The Porsche doesn't need a lot of massaging to make work. If you find one good baseline setup you can usually run it everywhere. That's why it's pretty popular in iracing, easy to run and setup doesn't usually make or break your race.

I haven't noticed much difference in the setups I've tried. Didn't look that closely at them either so they could have been all fairly close anyway. But I need some excuse to explain why Dave was so much faster at Spa. :D

That's quite a commitment Scott. Best of luck.

Interlaos rsults posted.

Congrats to Trevor on the wins. Good to see Trevor and Jay back on track.

Both fun races for me. Had to fight off Randy (really need him to put a clinic on how to launch these cars) and Art in the first few corners then went a bit wide half a lap later to give 2nd place to Art. Thought he was going to give it back near the end of the lap with a big power slide but he manged to hold it. The gap would close and open again as overworked the tires and had to back off again. On the final lap Art was a little cautious at the bottom of the hill and I got a good run at him to finish less than 0.1s behind

Tried Art's setup for the second qualifying session, and while it was faster I could only get one quick lap out of it and the rear tires would go off. Went back to my setup for the race, and after fending off Randy and Art once again, settled in behind Trevor. This time tried to be a little easier on the tires and not push as hard on braking and less stomping on the throttle. Tires seemed to hold up much better and there were a few times Trevor came back to me, though never got a chance to try for a pass. Curious to see that the top 3 fastest laps from the second race were less than 0.05s apart.

BTW the setup I used at WG and this race were named Joshua-Eiffert_17S4 (used his Imola setup for Interlagos, and will likely try it next week). Hope to see you at Monza.

Monza results posted.

Trevor with the wins last night.

Finishing order was the same for both race but they played out quite differently. In Race 1 Trevor and Mark set off never to be seen again. I messed up braking for one of the chicanes early on and ended up in the gravel after bouncing over the curbs. Chased down Steve and had a late braking contest with him into the parabolica. Was making some progress on Art but wasn't looking likely I'd catch him until found him setting up a road block in the lesmos. Mangled a front fender but the car drove ok for the last couple laps.

Race 2 Mark fell asleep at the start and then had to go offroad to avoid creating a pileup at the first chicane. Art dropped back after a spin so watched Mark make his way back through the field. He eventually caught me and a small mistake in the parabolica was all he needed to make a clean pass on the front straight. Thought he'd pull away but managed to keep him honest. At one point we miscued on our braking into the last chicane and after a 0X contact both spun. We got underway again just a few seconds ahead of Art. Was hoping to get another chance on the final lap but I made a small mistake in the lesmos so we finished about a second apart.

Suzuka next week.

Have I mentioned I'm still getting used to the brakes? Middle pedal works ok but your rear bumper will work even better!

Suzuka results were posted last week, and last night's Okayama results are now up. Good to see Steve hasn't been last, even when Jay isn't there.

Last night Steve, Art, and Randy mixed things up in the first race. In the second I gave Art a good chase, even including nudging him out of the way once ( it didn't even give a Ox contact).

Just Road Atlanta and the Ring left to go this season.

Steve and I had a good time at Suzuka, last week. I'm at sea now, but I should be back for next Wednesday night.

Road Atlanta results posted. Trevor with the wins.

Delay of game for some of us while downing a few GB of updates. Race 1 started off fairly steady once Steve and Randy got sorted out, then Art dropped back to give Steve a hard time. Second race Steve qualified P2 so Art and I gave close chase for the first 5 laps. Steve ran a little wide near the cross road, Art went left , I went right which left Steve in the middle going down the straight. Just after I hit the brakes I saw Art's car fly past on the grass. Seems Steve tried to go left as well resulting in Art on the grass and Steve having a spin. After that things were less exciting. Watched the replay from Steve's cockpit view and can't tell there are cars near him just from the mirrors and forward view (and that is with 3 screens and 130 FOV). Steve, if you don't already, enable the virtual mirror and set its FOV big enough to see cars on your rear quarter panels. It's like using a wide angle rearview mirror vs the stock mirror in a real car.

The Ring next week which wraps up the season. Anyone try the new Beetle? Did a couple laps at Charlotte in it after the race last night... 160 mph in a beetle just doesn't seem right. ;-) Might be worth trying a fun run or two with it during the break.

I knew you guys would be on me after I ran wide, I just didn't spot either of you at all and I was fairly mid track so I wanted to be left. Sucks because I was having prob my best run in a while. I'm starting to get my pace up so now I need to work on my awareness. I am actually running a VR headset now and just use the car mirrors. I am constantly playing with it for framerate and options and black box locations. I'll try messing with the mirrors before the ring. Between having a pc that can do more than 40fps and the brake pedal mod and the vr, it has really helped my overall experience. It was painful in the past to judge distances and braking with the old setup.

Sorry I wasn't there to 'help' you, Steve...lol. I still have my sea legs and my contractor took over my computer room. He's done tomorrow.

VR headset...cool.

See you next week.

Got the mirror all squared away. Need to play with the settings to get it so cars don't appear further back when they are right on your tail. Nordschleife was very unforgiving to me lol. Gonna be a tough one.

Ring results posted.

Trevor with the wins. That makes him 10 for 10 this season. Good to have Paul back.

