I've done commentary before. I wouldn't mind doing it if they are missing someone.... but I prefer racing

Congrats to David and Scott on the wins last night. Also Congrats to Jeff Johnson the series championship with a win and 8 top 5 finishes. Think a saw at least one more ARMS member in the field last night.

Rough night for me. Got caught out bouncing over the curbs a couple times in the first race but had a good fight with Keith and towards the end John was applying pressure. Second race was being much more careful and was sitting in 4th at 2/3rds distance with Paul catching me. Then the backend snapped around just starting on the downhill run and ended up on my side against a wall. Watched the replay a couple times and still not sure why it broke loose. After a long tow back the pit finished near last.

That wraps up both series for this season. We'll kick off another season on Jan 6th with the GT3 cars and Start Mazdas. Should have a schedule ready shortly. In the meantime grab a partner and join us next week for another team event. Same format as last time but at Road Atlanta short course and in the MX5s (either MX5, open setups, 80 minute race, 2 drivers, two 20 minute stints each (3 swaps), standard weather).

Thanks to everyone for being part of the past season. Great to have big fields with drivers you can trust. Hope we will see you again next season and have a few more join in.

Congrats Jeff! And a big welcome to Shawn.

Great fun last night. Race 1 I inherited 2nd when Jim spun at T10 on the opening lap. Then I did the same thing a few laps later. Went nose-first into the wall and lost my hood. Re-entered the track in P5, and battled with Jon the rest of the race. I had good speed in the twisty bits, but Jon would catch back up on the straights. Started reeling in Paul on the last couple laps, but he held his P2 and I finished P3 with Jon in P4.

http://members.iracing.com/membersite/m ... d=12516997

Race 2 opening lap Brian & I had a tight battle for P3. I got past him going into T10, then were side-by-side going through T2/T3, and had a 0x contact (my fault). After that Brian dropped back a few seconds and Jim & I ran nose-to-tail until he let me by on lap 10. From there I held the lead to the checkered flag.

http://members.iracing.com/membersite/m ... d=12517275

Looking forward to next season. Great to see so many ARMS members participating in the league. Now we need to get Jarvis onboard.

We are planning on continuing with the same series for next season (GT3 and SM) and have mapped out a schedule that roughly follows the iracing series schedules (see below). We will fill in the last 8 weeks of the schedule once iracing releases their Season 2 schedule in March, but we're hoping to reuse some of the same venues from earlier in the season. There should be 20 races in each series, so we'll count the best 16 to allow for a couple missed events. Should stop in time for those that want to get out and drive in the real world.

Road Atlanta - Full Course SM Jan 6, 2015
Circuit Park Zandvoort - Grand Prix GT Jan 13, 2015
Circuit Gilles Villeneuve SM Jan 20, 2015
Virginia International Raceway - Full Course GT Jan 27, 2015
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course - Full Course SM Feb 3, 2015
Watkins Glen International - Boot GT Feb 10, 2015
Canadian Tire Motorsports Park SM Feb 17, 2015
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course - Full Course GT Feb 24, 2015
Silverstone Circuit - Grand Prix SM Mar 3, 2015
TBA GT Mar 10, 2015
TBA SM Mar 17, 2015

Woohoo I didn't finish last! Lol!

That track drives me nuts, I can't get a hang of the esses, but the rest of the track I felt ok.

I'll try to make it to more races next season, depending on my work schedule.

We have one driver looking for a team mate for the MX5 race tomorrow night at Road Atlanta short. He's the current GT3 champion (Jeff Johnson) so should be a good guy share a car with. If interested send me a PM and I'll send his email (or PM him on the iracing forum).

PS Shawn, good to see you join in.

At our club meeting tomorrow night, NBSCC members will be ghosting you on my rig (...so that they can take turns running around with you guys without causing mayhem 8) )

Maybe I can get a few hooked on iRacing that have more time to spend at it than I currently do

Nothing special I got to do for ghosting a team event is there?

Not sure, never tried it, but sounds as long as you can spectate then you should be able to ghost:
http://faq.iracing.com/article.php?id=151

You might want to make sure you are signed up as a league member. I'll check that the server is set to allow spectators. (Edit: just checked and the server is set so anyone can spectate - no spectator restrictions. So you should be good).

Thanks for doing this.

Stacy did you get connected to the server ok last night? Should have been a good show for the first dozen or so laps. There were 4-5 cars trading places (and a little paint) in the first stint.

