Bolt is probably 6" long and probably a 14mm head, threaded for the last 1" or so.

Kevin retrieved it from the track around turn 5 and gave it to Jenn assuming it was our starter bolt. It was not, as my starter bolt was still firmly attached to my car (I took it off last night) holding the cracked-off mounting flange on to the bell housing.

If this sounds like your missing bolt, let me know and I will try to find it in my tool bin where I threw it in annoyance.

If it does not, or you don't know, you might want to give your car a once over.

Sounds like suspension to me. I will have to check because I know I have bolts matching that description. A picture would go a long way in helping if you have time!

I found a similar thing once near my house. Turned out to be a subframe bolt from a neighbors VW 8O Any older VW's racing lately?

I know what you're thinking here. Lol.
Just checked my car over. I'm proud to say it's not from mine(this time).

Doesn't look to be a VW bolt.

I agree. When he said 6" long my first thought was steering rack to subframe but the thread pattern on this is way too coarse.

Definitely looks to be a starter bolt. The knurling near the end is common for SBCs.

Might be off Aaron's car, he had rear suspension damage at the Aug race, and it looks like one of his control arm bolts.

Pretty sure it was in that area. He was on the stand in 5, and I pulled off into the grass on the downhill past the stand. He retrieved the bolt from the track somewhere between the stand and the car as far as I know.

I know it's not mine, as I found mine right where it should be. It was that darn flange that was the problem:

It was found between turn 3 and 4.

Did you find the bolt that came from the other hole (other starter bolt)? I'm not overly familiar with your set up...but kind of looks like the other 2 in the photo (and there's a blank hole).

Yes. That bolt was still nicely safety wired into the starter. (It's much shorter) It looks like that valiantly tried to hold the starter on the car after the flange broke, before it finally gave out and came out pulling the treads out of the bell housing with it.
I helicoiled the bell housing shortly after I took the picture.

Very possibly. If he needs a spare, or wants a souvenir, I can try to remember to bring it this weekend.

David...I saw something hanging down under the car as you came out of turn 11 but couldn't verify it until you passed me at the start finish, that's when I called it in.
Did you hear anything scraping in turn 11 ??

Hey Kevin. Good question. Right about turn 10/1 I started to think I heard/felt something, but, it takes a second to figure out given the general noise level of the car. But, it wasn't a scraping, it was more of a knocking, like something might be loose.
I saw you crouch down which confirmed for me that whatever was loose was under the car. But, by the time I heard/felt anything, I was already past pit-in, so was committed for another lap. I just tried to slow down and limp it back. Made it halfway-ish.
