I am completely the opposite, I love the challenge of learning a new car/track on the fly.

After winning 8 of the 12 FR2 races Scott, I'm not sure anyone is going to be too willing to do anything that helps you out.

GT3 Road America Results Posted

Congrats to Trevor on the wins. Despite not being at Road America last night Scott takes the GT3 Championship, though it was a close one. Trevor's 2 wins last night (8 wins in his 8 GT3 appearances!) puts him 1 point behind Scott, and Art with two 2nd places last night ends up just 4 points back. Well done to all 3.

Though the top 5 in both races last night were the same(Trevor, Art, me, Brian, Randy) they were very different races for me. The first one started off with John and I side by side for the first half a lap,and while we were dicing Brian tripped over me which sent me back to last place. Gained about 4 spots back within the next lap as chased down Dave and others went off. Took a few more laps to chase Randy down. John dropped back for a while and was keeping me honest and then Brian also dropped back. Based on the radio chatter they had an issue so it was just putting in laps at the end with Trevor and Art well out ahead.

Second race I slotted in behind Trevor and Art with Brian chasing. Think I messed up Brian in tlast at one point as looked like he went off trying to avoid hitting me under braking. After that was watching Trevor and Art chase each other from about 2 s back. Had a couple looks when one of them would get held up, but decided my chances were better if let them go at it. Around lap 8 I lost my front row seat as went wide in the carousel (marbles?).

That wraps up both series for this season. Thanks to everyone that came out to play. Still time to get your 2 cents in for what to run next season. Stay tuned for the fun runs in the next few weeks. Based on chat after the race last night next week is looking like the Audi 90 GTO at the Ring, with the GT1 cars thrown in (if you have suggestions as to what would mix well with the Audi let us know).

Another great series, Ken. Thanks for organizing.

I had trouble finding a set up that I liked for the BMW at this track. I ended up using one of Scott's old set ups for some other track. I think lots of front brake bias helps here.

I qualified okay for both races (behind Brian). During the first race, I had a better start then him. But at the second corner, he went for the corner as I turned in. During the second race, I jumped the start and had to serve a black flag. By that race, I was pretty comfortable with the car set up and managed 2:08.5 or something. Looking at the fastest lap times during the race, it was faster than Brian's...so it gives me some hope with these GT3 cars! Brian was trying the Merc last night, so maybe it wasn't the best car for him.

Looking forward to the next series. Again, my preference would be formula cars...F Renault 3.5? I would also enjoy a new GT car and some more uncommon tracks. A series at the 'ring again would be great too.

Wow, that was close indeed! Image

Trevor would have had it though had he not missed so many races.

Hey guys, I popped in here a while back, but you guys were in the middle of an iRacing season and so was I. Now that we're heading into a new season and I'm looking for something fresh, I just registered here and am looking to run a season with you guys if you'll have me. I live in Fredericton and figured it'd be fun racing with some local fellow iRacers. Maybe some of you can talk me into a Miata this year, too old and sore from and for Motocross now, the Rhino is a blast, but the Miata has been on my mind for a few years....

Interested to see what you guys are thinking of for the next season. I'll keep checking back in to see over the next week or so.

Lefty

Fairly certain we'll run the FR2 again for one series. The question is what to do for the second series.

The league can be found at http://members.iracing.com/membersite/m ... league=177
If you are around the next few weeks drop in for one of the fun runs (Audi 90 GTO and...(Riley, L49, RUF track?) at the Ring this Wednesday).

iRacing Miata or real Miata? We support all kinds of addictions. :orglaugh:

I'm guessing he means road racing a Miata at AMP.
Welcome Andy! Come join us online next Wed night. :)

Well if he's crazy enough to run a real Miata then he should fit right in to the league.

Feel free to sign up just for the fun runs for now if you want, then decide if you want to run the series in the new year.

PS if real Miata then drop me an pm/email.

Yeah, I'd love to try Road Racing a Miata or maybe just time trials to start? I love racing it and the other momentum cars on iRacing, Door to Door, Close Racing...Good Stuff.... The Skip and MX5 are a few of my favs. Of course a big fan of the GT3s and GT1s, Recently raced the V8SC and enjoyed the challenge. I never got along with the original DP and I haven't enough seat time in the C7 DP to say I like it yet, but I find it much more predictable than the Riley. I was a Ruf Track Junkie when I started iRacing. I haven't raced the faster open wheel cars, I may have to run a few laps in the FR2 to see what its like.

So do you guys run two series at the same time or split the season in half and run 2?

Wow 13th of 3K plus Racers in the FR2, That's pretty impressive Scott. Damn! Curious to how you know my name, I don't even race under Andy.... Have we met or raced online together? I'm terrible with names sorry.

We run 2 series at the same time, alternate weeks. So it will be two 20 minute races for series A one Wednesday, then two 20 minute races for series B the next Wednesday, rinse and repeat.

If you liked the skippy then the FR2 should be a good fit.

Lapping and time trials are a good place to start if you haven't been around AMP before. But there have been a few people that have jumped right into racing. iRacing experience will help. Look for the lapping (HPDE) and race schools next May.

I like it, cool schedule. Would be good practice for me as I prefer a longer race, it takes me a bit to settle in and set my pace, 20 Minute Sprints, You'd have to be on at the drop of the flag!

