Cars should be "Race Modified" for the series. This can be done in "GT Auto". Please note DO NOT PAINT YOUR CAR UNTIL AFTER IT'S BEEN "RACE MODIFIED" otherwise you will lose your paint scheme. All cars are white after the "Race Modifications" however you can paint RM cars and change/paint their rims.

We will also be using racing #s for this series, 00-99 (I call # 26) You can change your # when your car is selected in your Garage.
Please let me know ASAP if you are driving the STi or the Evo and your car #. First come first serve!

The majority of the tracks will be tarmac however we will have dirt & snow tracks, thus you will need Racing Hard, Dirt and Snow tires for this series,

-No ASM
-No Skid Recovery Force
-No Active Steering
-Tire Restrictions (Racing Hard / Dirt / Snow)
-Weight Restrictions (None)
-HP Restrictions (None)

TCS & ABS will be permitted
False Starts will be enabled
Driving Live will not be permitted
Off Track Grip will be set to Real
Penalties will be set to None
Damage will be set to Low

The first race of the night will be a random grid. The following races will all be reverse grid based on the previous race results.

Here is the point structure for the AARC:

Code:

Bluetooth Headsets Strongly Recommended!

I can't stress that enough! Any Bluetooth headset will work, just make sure to pair it with your PS3. Futureshop has a good selection as well.

I did some tests tonight after our racing and I think we may need to remove the restrictions on HP and weight for these races. I think the Evo's AYC gives it a clear advantage over the STi when the restrictions are in effect. Removing the restrictions resulted in much closer lap times (with the Evo still quicker).

I plan to do more tests this weekend, and I've asked another member to try their own tests to verify my initial findings.

Please if you have the Cr and time, fully mod both cars and test them on tarmac, snow and dirt. Try them HP and weight limited (510hp 1080kg) and no restrictions. I only tried on tarmac (Eiger Nordwand Short Track), but I bet the difference is even more apparent on snow and/or dirt.

Lastly see if the Evo's AYC can be disabled, and if so try driving without it and see if it makes a difference.

I'll be testing these this weekend, but I'm curious as to what others find.

After a few hours of testing over this weekend and last night I've decided to remove the HP and weight restrictions to both vehicles for the races.

In testing last night with Varga, Steve and Ming, I've also decided to remove the penalties and add in it's place "low damage". IE damage that will repair after 5-10 seconds.

The issue is with the penalty system right now is if a car goes sideways it "ghosts" IE other cars can pass right through it. Not that bad for tarmac stuff, but in rally (snow/dirt) you're sideways 1/2 the time. :)

The damage system will mainly affect cars that ram into other cars. Damage will be repaired within 5-10 seconds and hopefully will force others to drive with care. Also note that if you're the car being rammed, chances are you will take no damage if hit in the sides or rear. The car hitting you however will take suspension and probably engine damage.

The racing line will also be disabled for this series, so practice and learn the tracks.

Finally as announced last night there will be prize cars awarded for the series. One for overall champion and one for random and/or most improved over the series.

could we leave the driving line enabled. I don't have the luxury of practicing very often. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Thanks.

i used to use the driving line all the time. But youll find that your times will become faster. if your worried about the braking points they are still indicated by the flashing downshift indicator.

i too don't have alot of time to practice but my times have been a bit faster without the driving line.

Try it You'll like it

We had some issues tonight.... with disconnects and the cars.

Saw this on the PSN website.

Quote:

***PlayStation Network Down on March 3, 2011***
Answer ID: 312 Product: PlayStation®Network-Network Status

The PlayStation Network is currently down on Thursday, March 3, 2011.

So that explains the drops.

A few people are disliking the differences between the cars, and one or two are disliking the dirt, snow and rain. Please voice your thoughts/opinions here.

I guess that proves that even if the racing is FREE you can't make everyone happy. :?

I admit it was different, (with the exception of the last race, which was wet and I believe my tire choice let me play in the front of the pack) I found myself in the mid pack or even rear of the pack... a place over the last two series I didn't see much. But it was fun and I had some good racing back there.

Personally I thought the choice of two different but (IMHO fairly equal) cars would be fun. Along with dirt and snow just to mix it up a bit.... keep it interesting.

Once the PSN co-operates I'm going to share online a fully spec'd STi and Evo. Please feel free to borrow them and test both.

Cars are too different.
If we all had the same one, perfect, but this can't work as-is.
I like the snow/rain/dirt personally, but we need to be in similar performing cars for this to be any fun.
The farther we get away from a "spec" car, the worse the racing gets.

