AFRA Track Days & Schools

* June 9th
* July 1st
* August 5th
* September 2nd

Cost for the school $140 (includes lapping fees)
Cost for regular lapping $60 online ($80 at the gate)

Throughout the year the Atlantic Formula Racing Association (AFRA) will put on Track Days & Schools (aka Lapping Days & Schools) at Atlantic Motorsport Park. These sessions allow anyone to lap the track in a safe, controlled environment cheaply and without the stress of competition! In order to participate in these sessions drivers are required to have completed an ARMS approved school. To make this process easier AFRA will be providing several 'Track Days & Schools' throughout the year. These sessions will teach you the basics of track safety and driver control to provide you with the tools required to drive at AMP during these sessions!

It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that if you have no previous motorsport experience to participate in 1-6 AutoSlalom events before taking any Track School or High Performance Driving School! AutoSlalom is an entry level motorsport event that provides a stepping stone for drivers looking to move into other more competitive and possibly expensive forms of motorsport including Lapping, Track Days, Time Attacks and Road Racing. A typical AutoSlalom event costs aprox $20 per day.
AutoSlalom is where you learn to drive your car, a Track School is where you learn how to drive the track.

The Track Day Schools will be by pre-registration only and will be limited to 4-6 students per school, so please register soon to ensure your spot. Entry fee is $140.00 which includes the lapping card license for students who successfully complete the school.

The schools will consist of 2-3hrs of classroom time followed by a track walk. The afternoon will be spent with the instructors one on one in the car on the track. Students will also be required to man a marshal station for one lapping session with a marshal or instructor later in the afternoon.

Completion of a Lapping School qualifies participants for an ARMS Lapping License allowing you access to the many lapping sessions (aka Lapping Days / Track Days) at Atlantic Motorsport Park throughout the year. The cost of this license is included in your school entry. A Lapping License does not qualify you for SoloSprints or Racing events.

There will be lapping on these days. The lapping sessions will be $60 online ($80 at the gate) and will alternate between the students and novice/experienced lappers. Registration for lapping is from 8:30 - 9:30.

Pre-Registration & payments for LAPPING can be done via this link: http://www.atlanticformularacing.com/track_days.html

Those willing to assist as marshals for the school will get discounts for these Track Days.

We are only accepting 4-6 students max. The students will not be "mixed in" with the regular lappers until the instructor signs off on them.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To register for the SCHOOLS please submit the form on the link below:
http://www.atlanticformularacing.com/track_schools.html

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The June 9th is a last minute addition.
I would trust this thread first, the AFRA website second and all other sources third.
However right now that ARMS Google Calendar and the ARMS SoloSport Schedule have been updated to reflect the June 9th date.

IMHO there are too many calendars floating around out there.

Perfect Mike/Graham.

Right now we have 1 student and 3 lappers.
I would like to have 6 pre-registered students and/or 12 lappers to ensure this day happens, so spread the word.

Guess I should subscribe to this thread, would have been easy to miss this! Wonder if there shouldn't be a mailing list for this sort of thing as suspect a lot won't know until it's too late.

But yay, another lapping day! Now if can get the car ready in time...

Edit: Looks like I'm going to miss this one. :(

I know this is off topic, but I just had to say something. Wow Dave, seeing that avatar almost gave me a Homer seizure man. Now I'm off to " the noise " and I won't invade this thread anymore.

Cheers.

Hey guys,

Jay & I are unable to make it this weekend.
If anyone could be at the track at 8am on Sunday to help Bill with setup/registration it would be greatly appreciated.

Right now he's a 1 man crew and that really sucks.

I'll aim for as close to 8 as I can. Likely 830.

Thank you everyone for your comments regarding the conflict between a competition and non-competition event in this thread.
In an attempt to keep this thread on topic I have removed said comments.

Looks like decent weather for both events.
I hope everyone has fun doing whatever event they chose.

Gents

Minor note, but the regs linked above are not the most current edition of the rule book. I recommend you use the documents portion of the ARMS site to review the 2012 regs from ASN.

http://www.armsinc.ca/solosport/documents/

I have PM'd Jason Smith, our Solosport Director and page author about the variation. I'm sure he will update it soon.

Nice video Brian! I need to get an app. like that...

I have to apologize to everyone in my session (all of whom lost some track time due to my lawn mowing adventure off of 1).

Picked up some pointers at the track on various things. Met a lot of new friendly faces too.

Special thanks to Susan Boddie for riding shotgun with me as an instructor and then for not whipping me too badly after I made an ass of myself.

Overall... great day!

What app is that, and for what phone OS? I'd really love to have something basic to track speed/rpm through my ELM327 module. And is that synced with a gopro?

The App i used is called alap recorder.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... erhd&hl=en
It records the data and video from the phone GPS and bluetooth ODB2 reader.

I used RaceRender2 to compile the video. i only have the limited free version, but i may buy the full version later.
http://racerender.com/Products/index.html
It's pretty cool software, you can pick what gauges you want to show and what they look like. you can design your own gauges to match your car.
You can replace the video from the phone with any other video, you can even do picture in picture with a rear view or driver camera.

Awesome, thanks. I'll give it a shot at the next slalom or lapping day, whichever comes first.
