I read it, looked at Fastrack, and can't imagine that it took them 4 years to decide that a vehicle doesn't meet a basic rule of eligibility. No indication that they looked at the actual C of G rule.

From Fastrack:
#15707 Fiesta ST roll-over risk
The Ford Fiesta ST meets the Rollover Potential Guidelines in 3.1. The 2011+ non-ST Fiesta models do not meet the
requirements and are to be removed from the HS listing.

3.1 includes a chart that basically states a car must not be taller than its track width. It also include this:

The SEB may use a Static Stability Factor (SSF) for classing new vehicles.
SSF is defined as ½ track width (T) divided by the height of the
vehicles center of gravity above the road (H) and can be calculated by the formula
SSF=T/2H. Vehicles with an SSF of less than 1.30 should not be
permitted to compete in Solo® events due to the higher risk of rollover.

Very odd to me

Apparently the Mazda 2 is still acceptable? :eek13: This bites, because I was seriously considering buying a Fiesta in the next couple months and the ST is still a tiny bit out of my price range.

Well, that's the SCCA. Obviously by the other thread regarding seat belts we don't always follow their lead. But, I'm sure that this will follow suit up here sooner than later. So, stick with the Mercedes?

Or just add the appropriate modifications. Some good sway bars would flatten that out to be less of an issue.

Also, I'm sure there are more vehicles out there that meet those requirements too, however, I'm guessing that the Fiesta was proven recently. I can think of a few incidents in our region in recent years of situations like this occuring. 3 off of the top of my head...

My Civic is for sale if you're looking to compete in HS!

So it never met the rule, they just classed it. Which makes sense? Strangely, you can run a non ST in ST(f). You would need to either lower or widen however. Really, the same would apply to the Mz2 unless it is shorter. I wonder how the math works on the fit? Really I would have expected that the use of gen-you-wine street tires in street class would have made this a non issue.

Who in their right mind would do that? Don't you know that the number in the model is the upper limit of how many years they last? The paint falls off then they explode, it's common knowledge.

Hmm, paint falling off would lighten the car, so there's that. But it's also not expressly allowed in stock class (so not permitted), so I guess you'd have to repair it.

An old 323 is a far superior automobile than their newer stuff. According to my calculations it is 161.5 times better than the 2 hahaha.

You're a funny guy Dave! and if I buy anything else it's going to have a warranty. Your Mr. good guy guarantee isn't going to cut it :P

I guess I'll just do as Brian said and stick with the Benz. Just uneasy because the MVI is due and it's an old German car.

I was hoping Matt or Dave Hull would have gotten riled up by now. Darn.

Dave's got an Mx5. So that's like a bmw M times five. That's a pretty long time. Like 500k miles.

Plus, he cares less and less about it every season it seems, so much so that if in the near future if something breaks on his Neon, I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see him bring his Miata to the next rallycross.

You will need more then a set of sway-bars. lowering it and a set of wheel spacers would help widen the car, to make it wide then it is tall. But in the end, Fiestas are out as we use the SCCA car classing and mod list.

Most of us remember a SmartCar that was made wider then tall to fit the rules, It ended up going way up on 2, on somewhat smooth asphalt, on street tires. Thankfully the driver new what to do, My bet, he was up on 2 before. lol. I would bet the fiesta would be much harder to tip compared to a smart car, but some have seen the end results before, and i have no interest in seeing it. lol or writing it all down.

Sorry, sway bars and common sense. :) Sticky tires exacerbate all sorts of design flaws.

I'd be concerned about a number of the current small car crop. The Fit is tall/narrow, I think the Scion iQ is already banned. Mirage? Micra?

Any car that is taller than it is wide is not allowed to run. We have a tape measure at events to measure cars that are questionable.

If it's in Appendix A (car class list), it's allowed to run. Even if oversquare. ASN rule 4.2.4.
I was thinking the same thing 'wasn't it illegal before?' It was, but there's that exception.

As probably the only one on this board that has actually owned and driven a Reliant as an every day vehicle I would be only too pleased to give you driving tips should you so wish.
I also owned a Bond Bug at one point, but that would be for an advanced class as you could get it to go a whole lot faster than in hind sight would appear prudent.

Well, the Robin is wider than it is tall (surprisingly), so it meets that rule. I'm surprised by that. ASN rule 4.1 b) says that: running on at least four wheels not aligned, which
must always be in contact with the ground;

Hmm, the second part of that would suggest no Minis, stiff bar Civics, and stiff BMW's.

I'm not complaining but it seems funny that it's easier to run a truck than a sport compact!

These things are essentially just 4x4 S10s/blazers (torsion bars and all) and they're classed in the SCCA rule books

I didn't see wheels leave the ground but man do they have some roll 8O

I would love to get my hands on either one. They are pretty cool and have a very large following. I am sure you can get them to turn pretty good, but its more for the cool factor then anything.