I couldn't get the evo much better with any type of setup I tried and I tried a lot of different stuff.

Like I said I'm going to share both an STi and Evo online and you can test both. Please reserve judgment until you've driven both cars.
I think the cars are much closer than you think.

If anyone would like to switch cars please feel free.

As usual I am unable to sleep due to pain......pills wearoff..I wake up....more pills please!!!!!

As far as tonight's exhibition races go, I feel that personal bests during a race are a good comparison……

Following review of all the replays tonights best lap times per track are as follows up to 6th place in finishing order:

Did everyone check their downforce settings?

STI has 15 front and 35 rear and so does the EVO

Cape Ring
Varga 1:33.332 STI
Joel 1:35.410 STI
Paul 1:35.619 EVO
Jason 1:36.297 STI
Taylor 1:37.309 EVO
Ming 1:40.573 EVO

I used a fully spec’d EVO after tonights meet and ran Cape ring in Merlins Lounge
I was within 1:33.430 to 1:34’s With Stage 2 and 3 Turbo’s. The AYC has to be set to 130 to reduce undesteer

ROME

Joel 1:09.429 STI
Varga 1:08.552 STI
Paul 1:09.817 EVO
John 1:11.020 EVO
Steve 1:10.812 EVO
Jason 1:12.082 STI

Toscana Dirt

Varga 1:48.553 STI
Paul 1:48.705 EVO
Jason 1:55.279 STI
Joel 1:49.598 STI
Taylor 1:50.970 EVO
Ming 1:56.624 EVO

Suzuka Rain

Joel 2:25.429 STI full rain
Varga 2:23.430 STI Inter’s
Jason 2:27.115 STI Inter’s
Aleksander 2:31.795 EVO ?? tires
Jay 2:33.114 EVO ?? tires
Steve 2:27.554 EVO ?? tires

I am going to run the EVO at the next exhibition races

I'm sorry the PSN was still acting up this morning and I couldn't share the STi and Evo online.... I'll try again tonight.

If the cars are so uneven, why did more people pick the Evo? (8 Evo's vs 5 STi's)

In the Spec BMW series and the SuperGT series, 90% of the time the top four finishers were Varga, Paul, Joel and myself. In the results Varga posted above (except for my poor performance at Rome) it was the same top four finishers as the other two series.

The only difference being Varga is bloody quick in the AWD. Joel's & Paul's lap times are both very close and they are in different cars.

In the BMW (and probably the SuperGT) I was always at least within a 1/2 second of the best lap times during a race. But as you can see I did quite poorly in my lap times above. Varga is WAY ahead of the rest of the pack, even those driving the same car (including myself & Joel).

I would say that right now it looks like the AWD cars suit Varga very well and the rest of us have some work to do (practice, learning the tracks, car setup, etc) to catch up.

I Felt that the cars were fairly close with the exception that the Evo seems alot faster to top speed as in the case that Jason and I exited the last corner of Cape Ring side by side and I drove away like he was parked. (I had some issues with it as I was braking too late but thats just me  )

I do have to say that I would likely benefit from having a wheel as I found a two things things: those who could modulate the throttle (ie: pedals) were far faster than me exiting corners (I am using a controller) and I think that the steering input is likely far more easily controlled when using the wheel (and easier on the thumbs  )

Taylor you're not kidding, you flew past me.... I had the same problem against Ming's Evo in Rome, we'd go into the corner, I felt like I had a much better line and exit speed, but Ming would just fly by me like I was stopped.

If it wasn't for you guys missing your braking points (thanks btw ;) ) I would never have passed you. Paul also complained about the Evo's brakes in the rain against Joel....maybe there's something there. I know I had to adjust my brake bias several times over the night to try to keep the STi balanced.

So maybe the STi is faster into the corner and the Evo is quicker exiting the corner. Either way I had very close racing against Taylor and Ming in their Evo's.

Not to open another can of worms but what did everyone think of the dirt/rain? Was two "low grip" races per night too much? (I already know Steve's vote :) )

If what Varga said about the AYC (whatever that is) is true, that it has to be at 130, this is a potential problem with the EVO, mine was set completely in the other direction. The car was just about undriveable.
I am usually fast in the rain, last night I just gave up on it, car was stupid useless.

However If the cars are the same as is, as you suggest, then I guess I started to suck overnight.

Paul,

Two things about AYC...

