Awesome turn out tonight.... 11 racers. Some very tight and clean racing going on too!

I think the tire rule worked out pretty well tonight.
Next Sunday, Varga, Alek, Steve and myself will need to start on meds (since Steve and I are tied for 3rd).
I'll post the points tomorrow.

I was planning to have 1 more "non-race car" series before we moved into the SuperGT cars and used the SuperGT "success ballast" system.

... and yes a Go-Kart mini series would be fun!

I didn't make it last night... Was away for the weekend.

I can't help but think you guys are making things way too complicated though, with floating rules based on your current race position and all. Then trying enforce it all, when some of the participants are not on the forum and dont know whats going on.

What's wrong with just straight racing and letting skill decide the winner? I certainly wouldn't want to be given a handicap just because I was a mid-fielder. If I wanna be a top runner, make me work for it!

Also, keeping it a simple straight-up race would be more inviting to new recruits than overly complex floating rules that are constantly changing week-to-week, IMHO.

Would I prefer close straight up racing? Yes.
Is everyone there yet? No.

Since Varga, Alek and I were the top 3, we decided to handicap ourselves to try to produce tight racing.
Having the top 3 start their race on medium tires proved to provide really close racing last night.

The mandatory pitstop for everyone is no different than F1, and allowed people to kill their tires and get a fresh set 1/2 way though the race instead of crashing out (or worse into someone else) while trying to stay on track. Think of it as more of a safety concern.

I also think there is a pile to be said for car setup, as much as driver skill. Some just can't get a car to where it's fast no matter how much they try. I found one of the most enjoyable series from last year was the NASCAR series, it put all the blame on the driver. There was a few races I finished a lap or so down in, and then there was the race I had a lap on everyone else on the track to win. I much prefer not racing a spec series, and racing a PP one, and if some of the biggest racing leagues in the world run with handicap rules, I'm sure it's good enough for our little sim racing group.

I really liked these last two races, there is a lot more to think about and I was racing against a lot more people.

Well, we have just moved out of our mobile, and will be moving into the new house next weekend, so I may not be able to run this weekend. I'm going to try to get set up over here, or if the power does not get taken off the old house tomorrow, I may race in the old spot. Gonna be cold over there though, as the heat is turned off!! I'm really hoping to race, as I think that Monza is likely my best shot at a podium finish in this series.

That was the best racing in this series so far tonight! I love running Monza, it has lots of room for great passing, drafting to keep even the fastest cars somewhat close, and a great flow to the track that just feels right when you get the perfect line. I'm hoping that I'll be into the house and done with moving next weekend, as I was racing in my parents basement tonight

I was running quick laps in the pre-race practice @ Cape Ring, but lack of seat time meant no consistency, and i ended up crashing twice during the race; finishing second to last. It was frustrating because between crashes my comparison split times told me I was running 3-4 seconds lap faster than the leader, at least in the first half of the race. 8O

At Monza I was a sitting duck on the straights. I could barely keep up when in someones draft, and without a draft people flew past me like I was standing still. I had my gearing set to 270 kph and had 259 HP, so I'm guessing that was my problem. Was running consistent 2:02 laps. What were you guys running?

I was at 1:59 - 2:00 consistent, but I was at 1:58's in practice. I was running my gears at 270 in practice, and ran 280 in the race, I think that was the difference, although I was only at 365hp during practice, and was at 388 for race night. I was hitting the limiter at 270 when drafting though.

Great racing last night guys!

I knew my Cape Ring laps were not stellar, only 1:50.Xs so I was hoping for just a top 1/2 of the field finish.
I took some minor damage early in the race when trying to pass a weaving car and I thought I could keep going, but this damage effected my breaking and turn in for some corners and eventually I lost it and hit the wall with major damage. Had to pit 2-3 laps earlier than I was planning.

At this point I was on damage control, I expected I would be at the bottom of the pack by the end of the race, so I was really surprised to be hunting down 3rd in the closing lap. Sadly Rob was just a little too far our of reach and my tires were toast by that point.

Monza was another story. Took the lead at the start and lead for several laps until I got nervous with 2 yellow cars (Rob & Steve) filling my mirrors and made a (late braking) mistake at Roggia and took minor damage. Soon after that McIntyre passed me, I was inside my pitstop window so I decided to pit. When I came out I pushed like hell, and managed to take back 2nd place by leap frogging Rob in the pitstop sequence. I was half way down the front straight when cheechoo was going into turn 1 having just come out of the pits. I was in 2nd but this was my race to lose.

He had fresh/cold tires on a semi-wet track and my tires were at least 3-4 laps old but up to temp. I was already pushing hard so I just kept on going. Over the next few laps I caught him and we traded places (but not paint) a few times. In final lap he was right behind me going through Ascari however he encountered wheel spin on the way out and lost momentum.

In the end we crossed the finish line 0.1 seconds apart! #thatswhatimtalkingabout

There were even closer finishes further down the pack, with Steve & (someone) finishing 0.03 seconds apart 8O

Last night was definitely the closest racing we've had the entire series!
Can't wait to see some pix from last night!

Final night in the series coming up next Sunday at Spa & Motegi.
Also a reminder that you get to drop your 2 worst results.
