Actually, the most popular series in iracing are the fixed setup series.

There are open and fixed for most popular series.

To me, it makes it more about the driving, at least you know what you are up against with a fixed setup, if you are down 3 seconds a lap, you know its you, not the car you must improve.

I honestly don't think it would shake up what we do, the fast guys will still be fast, the consistent guys will still be consistent, etc.

Well, I'm in the middle of a B-spec endurance right now, so I can't check my exact specs, but I was running about 220hp at Indy yesterday, in fact, I ran it that way for all the races, and was able to run lap times closer then I have been in the previous runs. I'm working 2 jobs, and have 2 small kids, so I pretty much don't have any practice time. Using a controller doesn't help either, but I've never run with a good wheel, so I'd be having a pretty good learning curve with that too. Regardless, I'm having a blast, where-ever I finish!! I'll stay OK in the points as long as I show up and finish every race.

If you want to race some spec Miata setups, I'll sponsor a private series on iRacing.

It's very challenging.. dead even.. humbling when you get wasted by guys in spec setups running 2-3s/lap faster.. and satisfying when you can turn 30 1:04's dead steady and they roll into a little ball.. and can get you thinking about where to go find a Miata to come play in the spring. ;)

I'm one of those who hasn't had time lately to do any setup stuff. I turn on the machine around race time and jump in. I'm not finding the Miata as well suited to myself as the 350 was. Actually the best car for me in the past few series was the Camaro SS from last springs race prep series.

I don't really recall the 1st turn of lap 1. I think knew I had a car on the inside and likely just got on the brakes too late. The 1st turn incident I wanted to look at was on the last lap between Scott and I. He drafted past me into 1, but I broke to the inside and we got together at turn in. I gave him back the spot but it really forced him off line in 2 and 3 and he spun.

I really liked the 350Zs as well.
As for setup, I spent maybe 5mins setting up the Miata during the first race night, added lots of camber and some toe and that was it.

I'll watch the replay tomorrow sometime just for kicks.

Actually, the time I have been spending on this game lately is random online racing with other people.

I get more from racing in the thick of it in a big group than practicing lap times.....in the Miata TC

In the last while I have put in more time in an assortment of cars than the lightweight Miata TC.....

When you race heavier vehicles enough...then jump into the lightweights...the learning curve becomes a lot more..and you feel you can get away with anything....

We can have a spec race "all-cars-equal" just like the Nascar we did last time.

Thanks Steve.

Back on topic, has anyone else completed the new Time Trial event?

I won the car yesterday but I'm sad to say you can't paint it, or change the #1 on the side. The bright side is the challenge is pretty easy, took me 2 or 3 laps to get under 1:42 for gold.

Oh and McIntyre, here's an interesting read for collecting all 5703 cars:

I did it. If you look under Rankings, you can select the "friends" checkbox and see the results of only people in your friends list. I beat your time. :P

But it took me about a dozen laps to get gold. I found it quite difficult. Zero grip.

BTW, you don't need gold to win the car. All you have to do is one lap and it's yours, regardless of your result.

Oh I thought you needed gold, oh well.
What was your time? I quit as soon as I got gold, with a 1:41.
It wasn't that great a lap (I think you can watch the replays), probably about 4-5 easy seconds left on the table due to sliding around.

Oh btw, just read that if you have the DLC there will be a patch for GT5 coming in December, so you can purchase the DLC cars from the Dealership in game (so you don't have to pay for the DLC again). So feel free to rack up the miles on them and then just buy them again for CR in December.

It was only a tenth or two faster than yours. Like you, I quit as soon as I beat 1:42, but it took me a while to do it.

I certainly would like to run a series where you "drive what they give you"

Yes my biggest problem is driving 'WITH' other real life drivers but I'm working on that...hard to do when you don't want to piss anyone off.

I'm having a hard time "Seeing" other cars in relation to mine while on the track.

oh well..."lifes a learning curve and just when you think you have it all figured out...someone turns the friggen lights out on you"!

I'd say you're doing quite well, Kevin. Better than most of us when we started last year.

Seeing as how it's my first time online racing with the PS3, I'm having a pretty steep learning curve myself. That being said, I'm not upset in the least running in the mid to the back of the pack. I'm getting experience and having a good time. I don't care if we are running Corvettes or a Prius, I'm there.

I go with the attitude that if I can't see you in my peripheral or my rear view, you must be close to along side and I try not to turn down on you. Any contact I make is accidental, well most haha, there has been some payback

Also if I inadvertently hit someone in a brake zone and gain a position, I usually just try to let them back by.

I usually like in-car view...but for our races I use the bumper cam which offers the most viewing area and the largest rear view (without toggling the rear button)...

This helps me be as clean as possible...this way any contact I make for the most part does not send anyone shooting off the track. It adds to the struggle and I believe a little contact adds to the fun due the the corrections required to maintain momentum.

But a mistake, is a mistake as with anyone. In the past I have in realtime fixed the mistake even if it put me back many places, points or whatever.

Like my days of varsity soccer...the goals I almost got were just as much fun as the ones I did get (none in University, many, many assists).

I don't have the results of last nights racing in front of me right now.
If anyone has them and cares to share I can update the spreadsheet, otherwise it'll be sometime tomorrow.

EDIT:

BTW today is the 1 Year Anniversary of GT5

Thanks to McIntyre and his trusty iPod... we have videos!

Here's the racing incident at RR 396
McIntyre is in the red car, I'm in the blue. (Jason B is the other red car just ahead of the action)
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nDWIAPBbo_8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I back out of the left hander in fear that I'm going to slide into McIntyre, this gives him a better launch out of the turn, but as I take my line into the turn we accidently make contact (my right rear, to his front left) this sends me up the hill, into a spin and back in front of him. No one's fault really, just an incident.

Here we see McIntyre's very bold move into turn one of R246. A little rubbing but he makes it work.

Well, I'm up front of the action in both these vids. I like it!! Although I didn't realize how twitchy my car is on other screens, I'm running so much smoother on my own TV...

Something else too, that race that I had to drop out of a few laps in to go get my kid, do I get no points for a DNF, or do I get last place?