We're thinking about holding another team event over the holidays, maybe a bit longer and with bigger teams. Stay tuned.

We joined in for the last half of the race right up till the checker.

Everybody had fun and I threw of few of the more smug guys into the Lotus 49 test mode after to bring them down a peg ...but after many, many offs at turn two Mosport they got the tires warmed up and they did very well

New Season starts tomorrow night (Tues. Jan 6).

Your league sessions page in iracing should now show events up until the first week in March. The remaining events for March and April will be added once we get a look iracings Season 2 schedule. The weather settings should match the iracing events (note the GT sessions seem to use the iracing default weather).

If you see any errors in the sessions please let me know.

Looking forward to another season.

Ken

The server started an hour early. We've corrected that and the server for Race 1 just started.

Sorry about the server time SNAFU, somehow I subtracted 90 minutes from 8:30 and got 6:00... (there's a reason I ask you guys to check this stuff  ) . Will get the times sorted for the rest of the scheduled races. Seeing as there were some that only raced the first 2 or the last 2 races we're letting the results of all 3 races count. We will still only count the best dozen or so races of the season so shouldn't make much difference in the final standings if you only did 2 of them.

Official scoring at
http://www.danlisa.com/scoring/season_standings.php?season_id=3937

Congrats to Scott on the wins. Seems like the racing up front got a little closer each race. Good to see Trevor and David M back.

Didn't log in in time to catch Race 1 . Race 2 started out well, but at the start of the second lap I didn't leave enough room for Randy on the approach to T1 and we touched wheels (Sorry!) After the tow came across Ralph who was having some issues. Followed him off the track at the top of the hill once but didn't fall for it the second time.

3rd race was much better as Art Jeff and I ran close for the opening laps. We came across Paul who had an issue at the top of the hill. A few laps later Paul caught me and we got separated from Jeff and Art for a bit. Managed to stay in Paul's draft for the remaining laps, taking 0.5s off my PB in the process. Was planning on staying there until we caught Art and Jeff but had a good run on Paul once so had to give it a try. ;-) With 2 laps to go we caught Art and Jeff who were having their own scrap. Art dropped out when he got sideways entering the back straight. Last lap Paul, Jeff and I are nose to tail and it ended like this:

We're at Zandvoort next week in the GT3 cars then off to Montreal in the Mazdas.

Brian has already put the video I made for him on kijiji. Don't think he got many takers. I'm not in it but can catch glimpses of either you or Mitch in the background... hard to tell with the helmet on. 8O :orglaugh:

Congrats to David and David on the wins last night at Zandvoort. Good to see all 4 cars represented last night.

Wasn't sure was going to make the races last night. Been home sick with the flu. Funny how I felt the best I did all day while racing, but maybe that was just the dristan. ;-) Grabbed a setup from last season and just planned on taking it easy. Once got into the rhythm found myself chasing Jeff and Mark, and John was keeping me very honest. Made a few small setup changes before race 2 trying to get rid of some of the push but didn't seemed to help much. Was following Mark in the opening laps when we came across a couple cars parked in T1. We got through ok but Jeff took advantage and got between us, so ended chasing the two of them again. Tried pushing a little harder this race, so of course made more mistakes. Art hovering about a lap down added more entertainment. Towards the end Scott caught up after an earlier incident, so I made it easy for him by getting a "slow down" at the chicane. Had a spin after that so didn't get to watch him get around Jeff and Mark.

Montreal next week in the Mazdas then VIR in the GT cars.

I apologize for the constant spins tonight (and these past few weeks). I am no pro, but normally I am nowhere near this bad... It seems like my racing wheel has finally essentially died. :(

Something inside (a gear, or something similar) seems to slip, putting my wheel off-centre with the force feedback mid-corner, and darting my car into walls trying to turn in/exit. Race 1 tonight I was attempting a simple pass down a straight, and my car simply kept going to the right and ran into the barrier... and in race two the wheel didn't un-wind like it should have (again, by this point, off-centre) and ran into the "wall of champions" :?

Thankfully I did not run into anyone during a race, but I believe this will be it for me for at least a month or two.

Sorry to hear that Rej. Noticed you didn't stay long for either race. What wheel do you have?

