Are you trying to suggest that the skills & talent needed to succeed in racing video games are the same as needed real life racing?

Obviously BS, the dude they are talking about has ability, his video game playing has no affect on this.

Basically last year one of the GT Academy winners (Jann Mardenborough) almost won the British GT Pro-Am class.
It's a class where Pro drivers are paired with Amateurs (non-professional) "gentleman drivers".
However the GT Academy winner was turning lap times on par with the Pro drivers.

For that reason GT Academy winners will not be allowed to be the "Amateur" part of the Pro-Am class.
Even though the majority of their "racing experience" is GT5.

Why must we suspend belief that a "gentleman driver" cannot be as fast as a pro? There are plenty of gentlemen drivers at the highest ranks of sportscar racing that are every bit as fast as the pro they share the car with as well as opponents. I find it hard to believe that in a regional type GT championship, where I only recognize 3 names with big time sports car experience that a "gentleman" couldn't contend against the others. Most of the gentlemen drivers I come across are highly motivated and highly successful in their chosen field. Those type of personalities generally do pretty good when they put their mind to anything.

Maybe their definition of "gemtlemen" needs to be adjusted. The most common one I know is a guy who pays for his seat and makes his living not as a race car driver, of which there are very few actual paid drivers around.

Its a big massive publicity stunt by Nissan and Sony.
GT5 is not even a proper sim.
The average GT5 guy can't even come to grips with iracing, never mind a real race car.

Steve is right, there are lots of decent non-pros out there.
I am willing to bet the field at the SCCA runoffs, an "amature" event, has more combined talent than most pro races across NA.

While I do agree that GT Academy is a publicity stunt by Sony and Nissan, the top graduates have shown professional level car control skills in the real world.

However I don't agree that GT5 is a not a proper sim. I think it's just an easier sim to get into.

Considering that GT5 has sold 10 million copies worldwide I would say that your average GT5 driver (probably a 12yr old) can't even drive legally on the road, let alone race a real car.
That said, some graduates from the GT Academy (who never raced a real car prior) have successfully moved into legitimate racing careers, and in my opinion that validates GT5 as a proper simulator. The same can be said for iRacing. I think it's the upper echelon of drivers in both simulators that are really able to translate what they learn in the sim, to real road racing applications.

I think those people that do move into real race cars from a sim are going to be good anyway. Some people "have it".
Pretty sure the dudes are not just hopping direct from their computers into race cars and winning races, there is lots of "selection" and training to make everyone look good, before hand.
Its advertising, nobody is going to look like an idiot...

I completely disagree GT5 is a sim, maybe its more so when compared to older versions of GT, but when you compare it to iracing, well, you just can't.
