is not required.

Any questions please email hpds (at) ascc.ca

Completion of this High Performance Driving School qualifies participants for an ARMS Lapping and Time Attack license allowing you access to the many lapping and solo competition sessions at Atlantic Motorsport Park throughout the year. The cost of this license is included in your school entry.

Note: Preferential placement will be given to students interested in obtaining their Time Attack qualifications for the purposes of running the 2015 ARMS Time Attack series held at AMP! Students interested only in obtaining the qualifications to attend lapping sessions may be asked to complete an AFRA Lapping School, held at another date.

- Name
- Phone Number
- Email address for contact

We look forward to seeing everyone at the Track!

Hi Dan, no open lapping during the school day except for students. The school takes the whole day and the run group sizes pretty much fill up what we are allowed to have on the track at any given time.

One of my friend's car won't be fixed in time for the school, would there be any way he could get to attend the school without his vehicle? Like borrowing someone elses or renting one? His only method of transportation would be his truck but I don't see him attend the event in his "barely-passes-inspection" Ford Ranger lol

..or is there a possibility of later dates as we only plan on attending at least one regional TA later in either July or August and the CTAC in Sept.

Martin, the best thing to do is to rent a car. Lots of people of done it in the past but where ASCC only hosts the one school a year then it would be hard for us to allow someone to sit through the class session and then track time at a later date.

I checked their website, I don't think they offer Time Attack schools, or atleast they didn't say it on there. Will ask them on their FB page..

And I understand that Brian, I might just tell him to wait until next time CTAC comes to AMP, or atleast next years TA school.

Car rental is a fantastic idea Brian. I would seriously think about that Martin!

MHPDC does conduct certification for members in both Lapping and Time Attack licensing. Instruction is done more one on one vice the larger school format. Pricing and membership requirements and contact info are on the web page.

That's why this is a school date not a Time Attack competition date, I can barely believe someone would dare to go full speed in a HPDS. If they do they must be one reckless driver, or someone whos mistaken the accelerator with the brakes. Which probably already happened somewhere in the world.

Great to see all the spots taken so early, hope you have a good day for it, sounds like there may be a demand for a second school

Back to reality though, I'd only be able to attend in late July. :?

REMINDER

All participants AND Instructors require memberships with one of the ARMS related clubs before the HPDS. If you have your membership cards, please bring them. If you are joining ASCC it would speed things up if you were to renew and pay on line (via paypal) and I will bring your card with me on Sunday night to the classroom session.

Online membership can be accessed here http://www.ascc.ca/?page_id=423

I will also be at the track early on Monday AM for any instructors that require renewals with ASCC.

Looks like it's going to be a perfect day at AMP tomorrow for the HPDS...can't wait to get my first visual of the track for the year and hear the sounds of people enjoying the camaraderie of Motorsports. Look forward to seeing the Race car drivers performing the shakedowns on their cars after the School.
Sounds like an all-around smoking day at the track..."hey wait, did I say smoking...I meant smokin" !!!

8am is when we were told to be ready with gates opening 7'ish. Instructors meeting, track walk and drivers meeting between 8-9:30, and lapping to start around 9:3/10:00am.

FANTASTIC...had a great time at the track today. I would like to say thank you to ASCC, they did a great job hosting the event today. One of the best I have attended as a Marshal.
Good people, good food and great weather... :D

Thank-you Kevin, and to everyone else that helped make the day possible. Without a lot of help from a lot of people this event would never be possible, thank-you!

Fun times. I had good times battling with a 911 turbo in my run group. for the impatient, watch the first 5 or so min, then skip to ~14min.

Thank you for posting that video. In my case my interest in the video is from a Marshal stand point as I was working corner 5 stand. I couldn't help but notice how hard it was to make out the color of the flag I was showing from your onboard video, I know there are issues with video cameras not being able to auto adjust the iris like our eyes do but what I see on the video is unacceptable for flagging purposes. Looks like that corner, stand at that time of day, is hampered by shading and sunlight reflection on the windshield.

Could you comment on if you were able to see, clearly, the flag color in turn five ?

Also I would like to apologise for not showing that Porsche the blue passing flag but in my defence, up until that lap, that Porsche would pull away from you down the back straight.

I found the flags easy to see. Reality is better than video. However, i fear missing a black flag (i missed a few one year when my exhaust hanger fell off).

I did notice that the orange turbo got faster blue flags (immediate) than my black hatchback. Andvantages to being an orange sportscar. :D Thing is, i would catch him in the corners, get slown down, and then with my momentum gone.... Vrooom on the straights. Besides, i think he was faster by days end anyway.

No big deal. It was fun. This is hpde, and i am far from being sore. Marshalls did a great job and they are key to this process and do a great job.

When i did catch him through traffic again, i just made sure to lock on his bumper more. My strategy when i catch someone is to give them space. If i dont get a blue flag/wave-by than i just start to glue myself to their bumper. If i am in you backseat...

That would (should?) have been a "meatball" for a mechanical issue, the black flag is for naughty people. There again after missing a couple of meatballs you are naughty so it would then change to black, at Control's discretion of course.

If there is sufficient interest there will be another school similar to the one held in May with the July 1st lapping day.

If you are interested in taking an AFRA school, please email us at lapping (at) atlanticformularacing.com

All requirements will be the same as here:
viewtopic.php?f=51&t=13704

Tell anyone you may know that if they were thinking about taking the last one and missed out that this is their chance!

More info here:
