CMC LORING 2014 Autocross date is Aug 9/10. Please avoid scheduling against it and I warmly encourage all of your club members to come to giant runways of Loring for our Mega Autocross. You've seen the videos, be a part of it next year.

We have scheduled our event 1 week after the Canadian Championship in hopes of attracting competitors from the Championship to our event.

Bump

I have negotiated a group rate at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center in Caribou Maine for the days surrounding our Loring Mega Autocross (August 9/10). You must call 207 498-3733 and ask for the Cumberland Motor Club rate ($98 US/night/room) to secure a reservation. Make your reservations and vacation plans accordingly. The Loring Event is 3 months from now. You may also camp on site (for free, but there is no running water)

We will be going back to a higher speed (less or more open elements but still technically challenging) this year. Talk to your friends that have gone in past years, this venue is like no other.

Who should show up at the Cumberland Motor Club autocross in Brunswick Maine yesterday, but Ray Bastille. Great to see Ray and talk to him for a bit.

The former Brunswick Naval Air Station is another decommissioned air base that we have gained access too. Not anywhere as big as Loring, but 1.2 million sq feet of pristine concrete. We run there 4 more times.

I will make another post on our sites about the Canadian Nationals. Good luck with your event, and I hope we see a good turnout out for Loring from our friends in Canada.

Haven't registered yet, but I should be at Loring. Still trying to sort out issues with the EVO.

Cool Ming. One of our club members has an EVO that he just finished a major upgrade on. That thing is a beast. I am pretty sure he will be coming to Loring too.

We have added a free test and tune day to our Loring schedule this year. Friday August 8 will feature morning element work, and in the afternoon we will set up a small (30 second) A/X course. Saturday and Sunday will be the primary event days. We will be using the same areas of the runway complex. The course is long, fast, and challenging.

We welcome all of your club member. If you pre-register the price is $35 US per day (test and tune is free)

CMC's Loring event is next weekend. It starts with a free test and tune on Friday, and finishes with Autocross's Saturday and Sunday. We hope to see many of you there. The cost each day (for the autocross) is $35 US. You can camp for free on the tarmac, or we have a group rate at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center (mention the Cumberland Motor Club).

We have already have 89 signed up for Saturday, and 85 on Sunday. Making this year our best year yet.

How many people from "Canada" showed up at the last event Chris ??? This sure looks like a whole other level of competition from what we find in the Atlantic Provinces...would make for a good change of venues for most people and a whole bunch of new people to chat (drink) with !

...just think of the different cars to photograph and set ups to discuss, not to mention if there is a single female available you maybe able to get a dual citizenship !!! 8)

Kevin, the numbers have varied over the years. A good average would be about 8. I see 3 or 4 folks already registered for this year and I have heard from 2 or 3 others that are strongly considering it.

There are some very fast and well driven Porches coming this year. So factor in the hot shoes that come year after year and you will find quite a challenge. Slemon is big, but Loring is gigantic. You can find videos the show the enormity of the part we use. Here is one I like

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ik8SfbaDW9Y

And the shifter karts are outrageous.

You can expect a FAST and flowing course. Different kind of elements than what I see in videos of the courses in the Altantic region

Chris

Like I often say, Loring is different from any other A/X you have been too. From the length of the course, the spacing of the elements, to the speed it is all unique. It is quite a challenge, but one that many of you have taken and mastered.

Ha, I just saw myself marshalling on the left at the bottom of the "things that go boom" removal pad ramp (Never could quite figure out what difference it would make creating a special area in case of an accident when dealing with Nu...)

BTW when you get there you feel you have just stumbled on Ken Block's rallycross set. Just too cool!

:orglaugh: Love to! But I'm not in exactly the best location for a last minute trip to Loring:

Good luck this weekend! I've added this event to my bucket list.

Well that is too bad. The course is in place and it looks epic. Test and Tune today, with completion on Saturday and Sunday. Late afternoon shower a possibility today, but the weekend weather looks AWESOME. Pre-reg is close, but you can still register on-site either 4-6 this afternoon, or 7-8 each event morning.

Going great. Weather was mostly cloudy all day which kept temps down (good). 100+ competitors, 6 runs on a 90 second 1.5 mile course (yes it was fast). This years theme was high speed sweepers and we certainly had some. A handful of Canadian participants today. Perhaps they will give their take.

More of the same planned for tomorrow (more nice weather)

Chris

Thank you Shawn for that post.

WOW...looks like it would be hard to set up for still pictures, so much space between direction changes.

Loring 2014 is in the books. 105 registrants Saturday, and 104 Sunday. I will have the 2015 date within the next 2 weeks and will post it on the forum.

...I got an idea Brian...just tell Michelin, about a month before the event, that their tires suck !!!! 8O . That should free up some time for you to attend the event! :P :orglaugh:

Better yet, get them to send you and some tires to see how they stack up against BFGs, Dunlops, and Hankooks. Michelin is a performance brand, but as far as I know none or very few cars at the event were wearing them.

I just got back this morning, results will be out in a couple of days. I will post a link.
