Does anyone else think it's weird that it's legal to cut your stock fender and have a bodyman add a flare of any size, but it's not legal to buy a replacement fender that already incorporates the same flare? :?
Not sure why they would feel that such a distinction is necessary
Buying a mass-produced flared fender would be so much more cost-effective :P

From Street Prepared Definitions:
Quote:
15.2 BODYWORK
Vehicles may only exceed the allowances of Section 13.2 as specified
herein.
A. Fenders and bumpers may be modified for tire clearance. This includes the portion of a hood which serves as a fender/wheel well,
where applicable. This does not permit modifications to the chassis
or bodywork inboard of the vertical plane of the hub/wheel mounting
face (at rest, with front wheels straight ahead). Flares may be added
although tires may extend beyond the bodywork. Replacement of
complete hood, flared fenders, or quarter panels is prohibited.
Plastic and rubber wheel well splash shields may be modified for tire
clearance and for installation of fender flares as allowed herein.

Maybe to prevent people from using full fenders made of light weight components (Fiberglass, Carbon fiber)?

You're probably right, that makes sense
I wouldn't have thought that 10-20lbs would make a significant difference, but I suppose it all adds up

That kind of weight loss adds up on a really front-heavy vehicle like mine. I know a few guys who've molded their own carbon fiber radiator supports just to cut 20 lbs off the front end! There are actually off-the-shelf one-piece fiberglass front clips, doors, and beds available for my truck that would cut hundreds of pounds.

I don't think I'd want to lighten up the back of that truck any more :orglaugh:
It would be interesting to see how 300lbs of sand on the back bumper would change (or not change) your times :P