Race School, that'd be cool, didn't know it was offered around here. I have no real world experience racing cars, took in a couple Kart training courses in California on a vacation. Other than that, about 3 years of steady iRacing. I prefer to run with a group, I've raced in the official series in a few cars, but prefer to race with a good group of friends that try and drive by the racing code. I'm not leaving the current group of guys I'm with, I may run some races with them this season, but like I said, just looking for something different for now and I figured I'd come on over here and see what you guys were up to for the winter season.

If the FR2 is like the skip in any way, yeah I'll be on for those 20 minute dash for cash races! Sounds like fun. And then to race a different car the following week keeps it interesting for sure.

I'll be keeping any eye on here for fun runs and news for next season, meanwhile, I may introduce myself to the FR. Cheers

Thanks. Makes me wonder where I would have placed if I had actually put effort into the first half of the season. 8)

I looked at your profile and saw "Andy McFarlane" in your email address.

Just as an FYI, we use our real names as our profile names here. Makes it much easier to know who is who in these forums, on iRacing, and in-person.

How does the Audi 90 compare to the GT3 cars? I suspect its a bit, or maybe a lot, slower?

Trevor did a quick test with the 90 and thought it would be close to the GT3s. Hopefully there will be mostly Audi 90, we just threw the GT3s in as filler.

I think it was kinda me that suggested another car mostly cause i thought for a fun race it would be nice to have alternatives to buying another car right now (that i'll probably never use again). If you're concerned the gt3 cars will be too fast the caddy or the mx5 would be cool. They're slower cars and wouldn't interfere too much with the main event GT's. just a thought. What ever you all do is cool. I'll be out for the shenanigans one way or anther tonight.

Also. I had a lot of fun this past season. You guys are a ton of fun to run with and I'm very much looking forward to the next. From the odd guy out who doesn't race in real life i feel like I'm finally getting up to speed and making solid improvements and hope to continue in future seasons.

See you guys tonight. :D

FYI, the 17S1 build has been released and it's a big one. So it may take a while to update your sim before you can join the league sessions tonight.

Good fun last night. The Audi 90 and GT3 cars were similar in lap times (good call Trevor) but it was really a contest between handling and power. The Audi was about 20 mph faster in top speed but it wasn't as composed in the corners as the GT3 cars. Don't know if the RUF changed but it seemed better behaved, and like the new tire sounds. Unfortunately I didn't get much time to compare the two cars. Forgot about the season build update and had to wait for the download/install and joined partway through qualifying. Then had an issue in the first lap of both races that required hobbling around to the pits. In the second one drove around with the wheel laid over almost full lock to get the car to go straight (shifted hand positions but then couldn't reach the paddle shifters :-P ).

So what to do next week? Nissan GTP at the Ring (C7 DP and Riley to go along with it)? Shout out if you have ideas.

I figured it was by email....but your name does sound familiar...musta been when I was trolling you guys (kidding) I knew I had read about going by your own names when I checked you guys out about a year back or so...I've gone by lefty for 20 years :) You won't even see andy when I get a chance to Join. My iracing account is under Dave...haha. So whatever ya wanna call me, makes no matter to me hah

Wasn't able to run the fun run, when does your season start? and do you guys know what the second car is going to be? Season with the other league I run with starts tomorrow night, we split up the season with cars as well, but differently, the first 4 races are fixed in the C7 DP, then another bunch of races in GT3 and probably a few fun runs in there.

BTW looks like we're doing another fun run at the Ring tonight, this time with IMSA prototypes (Rilley/caddy/Nissan).

Still haven't decided on a car for the second series. Probably start the first Wednesday in January.

Thanks to whomever for accepting my league request in time. I ran the C7DP at Motegi GP last night and ran the R8 at the Ring last week...I figured how different can it be...That C7 had my hands full, Set was made for Motegi, so I didn't expect much, it was fast, but I just kept making mistakes pushing too hard making up for mistakes...hah. Anyways, thanks for the fun run! I'll see yas in the next one! Merry Xmas!

No problem Lefty/Andy/Dave. Glad you could join the second race. I noticed your league application after the first race session had already started.

For those not om the Regulars email list...

So I’ll say up front we’re not sure if this is a good idea or a symptom of Eggnog poisoning but we thought we’d throw it out there over the holidays and see how much lead is in the balloon.

Those of you old enough to remember our GPL league days (ironically that’s pretty much just Trevor) will remember the F3 cars all had the same spec engine but each chassis weighed/performed differently. We developed a handicapping system that put the fastest drivers in (for the most part) the heaviest cars by rewarding virtual prize money (virtual dollars, not real, not even iracing$) *inverse* to your finishing order. That way the vulture pack drive faster cars and the aliens have to work for their results. The idea was you drove the car you could afford to buy with your V$, aliens who routinely finished up front were normally broke, Bryan was always in the Brabham. See the old rules for a full explanation: http://users.hfx.eastlink.ca/~mackaypen ... oints.html

With 5 prototypes in iracing (if you include the Radical) there are almost enough to do something similar. Data mining through the world records and averaging out the times for LRP, Mosport, Leguna, Elkhart, Road Atlanta, Sebring to assign values you get something like:

HPD $10
Nissan $7 (106% of the Honda times)
C7 $3 (113%)
Riley $3 (113%)
Radical $0 (114.5%)

I took the 10th fastest race lap for each to discount the true aliens, surprisingly the Riley is faster than the C7 some places and vice versa.

Of course the added wrinkle with iracing is if you don’t want to buy (with real $) the car you can afford with V$, just run what you got and take the points hit.

Crazy? Good idea? Lost you? Crickets? Anyway, back to the Eggnog.
