For what its worth...I found/find that the grip level is lower when in Jason's lounge area during a multi car race from what I have in my online lounge.

Scott...I could see the trouble you were having with the car and I am wondering if all the cars have the same level of problem in the lounge or is it just some of the cars?

Would be nice to be able to set the car up in one lounge and play in another...

Kevin if you were to join my lounge (alone) you'd have the same grip/physics as if you joined your lounge (alone).

The difference is when more people start joining.
I think the reduced grip is actually the games way of compensating or dealing with latency & lag.

If there's only 2 people in the lounge, the grip should be better than if there is 16 people in the lounge.

The reason it was bad last night was because it was the largest race we've had in a longtime, +10 I think.

However with all that said, there still is massively different grip levels and physics between the ONLINE Lounge, and OFFLINE Practice mode.

EDIT:

Buried in one of these threads below is Kaz Yamauchi actually stating that the online physics is different than offline physics.

Still not sold. That's two completely different cars traveling at different speeds and following slightly different paths. There's way too many variables to objectively compare them.

See the 5 links posted above.... all say the physics are different.

Even Kaz Yamauchi says the physics is different online vs offline... and he should know, it's his game!

I just use the "Search this thread" tool using the "Kaz: keyword" on all the links listed above and found nothing, but I'll take your word for it. Doesn't make any sense to me though, unless they had to use a stripped-down physics engine for online due to the extra load / traffic. In any event, it sucks. :P

I often run in your lounge to test my set ups and they appear to be the same as my lounge...when I'm alone.

The difference between practise mode and the lounge is big...so much so that I don't use the practise mode except to test a track layout.

The search filter doesn't find any word 3 characters or shorter.
It's a quote from his twitter feed from like 8 months ago.

i had Loads of grip at all times last night..well except when the tires wear out. But i had no problem with sliding or grip at all.

I think most of it is car setup. i played around with alot of different setups and i found the sweet spot......I May have said too much allredy.

Kevin (et all) tune your car for COMFORT HARD tires and you will never have an issue!

Or just use snow tires in the race to try to find some grip on the online "ice" tracks :P

my grip levels were horrid last night. Without changing anything and going into my lounge they were better, but not good yet. I find that the Lotus required much more tuning to get drivable than any other car I've driven yet. I wasn't far from baseline when I started the first race, and when we went to Cape Ring, I changed very little, but it was obviously in the wrong direction. We'll see if it's the car or the room Thursday if the same amount of people show up.

I'm all for going to a stickier tire when the grip levels are that low, but if only some of us are having the problem, it's just going to make the fast people faster. That being said, last night just wasn't fun at all.

I think we were all having the same problems, it's just how well your setup and driving style was able to cope with the reduced grip.

That said, here are the results from last night:

Something wrong with those results Jason. I got 3rd place points for Cape Ring (35), but I don't see my points for Tsukuba. I can't remember where I finished but it wasn't DNF. Didn't I finish ahead of you?

This car seems to be very sensitive to setup.
Not sure what I have going on with it, but I went from dominationg race 1, to almost being lapped in race 2, with a very similar setup.

How Vincent got lucky at Cape Ring.....Cause the Merlin was in for great fight actually....we were swapping positions on a lap basis prior to the following incident.

Kevin, I in the past I have been know to go to the Merlin's lounge when he is not looking...and run a few laps for test/setup....then I go to random online rooms and have fun.......testing is fun but not as much as wheel to wheel....I have had better lap times in-race than the practice, but not always (may also be due to drafting)

If Paul got any worse than 8th at Cape ring then he would be tied for 3rd place.....otherwise he should be third in the points

50 reflects only the win from SOOOKUUUBAA

*Edit* I just checked the replay and Paul got 6th at the Cape....thats 20 points for total of 70

Thats a very close battle for 2nd

Here's the video of the first backmarker incident at Cape Ring.
When vincentq4 and I arrive on the scene, the backmaker already has his own problems and is just trying to recover.
I follow my training, "go for the smoke" (or if the car is sliding/spinning aim for where it is because it shouldn't be there when you arrive).
vincentq4 JUST squeezes through, and it looks like I should be ok until the backmarker does an odd 180 spin and goes right into my path.
Wait a few seconds after the impact to see stevedp and nd4speed1 both narrowly avoiding the accident scene.

Is anyone up for some online testing this evening at 9pm?

I'm going to up the "race connection quality" on my lounge settings to see if it helps at all.

The more people that can join the more accurate our results will be.

Thanks!
