Do you know how PAX factors work?
Basically there's a handicap associated with each class (ie H-Street, B-Street, C-Prepared, STX, etc etc) that accounts for the potential performance of the vehicles built for that class. Using the PAX factor handicaps, you can theoretically tell whether a driver in one class performed better than a driver in a different class.
This year, instead of looking at every single class individually, and having 40+ potential "class winners", we're looking at the classes in appropriate groups and using the PAX factors to compare the drivers within each group.
Long story short, in the first event you weren't just compared to the other drivers in H-Street. You were compared to the all the drivers in all the street classes (SS/AS/BS/CS/DS/ES/FS/GS/HS).
Including the handicapping (which benefits you relative to everyone else), you were found to be in 5th (?) place within that group, so you were given 9 points for the event.

Ah. You got 9 points in the ARMS championship, but you'll get 20 points in ASCC championship. Those points aren't posted yet. The first event was an ARMS regional event hosted by ASCC. So it will count towards both championships. Confused now?

This is correct, but only towards ARMS championship points.

Just drive as fast as you possibly can, and the rest will sort itself out ;)

Where can I fnd info on how the scoring system works?

For the ARMS Autoslalom Championships, they are described in the ARMS Regional Autoslalom Regulations. You can find them on the ARMS web site here:
http://www.armsinc.ca/solosport/documents/

Direct link to the document:
http://www.armsinc.ca/wp-content/upload ... s-2014.pdf

Most clubs have their own club championships. How they are scored is up to the club. MMSC adopted the same scoring system as ARMS except MMSC group SP/SM together and Prepared/Modified together for 2 less groupings. ASCC is using the old scoring system from what I heard. FMC doesn't use SCCA classifications. For the Canadian Autoslalom Championships, there are trophies for each class and the overall is determined by PAF/PAX.

Applies to any level you're competing in, including National level events. I ran my Celica in STC at the Match Tour last weekend and finished last. The Celica is prepped for GS except I don't have stock rims. If I ran in GS, I would have been competitive and finished top 4 on day 1. All the STC cars there were all prepped to the max for STC.

Thanks everyone, it's beginning to make sense. Especially the 'go fast' part!
