What are the regulations with respect to passengers? I have a friend that wants to come with me tomorrow. Based on the weather, I think they would rather be in the car than in the rain. Are there any loaner helmets available?
Thanks!

Full regs regarding passengers can be found in the ASN Lapping Regulations.
http://asncanada.com/ASN_Solosport/2012 ... ations.pdf

In short, under 3 lapping days you're a novice, so no passengers.
Also there will not be any loaner helmets available.

Does this mean I need to be accompanied by an instructor? I have a competition license for both time attack and lapping.

Quote:
14. Novice Drivers
1. A novice driver is defined as one who has participated in 3 three or fewer lapping
events or does not hold an ASN Canada FIA recognized competition licence.
2. Novice drivers on the track are required to be accompanied by an instructor assigned
by the Clerk of the Course until the instructor signs them off to run unaccompanied.
3. Each Novice drivers is required to affix a triangle to the back of their vehicle until
signed off to run unaccompanied.
4. Novice drivers are not allowed to carry passengers for their first event.

You hold an ASN Canada FIA recognized license (your lapping/Time Attack license) so you're good.
However we do not allow passengers for the first 3 events.

Guys we've decided to cancel the event for tomorrow.
Sorry for the short notice but the forecast keeps getting worse and even if everyone who has pre-paid shows up there will not be enough people to man the stations. We may re-schedule the event, but it's unlikely.

Earlier today they were only calling for 5-10mm of rain, now it's 20-30mm of rain and increasing.
I can't find a single forecast that doesn't have rain all day for Stewiacke or Shubenacadie.

Please pass this word along by any means, I'd hate for someone to show up tomorrow at the gate.

Again my apologies.

ohhhh noooooooooooooooooooo......... it rained that much on the time attack and we ran fine. myself, and 2 others were going to pre-register tonight after we put our tires on. I still think we should have ran because of what it was last week and it was fine and "safe". If the three of us registered would we have enough people between two run groups?

at the end of the day its upto you, but we NEED one more lapping day before the end of the season (i just purchased new breaks JUST for this weekend and I threw out my old ones that would have been fine for a week or so of normal driving... please dont let them go to waste!!! :) hahahahahahahaha)

this was my salvation for this week of hell (words from myself and the two others) so if we could PLEASEEEEEEEE have one more day I think EVERYBODY agrees it would be stupentacular (stupendous+spectacular) if we could pull this off, anything YOU need to help get one more day under our belts WE will do anything!

We only had 7 pre-registered. Not enough to man stations.

As for a rescheduled date, there are not many days left in 2012 and we suspect they are all booked, but we'll see.

so we have 3 that will 100% come out to the track, 5 on and 5 off. does that work?

I'm kicking myself now I didn't register earlier for Saturday. With the 15mm plus of predicted rain it might have sucked marshaling anyways (especially in 11). It would be nice to get one last lapping day for the end of the season, scheduling commits of course. If not, I'll see everyone next year and big thanks to everyone who put in time to make these events possible.

Nice try Mark, but I'm pretty sure there's no undo for payment refunds.

Just got up to load the car and checked my emails :( hopefully this will encourage folks to preregister earlier. Just put a COBB short shifter and Whiteline sways on the Sti and Toyo R888s on the Miata this week had hoped to try them out. It would be great if we could reschedule going to be a long winter...

[quote="Jason Smith"]We are running tomorrow regardless of pre-registration #s.

AFAIK Bill will be there between 8 and 8:30 with registration closing at 9:30.
Please do not be late.

8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O

I read this last night at 6pm, got everything ready to go. was leaving early to be there at 8am to help Bill however I could. I was just about to leave when I checked this site and couldnt believe what I saw. This is not good ! ! !. I too recently purchased new brakes to see if my braking problem was resolved. This is very disappointing to say the least. I hope some effort is put into a rescheduling. I have been to AMP for track days on motorcycles in the rain and the cold, so I hope a later date of some sort can be achieved. When is the AGM ? OH yea its 8am and not raining. I know its coming.... Just Saying.....

