No season schedule or build news yet, but it's certain that the Lotus 49 will be released...

    Image

Anyone have it pre-ordered or plan to purchase it when it's released?

I'm having frame rate issues all of a sudden which is making it hard for me to want to buy anything. Nothing changed at home, FR were fine one day and then suddenly I started having issues. I know my computer is old so I got my hands on a "new to me" computer and I'm still having the same issue. Tried video settings, bypassing the router and plugging direct into the computer, nothing is making a difference. Speed test and Ping test all seem good but the packet data meter is spikeing every now and again and it never did before. Maybe it's the Eastlink modem, I don't know how to check. So, if I get this fixed then yes, I will be purchasing the Lotus!

I had to decrease some resolution after an update a few months ago or it would pause for a split second in a couple of places on the track.

Turning the mirror resolution down, deleting the spectators, etc... had minimal effect so I had to decrease the slider bar thingy down a notch to get it to stop doing it.

This is probably common sense, but do you shut down everything on your PC before launching the sim? Maybe you have something else running in the background that's hogging all your machines resources.

I'll often reboot my machine just before racing, then launch a program called Game Booster 3 ( http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html ). It temporarily shuts down background processes and unnecessary Windows services, cleans the RAM, freeing up all the computers resources for running iRacing. Might be worth a try. It's free.

That or you might have a hardware failure... a bad stick of RAM or whatever.

Or it could be just the track your racing at. Some tracks like Suzuka & Spa are real frame rate killers. I'll sometimes drop down to 25 FPS at Spa, when I normally run at 100 FPS.

And finally, try reducing your in-game graphics settings. When I race at Suzuka or Spa, I'll set everything to low detail, turn off shadow maps, basically turn everything off I can to help improve my frame rate.

I'm currently running triple screens with a Dual Core CPU, which is my main problem. iRacing is quite CPU intensive.

Thanks for the help! I have tired and lowered all graphics settings with no difference. That is what is strange to me, one day it was fine on a older computer, the next day it was not and hasn't been since. My newer computer now is a duel core at least and I am going to buy more RAM today. I thought the newer computer would fix the problem for sure, I actually swaped over my video and RAM from the old to the new so maybe I am having a hardware failure since the problem still exists. I can't be sure but Stacy has me thinking that maybe this problem did start right after the last iRacing update. I will see how my new RAM works tonight, I will be removing my old 2x 1Gb sticks and replaceing it with a matched set of 4x 2GB. Next it will probably be a video card upgrade but that will also require a power supply upgrade as well.

Wow, you were originally running on a single core CPU with 2Gb of RAM? I'm surprised it worked at all! lol

I personally never experienced a decrease in performance with any past builds. *shrug*

On the topic of RAM, I was running 4GB on Windows XP 32-bit. When I upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit, I wanted to take advantage of its higher RAM capacity so I added another 4GB, or 8GB total. The extra RAM made absolutely no difference. From what I've read, iRacing does not need (or utilize) a lot of RAM. The system requirements is only 2GB.

That said, your old RAM may be defective, so it wouldn't hurt to try swapping it out.

Brian, get a new modem from eastlink, I have had similar issues, turned out to be modem related.

When does season 4 start?

I was starting to think it may be an Eastlink issue, the modem is 6 years old. The problem I can picture now is when I call, they will get me to run some test that says everything is fine and they don't give a sh@t about gaming or how things have changed...end of call.

So maybe your cable modem mysteriously breaks.......
(open it up carefully, short/unplug/cut/break something, reassemble)

Maybe I should do that too... Occasionally I loose connectivity with my 9 year old modem and have to power it on / off to restore it ( which doesn't always work ).

No... working all weekend to get my rating up only to have somebody cream me twice on the same race (...negating all my hard work) is what sucks :?

BTW if one were to renew, should they wait for Black Friday or would this deal be as good as it gets?

