How do you get parts for one of these, if you were to buy one? Most of them aren't exactly current.

Don't get me wrong, they're way cool, and I'd like nothing better than to go out and do a few laps of AMP lying on my back 6 inches off the ground, it's just my pesky practical side asking questions.

Most cars you can still order parts out of a catalog/online.
Pegasus, BAT, Primus etc

Things break and there is still a market for replacement parts.

Parts aren't really a problem.

There is nothing else on four wheels that drives like these. Period.

That said they require more skill and mistakes can hurt and cost a lot more. Contact is bad news. Anything you buy will need work to run at AMP. Modern monocoque cars are very expensive and much safer.. I would be intersted in seeing if anyone would be interested in looking at the new spec ford class.

I sprung for rebuilding the transmission on mine and it'll be in trim next year.

If price is a factor buy a miata..

Actually yes. I noticed on a few of the ads that they do specify the height/size of the driver.
Some have been 6'6 or taller and +280lbs. Normally it's listed or people specifically ask.

I remember in the late 90's early naughties, there was a dude who raced that red (sorry, crimson) 88-89 VD 1600 and he had no seat. The car never came with one he said...

As for the cars we've seen...

That Dulon is one uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugly mutha@#$%a.

The Crossle, on the other hand...

Mitch - I'd go for one of the more common chassis available: VD, Reynard, Swift, even Lola (tho they haven't made a FF since the T640 in 84-85). There were a lot around when they were new, and parts were abundant. A Hewland is a Hewland and a Ford OHC 1600 is a Ford OHC 1600. There's a bajillion of them.

To Andy Mitchell In my car you are only 1 1/2 inches off the pavement,my butt is on the floor pan .

To anyone else who is interested in buying a Formula car I would gladly help you out , I have been racing them since 1990 and have owned a few . I know what are good cars, what are good value and what to stay away from .
I personally would go with FF , less expensive to run and replace parts, also if you want to race other tracks it is easier to find a series or event running FF . There is a good series in Quebec, The Formula Tour series and in Ontario there is the OFFC series . The F 2000 would be a lot of fun but more expensive , example wings to replace incase of an accident .

Cheers

Tim

Go and call Lucas......can remember we still have 5 of them at the warehouse and ??? in Switzerland!

Btw...fastest Formula car in recent years - Formula BMW FB2 - in the 1:05.xx with Gabby Chaves and with Lucas being 2/10 slower...sorry Luc!

Why FB2 and not higher HP car like F Renault/Libre? Best grip, excellent balance; enough HP.

Correct me if I am wrong....

It looks like it has been awhile since there was much interest on this thread.
Anyway, my '84 Reynard is going to be for sale as soon as I have it all fixed up and ready to race. Maybe a couple of weeks.
If you want to race anywhere, this would be a nice car to have. It began as a FF but has now been maximized for performance. It now races as a Formula Libre and nothing was spared to make it fast enough for an old geezer to win races. The engine is "special" and will make anyone look and be fast. Improvements in suspension and wheels and tires make it faster. If I can do 1:09's, think what you could do. And it's old enough to race in the Vintage Class. I will probably add a wing too and then 1:07's are not unreasonable. Lots of spares too.
I will post some pictures and specs soonish.
Bill

Really Bill? You want to sell this one? I would keep it...if only for sitting in the car in your garage and dreaming of the good times you had in it!

Just to remind the folks out there...we still have 6 (7?) Formula BMW's for sale right here in Halifax. There are plenty of spares in our warehouse, engines, gearboxes, gears, wheels, suspension pieces and on. We like to keep open wheel racing alive in Atlantic Canada and can offer all parts as a supplier (fixed used parts price @ 50% of new) so you don't have to buy a shxtload and spend money on items you might never use, or if wanted as an outright purchase included in the car purchase. Interested? Pls pm or email - ingo@atlanticracingteam.com
