It's the first night of a new series, chances are we aren't going to be running on schedule.

Qualifying went well for me, I think I was only 1 or 2 tenths off Varga's pole setting lap.
I actually had a lap were I was 3/10ths up heading into the final sector but I spun before the front straight.

Scott had "mechanical difficulties" on the starting grid. 5 laps I was in the lead with cheechoo hot on my heels when the red flag was declared. The restart went smooth (from my end). However I couldn't shake cheechoo. He was drafting me on the front straight and we were trading positions. Going into turn 1 I thought he was going to move back infront of me to take the line, but he didn't move as far over and I was expecting and we made contact. My engine was blown so I had to limp back around to the pits.

A few laps after the restart I was passing Brian(?) when Joel spun out in front of us, I tried to take the inside line to avoid Joel, but it didn't work out, another blown engine, another unplanned pitstop.

I managed over the course of the race to work my way up to 5th or 6th place. I was drafting/lapping Taylor down the front straight, I got a good run and decided to take the inside line into 1. I thought he saw me but I guess late braking on both our parts caused another blown engine for myself.

With only 5 laps left I was resigned to 8th place and 3pts. :(

Depends how my evening goes.

We've got tonight, Sunday and next Wednesday to practice for Daytona.

However we may do an exhibition race on Sunday.

I just got a PS3 in November and GT5 in December, so I'm pretty much a noob - not that great at the game and have no idea how the online stuff works. Anyody willing to coach me through the process? And are there any spots available for another car in the series?

tia,

Calum

Callum, to get in to playing in our series, you need to friend Jason Smith (MerlinRPM) All our races take place in his lounge. Look at the list at the top of the page and see if there are any cars not yet taken. There is room for 16 per race, and I don't think we've had that many in one night yet.

Didn't realize the SuperBowl was this weekend. (Show you how much I'm into sports)
How many people are going to be watching that instead of racing?

Sometimes I forget there are sports other than racing and hockey. Only thing good about the Superbowl is the trainwreck of a halftime show

I won't be there tonight, I'm sick. To hard to concentrate for that long. I still won't watch the superbowl.

Yeah, couldn't make it last night, bit of a family emergency, but everything seems to be alright now. Kinda sucks that I've missed both races in the series that I was looking forward to the most though!! I'll get back on this bandwagon soon enough.

At the start of Daytona I was expecting a massive pile up into turn 1, therefore I purposely made sure to qualify poorly and be near the back of the pack.

What I wasn't expecting was the 2 or 3 pile ups BEFORE turn 1 (IE right on the front straight).
I navigated my way around those but was already 10 seconds behind after the first sector.

I think Trevor dropped about 25 laps into the race, I had already pitted once for tires and was in 2nd place.
When Trevor came back in the room a red flag was declared and we restarted the race. This worked out extremely well for Steve, who had not pitted yet. He made the right call on staying out on his worn tires to avoid being a lap down.

During the restart we decided that any cars that were most then +1 lap down would be brought up to 1 lap down.
The restart went well for me. Cheechoo and I were trading 1st place lap after lap until an incident at turn one forced us both to pit for repairs.

For the next several laps it was just about making up time, stretching my tire life out and avoiding lapped cars. One issue I had while passing a lapped car is they would often overtake me on the long straights and sometimes unlap themselves into the braking zone of 1 or the bus stop. I believe they are technically allowed to do so, but it's very cheeky and can lead to accidents.

The end of the race was great, Alek and I were on dead tires (and he was very low on fuel) just trying to eek out the final laps. In the end after a near 3hr enduro we were separated by only 3 seconds. Cheechoo wasn't far behind, also on the lead lap.

Over all good close racing.

For the next race at Nürburgring GP/F the following people have success ballast to add to their cars:

cheechoo 80kg
AMoncilo 80kg
vincentq4 60kg 40kg
MerlinRPM 40kg