Thanks
Stacy

The deal I mentioned above is for new members only. You could create a new account, but you'd be starting from scratch again and not have access to any car/tracks you've purchased.

But yeah, every so often a renewal deal pops up. Last July I bought a year's subscription for 50% off. And just a month before that there was a deal where you get $30 CR for renewing. Keep an eye out and something will come up before too long. You can always go month-to-month in the meantime, instead of paying full price to renew now for another year.

So I kept my rating at around a D3.50 or higher last season (a high of 3.94 which was just shy of a bump I think), did dozens of Miata cup races, a few qualifyings, and at least one Time Trial ...but I didn't graduate up into C class.

Am I missing something that is going to cause me to not graduate again this Oct 31st :?:

Oh, and how's the connectivity problem Brian? 8)

Thanks
Stacy

You should graduate, you've done the required number of races and kept your SR up, so I don't see why you shouldn't graduate..you could always try to fasttrack your way up into the next class by getting your SR above 4 before the end of the season

You can also click on the MPR which is in the top right corner next to the little helmet, that'll tell you if you're ready for a promotion or not

You most likely had not meet your Minimum Participation Requirement (MPR) in a series for which you are licensed. The Nvidia Cup is a Rookie class series, so it would not give you the MPR required for a C license promotion. Instead, you need to run 4 races or time trials in one of the following D class series:

    • Grand Touing Cup
    • Spec Ford Racer Challenge
    • iRacing Mustang Cup
    • Skip Barber Race Series.

And you'll need to do it before 9pm next Monday, when season 03 ends.

If you really want to make your life easy, just do the time trials. I got up to a C license on time trials. Paying for it now as I work to get in to more races after not doing them at lower levels...but that is neither here nor there

If all goes well, meaning I don't screw up over the next few days, I am already set to finally get my A license in both Oval and Road!

Stacy, I know what you mean about having bad luck, I went through a bad stretch a week ago, was ready to be promoted but then it was like I just couldn't avoid the accidents. I never caused any accidents but always seemed to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. After getting past that it was alot of work to get back up to where I was, I was in danger of getting demoted, which would suck. Stick with it, get your MPR required to graduate and have fun. I hope we can race again this winter!

With iRacing's new League Functionality, it would be awesome to create an ARMS league.

However, I'm not sure we have enough numbers currently. We did last winter when a whole bunch of ARMS members joined iRacing, but most of those guys let their subscriptions expire and seemed to loose interest in the service. :(

Maybe I'll start a new post to gauge interest....

I've just been having fun doing the hourly Miata races, but seeing that I (rightly so to graduate up...) had to try new things I jumped into a Skippy last night and did Charlotte road course.

So I started out with a TT just so I could learn the car and track ...and gain some MPR while doing it. After a few offs and spins  (-0.03) I got 'er done. However while waiting for the next race to come up a few hours away I tried another TT but had my Fanatec wheel shut down :x and took me the session to restore it.

So I went into the race figuring that I'd just be a back marker, but it went real well as I finished 7/14 less than 2 seconds off the leaders time even with a couple of offs. I did a couple of TT's after as there was no more races until after I went to bed ...completing my 6 laps each time but no MPR score though? I guess I have to stay in the session longer? No matter as racing is a lot more fun, so I 'll be back tonight

As long as you post a time in TT, it should give you an notch towards your MPR.

This is just a general statement, but I always use the Test functionality in order to get used to a track/car instead of TT. I don't like the idea of my 'learning experiences' causing my SR to drop.

I agree ...but time is of the essence now 8)

I must say it was nice racing with people who weren't trying to kill me  ...I think all but two people had "+" points in that race, Sweet!

BTW Congrats Brian!

Haha, the homicidal racers come and go at any class. Depends on the track too. Road America...just start from the pits, I died four times on the first corner in the Star Mazda series because people were being hooligans.

You're a brave man taking the Skippy out to a race that quick. Man, me and that car did not have a good relationship
