On behalf of the Spec Miata Championship Drivers Association, I would like to welcome Susan Boddie to our Series. Susan would like to compete in the entire 2012 Toyo Tires Spec Miata Championship. Below is her 1992 Spec Miata. Welcome aboard! We are sure she will have TONS of fun in that car at AMP this year.

So all you GT5/iracers forget that safe school-boy video toy thing and take Susan's lead and come do some real adult racing with the rest of us.

Thanks for the warm welcome Bruce and Blu :)

Should be lots of fun!

Yes, this is not the number that will be used clearly, just the one that is on it now!

Thanks :)
Susan

Seriously...... this is all we can talk about is a car number on a car that comes from another region??? Come on??

I for one and Bruce for two WELCOME Susan Boddie to the Toyo Tires Spec Miata Championship. We should be happy for Susan and welcome her for wanting to try something new and wish her well.

The series is shaping up to be a a very exciting and competitive championship with a possible 9 cars starting on the grid, thats a 300% growth from last year folks! If you do not already know the Toyo Tires Spec Miata Championship is running 3 separate races on race day which alternates between the GT races, except for the one hour Atlantic challenge race when all cars will be on the track at the same time.

Lets have fun and enjoy grassroots racing.

See you at AMP soon.

Congratulations Susan!...going SM is a wise decision, well...wise in the context of racing anyway...nice to see people around here maybe starting to get on the same page with something that has a real chance of success...

Oh...and in no way does 9 cars equate to 'awesome', not even close, and if anyone thinks it is you have exceedingly low standards...but...9 is twice as good again as 3 last year and it is a great start for the first proper TTSMC season...calling it awesome with 7-9 cars when it is still very much in its nascency is IMO selling the future potential of the series waaay short...steady competitor growth over the next few years, up to 20-25 cars, then we can brag a bit...

Perhaps my standards are low, but after watching just about everything else relating to racing at AMP wither for the last couple of years, I think the progress in the Spec Miata series is awesome. Blu, Steve and Bruce went out on a big limb last year and *gasp* did something new at the track. And after a year it isn't gone; it isn't just the three of the plugging away; but instead it's growing.
9 cars is about as big as some of the traditional races were last year. That's huge progress considering the numbers of racers we've had coming out.
And really, speaking as someone out on a stand all day, having enough cars to have 3 Spec Miata races every race day instead of watching 3 or 4 cars lap for half an hour between races; that is awesome.

Thanks Aaron G! Maybe now we can put on some sort of "show" to keep you guys from knodding off in the afternoon.
Aaron P.; I like your new "#08 Dairy Queen/Orange Julius/Granwyll Industries Spec Miata" item in your signature. Perhaps ALL of the SM cars should be running DQ decals!

Yeah...I said/know all that...calling a 9 car field awesome just makes it seem so 'small-time'...it just puts ARMS road racing in perfect perspective, pathetic fields are the accepted/expected norm...more than 10 cars on track, like the JCM, and the way people talk it's like Bernie brought the F1 circus to AMP...anyway, this is a good diversion from boredom this afternoon and here's hoping for and expecting better this season, next season and beyond for the TTSMC!

I like how you leveraged this thread into sponsorship solicitation Bruce!...fair enough...our 2012 sponsorship funds are already allocated between my F2000 program, Anwyll/Pettipas SM, Leigh's Corvette and 2x drag racers but I know you guys are invested in this series for the long haul and I intend to do the same...so let's wait and see...

Did you receive any clarification from Mazda concerning prize monies per race?

I for one think that if SM does get 3 times as many cars as last season that WILL be awesome! I can't wait to see it.

3 to 9 is 3 times as good, not twice. :P

And from the stand, I'm with Aaron, this is AWESOME!!!!

Congrats Susan, I'm sure Debbie loves the paint scheme. :D

That's why I said twice as many AGAIN...we had 3, twice as many = 6, twice as many AGAIN is 3+6=9, make sense to the pedants of the forum?...in my mind it does...but that's not important, 9 is 9 and we all know by now 9 is the 'magic' number and agree that 9 is awesome... so trivial, but what isn't trivial is how badly some can overlook the principle point of my missive, that being DON'T SETTLE FOR MEDIOCRITY! WE CAN, AND WILL, DO BETTER!...there, that should be fairly obvious now...hard to change this thinking, I know...seems mediocrity is endemic and often embraced in this part of the world...

With the way regional car racing has been going at AMP the last few years - I would say a new series having 9 cars in its second season qualifies as "awesome".

Hats off to Bruce McNutt.

Thanks! Blu has done a ton of work too.

I guess me & Miatas isn't really new. My first Miata was a 1990 model that I bought in 1996 at an auction. It was a theft recovery. It even had a hardtop. I sold it to someone in the racing community. I can't remember who. He painted it gold. I saw it at AMP a year or so later.

Also, below is a pic of me in a IMSA C class (basically showroom stock) 1996 Miata at Watkins Glen 3-hour enduro. Blu & I were crewing for Tommy Johnson. The car was brand new. There was 2 of them.

Mystery solved. I remember he had a HUGE set of rims on it. What ever happened to it?

I believe they were 18" wheels, with BF Goodrich Scorcher T/A tires (i.e with the yellow stripes).