1st - AYC is "Active Yaw Control"
Quote:
Active Yaw Control (AYC) uses a torque transfer mechanism in the rear differential to control rear wheel torque differential for different driving conditions and so limit the yaw moment that acts on the vehicle body and enhance cornering performance. AYC also acts like a limited slip differential by suppressing rear wheel slip to improve traction. In its latest form, AYC now features yaw rate feedback control using a yaw rate sensor and also gains braking force control. Accurately determining the cornering dynamics on a realtime basis, the system operates to control vehicle behavior through corners and realize vehicle behavior that more closely mirrors driver intent.

Here's the full Wikipedia entry on it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_S-AWC

2nd - In the 1.06 update there was a specific fix for the AYC
Quote:
The “S-AWC” integrated four wheel drive system of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution has been adjusted.

Also I don't think it's because you started to suck overnight. I think Varga is just that much quicker (I know he'd fail a drug test). Your lap times were still much quicker than mine and on par with Joel's.
In Suzuka it was all about tire choice. I think inter's were the best choice of tire for the start of the race, but Joel flew away from us once the rain got harder on his full wets. I bet you would have done the same if you had remained in the race.

I think that one low friction race per night is good.
I think that the STI should be equalized with the EVO in weight.

I think that the first meet with any new series (unless all are the same car), should be an exhibition to promote our vehicle equalization efforts.

Last night was just that.....Who knew what AYC's 30 to 130 meant??

With the EVO at Cape ring I did a few laps with AYC at 30 and that sucked!!

Then at the other end of the spectrum at 130 I ran a few more laps and was 3 seconds faster!! And this is after knowing the track well with both cars.

I like the this AWD challenge for the sake of nostalgia.
If we had an ALL STI or all EVO race...the differences would still be large enough...simply because these cars need time to suit to your driving style...and the track.

I have been playing this GAME for a very long time.....I was fast 10 yrs ago (GT1) or when ever it came out?.......

I just used the STI at Cape Ring. I quoted Varga's post to show my times from last night in the EVO. I have a little extra time on my hands right now so I decided to give it a try and see what happens. With little changes to the way the car came to me I was able to run a 1:35.578 with the STI. The biggest thing I will mention is that the EVO does obliterate the STI heading onto the strait. (Jason and I proved this last night exiting the last corner of Cape Ring)

IMO the STI is a much nicer car to drive. It has WAY better brakes, is much more neutral on entrance, through the apex and on exit. (When you turn in it turns in.... what a concept  ) Also I found it to be much more stable when cornering at high speed.

All I did to the car was put a basic set-up on the suspension. I didn't touch the Yaw controller. I also ran with all driving aids off other than T/C at 1.

Biggest thing I Can suggest is that as Jason said try both cars and see which one suits your own personal driving style. It isn't too late to change. :)

Hope this helps the cause.

I now have a fully spec'd STi and Evo shared online.
Please feel free to conduct your own tests.

Again, if you'd like to change your car for the next race, please feel free.
Choose whatever car suits your driving style.

I bought the Sti and tried both, with multiple setups.
Back to back.
STi brakes and turns better, EVO has better exit and power.
STi is WAY easier to drive fast, and easier to be consistent in, but I could go quicker in the EVO, just slightly.
Did a 1:33.3 at Cape, in EVO with a couple sectors in the 32's but could not hang on to it.
I went 2+ sec faster with that AYTSHFASR or whatever it is, set the other way, instantly.

I absolutely hate both cars, understeery, they rachet through corners, no finesse. I find them both frustrating as hell and zero fun to drive.
Funny thing is, STi's are the same in real life!

I'm hesitant to comment, since I really haven't done any practice nor have I set my car up properly (HP?).

However, I will say that the EVO had understeer that I could not get rid of with suspension changes. I had to add some AYC to get rid of it. 90 seemed to be acceptable; 130 resulted in a lot of ratcheting rotation (YAW)...but that was okay for the dirt track.

If I could, I'd like to look at your EVO, Jason...

So what I'm hearing both cars have their pros and cons but are fairly equal.

I dont mind the car that much, its a big pig and hates coming out of turns. i turned my rear brake up so it turns into the corners but it kills rear tires.lol.
For the rain event i think a lot of people were just pushing to hard. i had to back way off in the corners, and it would just spin like crazy out of some.
I really dont play with set-up that much, i put 2KG more in the springs and made the rear bar stiffer then the front, areo up all the way, and i keep the trans at 290KPH or if its a dirt track 250KPH. i figure the less i mess with the settings the better ill be with the car. I dont get to practice, so I dont have time to try out both cars, but everyone buys STI's. lol.

Hmmm...for some reason, my engine tune will not 'take'. I cannot install it.

I think I've tried both before and after mods...

I've tried going to the 'Items' menu and installing it there...no luck.

I'm stuck at 460 HP...
