Looking at a few of the past CAC courses and venues I think we have an opportunity to host a very challenging and unique event at Atlantic Motorsport Park. AMP is a very challenging road course with a 100 feet of elevation change and I believe that would make for a great CAC championship slalom course. The course walk would be like Loring in length but would require a new set of skills for line-of-sight cone set up and blind entries into some of the course highlights.
There is a good paddock area and the pit straight is great for staging...there are inspection buildings and registration buildings. There is WiFi and live race results as well as transponder timing.
Washroom and shower facilities and onsite camping!!!

What do you think ???

This is something I would be more than willing to devote a lot of my time to helping with. I 100% agree.

This is a good idea. I especially like the thought of the transponder system. And the fact that multiple cars can work easily on the track.

Time attack nationals yes, but it would never be a proper venue for autoslalom.

Unfortunately, I agree with Mike. The track is just too restrictive for that level of event.

The last time I went to a national event in Quebec it was on a race track just like AMP and worked out just fine, one of the best events I ever went to. Carl know how to host and set up courses!

I tend to agree with Mike and Allan. AMP is my favorite event of the year, it's how I got into slalom. But if it happens I will be behind it 100%

Also its pretty far from hotels/food. Where would people stay? Could they leave their vehicles at the track? We would need to hire security for the night.

Where are you going to stage 80-100 cars without people parking in gravel? At the regional event you have to get their early to get a paved spot.

I imagine we would have a hard time staying 8m from the wall or other immovable objects there as well. Maybe if the stop box was on the pit entrance road.

The best choice for an NS national (of our current venues) would be Digby. Not ideal either though.

Scott M., only the cars in the current run group need to be on the pavement, the rest CAN park on gravel or grass it's not going to kill anyone. Once again, in Quebec for a CAC event our paddock spot was in a grassy area but, we had to drive over gravel to get to the staging area, no big deal.

Evan W., you don't stay 8m away from the curbs at the church in sackville or magic mountain. I think that rule has to do with turning anyway, that is why we stopped putting slaloms on the front straight at AMP for years now and just made it a straight shoot into the stopbox.

I know we get close to solid objects in Sackville, and at SSW, but I thought that with a national level event, that kind of thing wouldn't really go over well. It has caused issues for us already.

Parts of the entrance to the Slemon grid (the paddock/parking lot) were not any better than a gravel lot. Broken and sharp concrete is pretty bad too. It was fine there. If anyone reaaallly wants a paved spot (assuming grid on pit lane) reserve the paddock side of the wall, and charge a fee

I would love to have it at AMP, but the risk there is significantly higher than a normal lot/airport (but probably less than SSW).

I support this. AMP regional in 2011 (the only one there that I made it to) was the most fun event I have done to date. Coming down from 1 into 2, off camber, throwing the car from the outside to the inside and trying to get it slowed at the bottom of the hill at the same time was an absolute blast!

The consequences of an error while driving a slalom at AMP can be a bit drastic. I suspect this is why we only do it once a year. I do know that it is why some regional competitors choose not to compete in the event despite it being a regional event.

Risk is made up of likelyhood and consequence. Both of those factors are higher when we run slalom at AMP. Then add the possibility of running in the rain, and they both go up again.

On some tracks I think a National would work fine, I don't think AMP is one of them.
