High Performance Driving School - May 18-19, 2014

**30 of 30 spots have already been filled**

**If you are interested in taking the school and are concerned that it will be full, please make contact with Brian and he will put your name on a waiting list. There are no guaranties this year but history has shown that some people who have already signed up will withdraw from the school and the people on the waiting list get to fill those spots.**

The first ASCC High Performance Driving School of 2014 will be held during the long weekend on Sunday May 18th and Monday 19th, 2014. This session is open to anyone who wants to learn some of the more advanced techniques and track safety to qualify for a Lapping card or Time Attack license for the 2014 season. Remember that you REQUIRE one of these licenses to drive at ARMS AMP events (outside of schools or slalom events)!

The High Performance Driving School will take place starting with a evening classsroom session at 6:30pm Sunday May 18th at 100 Dispensing Way, Lower Sackville followed by an all day track session at Atlantic Motorsport Park on Monday May 19th. Entry fee is $230.00 which includes the Lapping card and/or Time Attack license for students who successfully complete the school. This course consists of a classroom session instructing students on the theory and physics of high performance driving as well as track safety and the following day consists entirely of on-track activities with small groups of students paired to experienced instructors.

The HPDS Students are required to bring the following:

- A safe street vehicle. If your vehicle can pass MVI its probably fine for the on-track sessions. Vehicles will be inspected for suitability (Brakes, Tires, etc) prior to the session. Convertible vehicles are NOT permitted without adequate rollover protection, most factory rollover protection is not enough so please check with the organizers. Please contact the organizers with questions regarding vehicle suitability. Students will be asked to complete a self-inspection checklist provided prior to the course.

- A Snell 2005M or newer 'M' rated helmet is acceptable, provided the car is not equipped with a roll cage or racing slicks. Cars with cages and/or slicks will require a Snell 'SA' rated helmet. Helmets meeting the following FIA standards are also approved.

FIA 8860-2004
Snell 2000 SA / 2005 SA / 2010 SA
SFI Foundation 31.1A or 31.2A
British Standards Institution BS 6658-85 type A/FR

If you do not have access to a helmet please contact the organizers as loaner helmets may be arranged with advance notice.

Below are the forums and rules you need to read, understand and fill out for this school:

For the school a fire extinguisher is not required.

Any questions please email hpds (at) ascc.ca

Completion of this High Performance Driving School qualifies participants for an ARMS Lapping and Time Attack license allowing you access to the many lapping and solo competition sessions at Atlantic Motorsport Park throughout the year. The cost of this license is included in your school entry.

Note: Preferential placement will be given to students interested in obtaining their Time Attack qualifications for the purposes of running the 2014 ARMS Time Attack series held at AMP! Brian, I sent you a few emails at the hpds@ascc.ca address with some questions, and haven't heard back yet. If you could get back to me when you get the chance that would be great.

REMINDER:

All participants (including Instructors) must be a member of one of the clubs associated with ARMS. If you have renewed for this year, please remember to bring your cards with you. There is still time to renew memberships before the event and it would make things go faster if everyone was able to do this!

Goes without saying, I am looking to use my Contour for this track school. But considering it was in an accident last summer, I am wondering what rules apply to a car in that kind of condition.
I have seen some pretty bad looking cars on the track before, so this shouldn't rank among the worst.
Mechanically the car is fine, but with some zipties holding things tight, I wonder if any of the instructors are headed out to AMP sometime this week to take a 3 minute look and give me a yay or nay on the condition, or if I need to last minute some repairs to it.
The car is located on route, 10 minutes before the track.

Snell 2000M helmets should still be allowed this year, correct?
They are allowed according to Section 1.0 of Time Attack and section 16 of Lapping regulations.

What is the schedule for Sunday and Monday looking like? Ie: End time Sunday night, start and end times Monday. Will there be food available at the track, or should I bring lunch?

I'm registered for the school Sunday/Monday and thought I would be all ready to go with my 09 STi. Today I installed new brake pads and flushed the brake fluid.

Unfortunately a few hours ago I destroyed a tire and bent a rim on a gravel road.

Does anyone have a set of 17/18" tires/rims they would lend/sell? Bolt pattern is 5x114.3

If I can't find another set I have my winters on rims that could be expended, but that would definely not be ideal. My other option could be to bring my old datsun, but its not what I would call track ready right now.

If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. Bad timing on this for sure.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help.
