I agree. I hit maybe a couple cones all weekend, but my lines were inconsistent and my times were never where I had hoped. It was humbling to get beaten on raw times by 'slower' prepped cars where drivers were clearly much better.

The courses were awesome, and I hope we can incorporate some similar ideas/elements into our courses here.

Results posting was one minor sore area, but not the biggest deal for me. The only other input i'd bring up is the size of the cones. I'm sheltered, so i don't know if other clubs normally use such big/hard cones on courses. I've never gotten anything more than a scuff with the small cones ASCC uses, and it was always superficial. I hit one cone sunday with my drivers door and ended up getting some pretty bad damage :(

ASCC cones are definitely on the smaller side compared to most clubs that I've seen, especially the brand new ones we just got.

On the second day I noticed a laptop that had the timing spreadsheet up, I was looking at that to verify cone penalties. Never once got live timing to connect. I will say that's one thing MMSC does really well - announce the times & pylon penalties as you are leaving the stopbox.

Our runs from the event:

Day 1: We definitely left some time on the table. I nailed the huge sweeper into the "straight" and gained tons of time on Ben, only to throw it away by running wide in the sweeper at the opposite end. Ben had me by 1.3 seconds since I coned the final run.

Day 2: Pretty consistent all day. We were both tenths off our best time by the 2nd run, and ended the day about 3 tenths apart with the 4th runs being the best.

As Carl mentioned the surface grip changed a fair bit through the first day. I was worried about how the car felt saturday morning, but in the afternoon it was just hooked up everywhere.

As everyone said, great event. Start to finish. I was wondering how it all would work out, but they truly knew what was going on. I like to call it controlled caouse. lol. Asphalt was different, but was super fun to drive on. So smooth. Course was soooo nice. Everything worked. The 2 runs at a time worked great in the heat. Making working much nicer as well. The awards were the best I have ever been to. He really could be a comedian. So much fun. For the people who did not go, You really missed out.

I came second in class to a super nice fella. lol. Who happen to have a very nice little civic. Only problem was he made 152 WHP, while I am stuck at 92 WHP.
But loosing could not outweigh the amount of fun i had over the 3 days.

Will definitely be back up if they do a national event again. Hoping ill have a better preped setup by then as well. As Blu says Second sucks.

Here are my two bests. Like everyone has been saying, awesome event and well worth the trip. Everything went so smooth, the only hiccup was the live timing, but it wasn't really all that big of a deal.

Sat run 3

Sun run 3

It seems many of my comments and compliments have already been voiced, but I will simply say I was very impressed with how this event turned out and definitely happy I made the trip.
After sorting out my number (which had been changed on account of a competitor who had ended up cancelling), the weekend ran quite smoothly.
Could not have asked for better weather! I think CADL made a very good decision regarding run orders, making conditions as fair as possible and keeping the days efficient. I found I was able to make my first pass to sort things out in my head, push it on the second pass, and then had time to reflect on what did and did not work before running out to chase cones, then had time to get back in "the zone" before laying down 2 passes that counted.
Kudos to the organizers, volunteers and fellow competitors for making this such a great event. I really enjoyed the chance to learn more about my driving compared to others', meet new people, share in their experiences, and set new goals!
My times weren't great, but I wasn't surprised. It seems that little fear of speed I had when I first started autoslalom managed to creep back in my way when I hit such a quick, open course layout. Once I made the decision to just put my foot down, I had a lot of fun.
So with that, please enjoy the one cone I hit all weekend. Last run of the last day. Typical.
