Depends, who you believe. I have been watching the weather on the internet, and it says light snow, 1-3 cm for shubie. Even so, 6 inches of snow is just enough to make it fun.
I hope we don't cancel, I just finished changing over the tires.

Great day, but I'm getting tired of DNFs.

For those who emailed me, I'm doing fine. Five hours in the
hospital and they sent me home patched up with crazy glue
to hold my head together. If they had only had crazy glue
for Humpty Dumpty. Thanks to those who helped me out
with the first aid.

As always, I leave all RallyCrosses having learned something.
This time, I found out that not only should my tires have studs,
but so should my shoes....

Hopefully, I'll see everyone at the NavEx rally next weekend.
If not, see you at the next ralllycross.

Jim

It's going to be a while before I get the photos posted. Looks like a busy week!

I don't think this is going to be a great bunch of photos anyway. I had at least two significant difficulties. The first was that my breath was fogging up the viewfinder pretty badly. Eventually I learned to exhale through the side of my mouth! Often I was just pointing the camera in the general direction of a car. Second, with so much snow in the air, the camera's autofocus system would often decide to focus on a snowflake instead of the car. And with the viewfinder situation, I often couldn't tell whether the camera had focused properly or not. Here's an example from Tara's first run:

Image

Of course, through the viewfinder I couldn't even see the snowflakes!

It will probably be Thursday or Friday before I get the rest of the pictures up.

Glad to hear you are OK, Jim!

Thanks to everyone for a great event. Both Corey and I had so much fun we ended up doing four laps instead of three. Getting our moneys worth!

I had some power steering issues at the end of my last run. Turned out to be a pinhole in the low pressure line where it runs under the Impreza oil pan just above the jacking point. Luckily the folks at Shane's Service Center (XTR Gas Station) in Shubie were willing to rent me and Corey a bay, and we were back on the road fully repaired an hour later. Good folks I must say for it being Sunday night.

Thanks as well to Ian and Gord for the use of the spare parts bin for the temp patch that got me to Shubie and kept me from running the system completely dry.

For those with an older Impreza (mines an 02) who want to look out for the same failure, it was in the return line where Subaru runs a rubber line from two flared fittings under the oil pan. The steel lines are plastic coated, and the plastic stops an inch or so back from the flare. That is were the line rusted. There is a mount that holds the two lines (high and low) in place, and it was underneath that where the line failed. Not a big hole at all, but enough that after 8 runs on the course with two drives we had shaken it loose.

Did I mention that leaving Shubie at 6pm to drive to Kentville with a stop in downtown Halifax meant for some mean driving conditions? Long day...

Awesome that they let you use their shop. I saw you headed that way but figured you were just going to buy a few gallons of ATF, a funnel and 8' of hose. :)

Also glad my rally bin is still packed for Audi contingencies. :)