When I said we'd run regardless of #'s and to be there at 8am to assist Bill, the weather forecast was only calling for 0 to 5mm all day, which isn't bad and not even worth mentioning the word "rain".

Now if we had 0 pre-registration and the weather was calling for 0-5mm (as it was) I was confident that we'd get a least 15 people out lapping at least.

However by 6:30pm the weather was getting increasingly worse for the day. The best forecast I could find was rain all day with amounts to 20mm, most were calling for 30mm. I always pick the best forecast and run with it, but this time there was no good forecast.

Compounding that Jay & I were not going to be at the track to assist Bill meant that potentially there may not be enough physical people there to run the event. Trying to run an event like this with under 12 people is VERY difficult.

The decision was made, the website was updated, the post went up, emails & tweets (@AtlanticFormula) were sent out and any phone #s I had were called ASAP.

I apologize for the late decision, but I do feel it was the best decision given the circumstances.

We will check the calendar on Monday for free dates, but it looks like 2013 will be the next AFRA Track Day.

So i live in milford and its raining... lots..... and lots. On and off.lol

I know in the past during track clean up anyone who came out and help could go lapping after clean-up was done, FREE. but you had to put in your time in cleaning things up. One year I went and it was Bill A, Paul C and myself. There was a bike guy there as well, dont remember his name. Me and Paul C did 1 30 min sesion for fun and called it a day. Was a blast. So if they cant make anothere lapping day then this would be your best option.
We all need to remember that the clubs arent here to lose money. The last time attack did i believe, And my guess is so would have today. Lapping days normaly make the clubs money. Thats the key part of lapping. Cheap fun track time for everyone and money for the club. And yes i know I am not out lapping... But i have been in your guys shoes before. Paying extra to make time attacks happen, Only running 2-3 lapping sessions a day becouse we didnt have many corner workers, helped out for time attacks so competors didnt have to. Great way to help out by the way. Anyway, i know losing a track day sucks, If a race was canceled i would be pissed, but its going to happen. Some year. Hoping a event in maybe 2090 or something.lol. Anyway i know your all just up-set and so on. Just figured i would mention the track clean-up day.

The only way to guarantee events go on is to a) Pre-register (And pay!) and b) Maybe live with a sliding scale price based on the number of entrants. It sucks but as Joel says, the clubs are non-profit, but they're not a charity. It costs a good chunk of change to rent AMP, it costs a good chunk more to get insurance for these events. We all want the track to be available whenever we want, but realities have to be faced.

I just want to make it clear that in this circumstance the decision to cancel the event was due to presumed lack of physical bodies at the track and not related to money. We barely make money on an average day so we knew going into this weekend we were going to take a loss.

But Joel is right. There maybe one more chance to lap, with the end of year clean up. Thanks for reminding us of that Joel!

It sucks; both events I have entered have been canceled. I completely understand why the decision was made though. That said, it really would have been nice to have a little more of a heads up. Left Fredericton for Halifax on Friday at noon and booked a hotel just for this event. Found out it was canceled Friday night after I was settled in. So about 60 dollars worth of fuel and 130 dollars worth of accommodations for nothing, not to mention 8 hours worth of driving. Might not mean much to some but for a struggling university student it is significant 8O

Ouch! :(

Not sure what the solution could be, other than setting a definitive preregister / prepay / cutoff date policy with a minimum number of participants. Then the event is covered and any extra people that show up to register on-site are a bonus.

But with said policy, I suspect that most events would get canceled anyway. We just don't have enough numbers (yet).

Mike,

Again, I apologize for the short notice, it couldn't be helped.
However since you were one of the VERY FEW that pre-registered please PM/Email me and we'll see if we can't work something out.

Thanks,
Jason

That really does suck, that's why I travel last minute to these things :) I was going to leave Sydney at 4 a.m., thankfully Jason emailed me Friday evening.
