Actually we call for a tow and wait for what seems an eternity (not nearly as fast as Mr McDonell) then wait agian for some invisible elves to raise and lower the car and bang body panels back in place for what has to be real time as well :x

Oh, and if you forget to tell your crew (invisible elves) not to put tires on, add fuel, or rip off a tearoff your there even longer

Stacy
Edited to fix spellcheck that has hamburgers on its mind... was Macdonald, now McDonnell

Putting someone like that in a real car would be a worry for sure, because the sim racer might not have the same level of respect for life and/or equipment as a real world guy.

But if sh!t happens, all he has to do is hit the reset button.

That's one thing I'll give iRacing is that they do strive for proper realism in driver behavior. There's no putting it back on the driving line if you go too far off the track. You wreck it, you're done. You park it in the gravel, you're waiting out the race or to be extracted. You drive like a dillhole on the track you're not allowed to race with anyone else or with the remedial kids until you learn to race clean. Its actually incredibly frustrating when you're starting out when you suck at getting a feel for them because your rating goes down every time you drop a wheel, really just as it would on a real track.

I was doing some thinking today, crunching some numbers, tires costs, upgrade my PC, fuel costs, getting an iracing subscription, towing car to track, moving back into my Mom's basement. Still going for a chance to go to the Mazda Shootout, hmmmmmmm, MOM, can I move into your basement? I'll take you to California with me! :orglaugh:

Kidding, but I am stoked for the 2014 race season @ AMP! :D

All of you guys don't need iracing to get to the shootout. You possess the actual real racing skills required to make it happen. In fact this route is MUCH easier than trying to beat 100,000 others in the iracing game. You will need a Miata though...any new takers?

The current iRacing Mazda Cup series has about 500 regular competitors worldwide. Since this shootout deal is only open to competitors within North America, you could probably cut the number in half.... say 250 competitors.

Although the prize for this new iRacing MX-5 Cup series may attract new competitors, I think you’ll still only have a few hundred eligible competitors who see it through to the end.

That being said, there are a lot of VERY talented competitors on iRacing, and the competition for this series is going to be fierce. No one will be able to pick up an iRacing subscription and start running competitively in this series without putting in a ton of work beforehand.