The Ring was fun as always. First race I kept Trevor in sight while Steve, Art and Paul got themselves sorted. After the first lap Paul seemed to be keeping pace but was over 10s back. Tires seemed go off a bit on the last lap so backed off and lost sight of Trevor.

Second race Trevor slid off the track and bounced off the armco somewhere after Flugplatz on the opening lap. His car didn't seem bad in the corners but was down on top speed. Just followed him until the long straight and then motored by. He ducked in the pits for the repairs so I had a 9s lead on Art with Trevor about 20s back after the first lap. Figured I was good until I went off in the same place as Trevor. :-P Car didn't handle well at all after that. Art went by and then he spun a couple corners later to let Trevor and I by, and Trevor was soon past. So that was 3 lead changes in about 15s. Another bounce off the wall and I had to call for a tow. Came out of the pits over a minute behind the pack, but about 30s ahead of Paul who had a lengthy tow on the first lap. Slowed down until he was about 2s back and then made a race of it for the last 2 laps. Pace was fairly even and he was only 1s back at the finish. Fun stuff.

Time to kick around ideas for next season. There was talk of GRC cars (and growing potatoes) in the post race chat. If you have some ideas for next season please let us know. Also if a different night would work better for you in the new year please let us know. Stay tuned for fun run events over the holidays.

Thanks to everyone that came out to play this season. Hope to see a few more of you next season.

The Wednesday works well for me, I could may be do Tues, but I don't think the night is the problem from this forum. Paul finally dusted off his wheel, Brian is homeless, Jay is on a boat, and Scott is too good for us. Not sure who else to expect from this group.

I like GT cars, I find the rally stuff very arcady, I would find another place/night if that was the choice. We could do an imsa type series or keep it spec, just use good circuits.

Sorry I missed a lot of this series...i'm not normally at sea in Oct - Dec. I will be around for the next couple of series.

Like Steve, I prefer road racing. I really enjoy the formula cars and I enjoy the GT cars. Ken has done a good job of picking good series with fun tracks. The rally cross stuff does look interesting, but I haven't tried it yet. I read an article with Scott Speed discussing his input into the VW Beetle GRC. May be a fun run...

Wednesdays work for me. Tuesdays work too.

Thanks,

I'll be back to running in the league as soon as I (inevitably) fail at getting my Pro/WC licence. Our final qualifier event is Jan 20th.

Fun Run 1 Wed Dec 20

Just for something a little different going to try the Beetle and Fiesta on a few short road tracks (Note these are paved tracks, not Rallycross circuits). Three 10 minute sprints with a short practice and qual session before each one:

Track, Start time (EST/AST), Prac length, Qual, Race
Summit Jefferson 7:00/8:00, 30, 5,10
Daytona 2007 Short 7:40/8:40, 20, 5, 10
Charlotte Infield 8:10/9:10, 20, 5, 10

The sessions should show up as a single event under league sessions. If I've got the timing right that should give 10-15 minutes of practice for the second and third sessions. Note the tracks get tighter and more confined as we go (Jefferson has a few straights, Charlotte infield is almost like an AutoX course with lots of cones and barrels, Daytona 07 Short is in between but beware the wall of death - you'll know what I mean when you hit it). Lap times should be in the 40-50s range.

Holiday Fun Run 2

Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays.

Who is up for some RallyCross either tonight or tomorrow night? We can set up some sessions for the 2 Daytona 07 RallyX courses and the Phoenix RallyX couse with the Beetle and Fiesta. Same schedule as last week (10 minute races), but will put in a couple Joker laps each race. Not sure I'm available either night as yet, but if there are enough that want to give it a try it's no problem to set them up. Just let us know if you are in and which night (s) work for you.

Merry Christmas! After Steve's positive comments about a VR headset, my wheels are turning. Interesting.

I'm not available tonight, but I think I'm available tomorrow night.

Cheers!

I'll be back next week.

Jay, ask Phil what he thought of the VR. It's really good, not good enough to make me any good at iracing, but it doesn't make me any worse lol

Fun Run 3

Still putting the next series together, so we are going to have another Fun Run tomorrow night (Wed). Same format as last week: "We can set up some sessions for the 2 Daytona 07 RallyX courses and the Phoenix RallyX course with the Beetle and Fiesta. Same schedule as last week (10 minute races), but will put in a couple Joker laps each race."

For the season we are thinking GT3 cars (which now includes the Ferrari 488 for those looking for something new). Might look at throwing a new track into the mix as well as the official series uses Oulton Park, Oran Park, Bathurst, Sebring, and Nurburg combined. Any favourites in that list you would like to see added?

I'm down for some GT racing. I like the mix of circuits. Is there one car in the group that dominates the rest or are they fairly well
balanced out of the box? My heart says Z4 but I don't want a car that puts me another step behind.

I like the Z4, it seems shorter and more twitchy than some of the others, which I like, I am usually quicker in it than the others, but I have not tried the 488.

I didn't like the 488, I didn't like the gearing or power band. The Z4 is nice because it is fun to drive, sounds good, and really winds out. I've spent a bunch of time driving the GT1 Aston Martin, now that is a fun car to drive. Great power, great sound, and really good handling.
