Anyone have a list of scheduled dates for the events?

Damn, I need to get my butt in gear and finish the S70. We took it out for a test run at the Truro Auto-X a few weeks ago and it tried to kill me a few times and smoke itself to death. Bad/non-existant front brakes + a clogged flame trap = an interesting day.

That reminds me, I need to give my mechanic a call and see how he's making out with it.

Still need to get off my butt and put an oil pan on the green car. Got rims for it ready for leftover gravels from the rally car. Sound be slightly easier to manage than the wear-bar Traction T/As it ran last year. :)

Sounds like our gravel tires from last year. We finally bought some 15's so now we can run some reasonably priced rubber.

Prepare for the return of the Rav4. And this time I don't have to save enough of it to drive 4 hours back home!

Fingers crossed, I'm hoping to Tow the Battlewagon out there.. If Life goes right this winter, I'm planning on making a run on the 4WD MOD this season.. ;) Momma says I'm not allowed to race the WRX tho.... :(

In case you forget which car the Battlewagon is:

over the spring, she got a Ej25 swap into it, and some visual upgrades..

How much luck have people had in the past with cheap kijiji subarus in rallycross (in terms of how much breaks - I'm expecting some broken parts)? Seem to be a couple cheap(ish) ones that still have a year left on inspection. Just gotta convince one or two friends to go in on one. Since rallyX is close to elmsdale I can just park the car there and pick it up when I need to go to an event.

I want to get out to more events this year, but I don't really want to run my 328 again. I really regret not keeping my AWD e30.

The thing to watch with the super cheap Subarus is rusty strut towers, if those are intact the next up are struts and then tires/wheels. Other than that really not much is liable to go wrong in a rallycrossed Subaru that wasn't going to go wrong on the street anyway.

Blown struts on a subaru?

Nah.

Thanks for the info. Should be able to start looking once I have storage for the M3 sorted.

Up until our green TS wagon got relegated to RallyCross duty I was seriously considering a cheap-as-possible 1st generation Forester as a rallycross tool. The extra clearance really helps at AMP/snow events. Whatever Subaru you end up with get good meaty snow tires. They don't have to be good tires, just lots of blocky tread.

There is a '94 Audi S4 on Kijiji, $2000.

Almost too nice a car to be rallycrossed, but you would be in the lap of luxury on the way to events. :)

(Price balljoints before you buy..... ;) )

I've been preparing over the last few weeks, and have finally been able to source a new, non knocking ej25 (non knocking for now). Althought the ej22 I ran last year hasn't exploded yet much to my surprise, the lack of bottom end power from it made it difficult again some serious competition cough Wayne cough. Hopefully I'll be able to find an hour or two this week to throw the motor in and have some time to work the bugs out before the first event of the year.
I'm still looking for a set of gravels for the early rallyx events (205 55 16 if anyone is to stumble across them).

Can't wait to make some drift!!!!!!

You're not going to find 16" gravels. They exist, but they're hugely rare and expensive. 15" is the standard size pretty much everywhere in North America.

Here is a great rallycross candidate - listed for $400

How many events are there each season?
Might be cheaper to pick up a rental at the airport for each one :orglaugh:

If anybody wants to go really fast, I've got 4 sets of gravels. Prices between 200-400/set.

If 15" rims would fit over my brakes I would buy a set from you Bruce. Looks like I'll be running old winters for the first few events provided it doesn't snow in the meantime :(

What are you running for brakes? If they're WRXes you can use spacers and/or shave the outer corner of the caliper down a bit. Not ideal, but it might get the job done. I don't think you have to take much off.

Just stock Leg GT brakes with 2 piston calipers. To be honest I've never tried 15" rims, I've just been told they wont clear the brakes.

Hmm, the 2 pots on the 02-07 2.5 NAs fit 15's just fine. Not sure where LegGTs fit in the spectrum though. I'd give them a try first.

(I've got a stack of various Sube 15's here if you need one to try)

Gravels are going on the wagon tomorrow! (Bit of a Subaru RIm/Tire shortage at the moment with 4 of them in the driveway, going to have to drive on the gravels to events for a bit. :) )

There is no way that Joe and I will have the S70 running in time for the first event....and I have my doubts that it'll make it back on to the road anytime soon.

I am now looking for a suitable replacement, and something a bit more practical this time around. After getting back in to a RWD car for the last few months, I had forgotten how much fun they can be, and am now on the lookout for another one.

If anyone knows of a decent RWD, fuel injected Volvo with a manual transmission, I am VERY interested. Turbo models are preferred, but I would be happy with a strong NA car. An auto turbo car might be an option as well if the price is right.

I'll check out Dunsworth's place on Monday and see what he has available. Otherwise, I might be showing up with a $500, 2 months left on the MVI, Kijiji special....
