This was posted on the Regulars forum but figured a few around here might fit right in:

Quote:
Scuderia McEwen International and Team CAT are excited to announce they are branching out into real live racing. The
new partnership will race under the name Trunk Monkey Racing and our first event will be the ChumpCar double 7.5hrs of
the Glen this April: http://www.chumpcar.com/ We’ll be piloting a ’96 Acura Integra with pit support from Team
SOS’s Bryan Brown.

As a build up to Watkins Glen I’ll be hosting a 2 hour race at Iracing’s version of the Glen (full boot w/chicane
layout) on New Years day. 2 hours was chosen as about the outside limit of a real life Chump drivers stint.

Format

50 minutes optional open practice (starting at 1PM Eastern)
10 minute optional qualifying (approx 1:50)
Rolling start on 120 race (approx 2PM)
Local yellows only
Unlimited repairs

Cars

MX5 (the LHD one)
Pontiac Solstice
Jetta TDI (w/ballast to bring lap times in line with the other cars)

ChumpCar drivers will choose the car that most closely resembles your Chump crapcan and paint it accordingly, Chump
teammates should adopt the same car & colours. Other entrants can drive what they like.

Now here’s the Whackadoodle part: Chump entrants are encouraged to post photos of themselves in full race gear at
their Iracing rig, time stamped between 2-4PM on race day.

Now here's where you come in: Gentlemen racers of all speed ranges welcome. There will be some non-Chumps from my
regular Iracing league invited as grid fillers

Password: crapcan

PS Instead of adding ballast to the Jetta will start it with a 2 lap penalty.

I can't wait. I haven't driven the Jetta in a dog's age.

Great Ryan. You going to wear your driving gear? :) Figure I'll at least wear the helmet.

The thread on the chumpcar forum where the post race pics should be posted is:

Sadly, I'm only a Time Attacker/Rallycrosser, so the only race equipment I have is my helmet!

I may have to finally give in and buy the Jetta just so I can participate.

why? you could drive the Miata or the Slowstice. That's an official series pairing so you shouldn't have to buy the Jetta. Unless you want to feel diesel power!!

That's what we thought too but we fired up a practice server today with the MX5 cup, Slostice, and Jetta (same as the Grand Am series) and people without the Jetta couldn't join without buying it (even ones that have run in the Grand Am series so would have the Jetta data downloaded). The organizers are trying to decide what to do, hopefully it will be clearer with a hangover in the morning.

Congrats to Brian W for taking the win in an MX5. There were a few Jettas there but didn't see Ryan in any. 8O Scott was there as well but spent most of the time scattering Mazda parts around the track.

Good fun. Will let you know if we do another one (expect we'll want a warmup before the real race in April).

That was a lot of fun. Believe it or not the two hours went by pretty fast. I thought at first the Jetta's had an advantage. So I did a few laps to get a feel for it but decided I would never keep it on the track for two hours. The Mazda is very easy to drive so I was counting on the Jetta's having problems for a good finish. The Mazda would only do about 50 laps on a full tank and it looked like the race would go 53-54 laps so a fuel stop would be required. I thought the fuel stop and the way Ken and a couple of the other VW drivers were clicking off clean steady laps about 2 seconds faster than me would kill my chances for a win. As well the VW would go the distance on fuel. But as it turned out, the race committee limited the fuel in the VW as well a two lap penalty. So they had to make a stop as well. I think one lap penalty or no fuel stop for the VW would have made it a little closer.
I never got a qualifying lap in, do to off's and traffic. So I started 11th in a 15 car field. Had 7.5 gallons of fuel on board with a stop planned at lap 27-28 for just fuel, no tires. It seemed to work out, plus I never got held up much by slower cars and had a clean track most of the time after the first 7 or 8 laps. So had a pretty clean race over all. Almost blew it on the last lap , I almost stopped with one to go until Ken came on the mic and told me to finish the lap. Thanks Ken. There was some confusion about the finish time, at least on my part. With Ken in the lead and right behind me, he took the checkered flag and I got the white flag 1 or 2 seconds ahead of him. Even thought the 120 minutes was up I still had to finish my lap witch put me back on the lead lap in third place . So with the Jetta's two lap penalty gave me the over all win. All in all it was a great event.