I had a computer gremlin as well last night; it wouldn't detect one of the monitors. The monitor works if switch it to one of the other ports, so is either the port on the back of the card or the cable adapter (display port to DVI). Was weird driving with only the center monitor.

Congrats to David M on the wins. last night

Montreal is a great track but it's not very forgiving. Get it just a little wrong and there is a wall right there to punish you. Add a car that doesn't like cold tires and makes for some very interesting race starts.

Don't know if it was the lack of practice or getting used to the new view but couldn't quite seem to get a lap together during qualifying. Starting near the back was a good idea anyway. Got caught up in the Keith/John thing at the start. Think it was John's car parked on the track that I hit (didn't realize it was stopped until it was too late). After it was sorted they came out of the pits just in front of me a lap or two down. Followed them until we came accross Ralph and Mark. Got a little confusing for a bit as the faster lapped cars were mixed with the cars on the lead lap. At one point was having a fight with Ralph. We got through one of the chicanes side by side, but we ran out of room on one of the exits and tangled. I snuck into the pits for a quick repair , not sure were Ralph ended up. Since didn't have anything better to do I spun right in front of Scott in the last chicance on the last lap , just to make sure he was still paying attention.

Second race was getting a little wheel/screen coordination back but still decided to start near the back. Once the tire warmed up Keith and I were chasing Randy. Was going well until I ran over Randy in the hairpin, and Keith got tangled up in it as well. Chased down Randy again a few laps later and spent a few laps trying to figure out how to get by, but he helped out by brushing a wall which let me through. Was chasing down Jay at one point who seems to be improving all the time, but one of the walls got him before we could get anything going. After that was just putting in laps.

VIR next week in the GT cars, then to Mid-Ohio in the Mazdas.

Yeah, I've been to this track and I spent some time practicing a couple of evenings this past week. I'm still off the pace, but Scott's shared setups get me going. For most of the first race, I had a good rhythm going and I was in 5th for most of the race...felt pretty good to see Scott just ahead of me. During the second race, I had an okay start, but then lost the battery power on my headphones. That's when you saw me crash! It's amazing how much you rely on inputs (like sound). I wish I could add seat-of-the-pants to the input!

Practice, practice, practice.

FYI: I have a new Fanatec V2 wheel that's suppose to ship at the end of the month. I'll have my Fanatec Porsche GT3 wheel available for sale, soon.

This is key to fast and consistent laps times. Personally, I find I need to run at least 100 laps before I settle into a groove and reach the peak of my [limited] natural ability. To get faster from there, I need to start studying replays and telemetry of faster drivers.

But yes, if you can find the time to do ample practice prior to race night, you will find it much easier (and more fun). I'm always available to help out as well, whether it be setup development, track guide, or just someone to lap around with. Just send me a message. Same goes for anyone. :)

I find the current series very competitive, and my lack of time available to practice (zero) is showing.
I only turn iracing on typically 5 minutes before qualifying on league night and never touch it otherwise, that is not enough now.

You are getting better Jay, just keep shwoing up and it will get easier to stay focused for an entire race.
Iracing is not easy, it gets closer to a true simulation with each tire model they release, its is VERY close now.
As an example, I can plug the setup from our Pro stock into the super late model in the game, which is modeled on our exact car, and it drives more or less identicle to our real car, its shocking, its that close.

Thanks for the insight and offer to help, Scott. I need to figure out where to find helpful data...perhaps it's in the forums.

Funny...I recall practicing the first night and getting into the 1:39s. Then I looked at the fasted laps at this track in the Star Mazda...1:33...I couldn't believe it! But, as you practice and really start to analyze maximizing exits and concentrating on optimum corner entry...you can find tenths of a second in many areas. Funny how you start to listen to yourself after years of preaching to students.

Paul is absolutely right about the tires. I don't think many drivers have ever had the opportunity to drive a real car with cold slicks on a race track. Well, it's like driving a car in freezing rain. It takes a lap or two to get the warmed up so that the pressure is correct and the grip is finally there. iRacing has done a good job of this.

I love the challenge...

Since the Regulars schedule is mostly following the official iRacing series, you may find some early development setups and replay videos in the iRacing forums. But since it's only the first day of the official series week, resources may be limited.

What you can do, however, is simply search for replay videos on YouTube. Ones that show the pedal inputs are most helpful.

Another thing you can do is use the Lap Analyzer tool included with iSpeed. It's free software and is an invaluable tool in finding out where you are losing time.

See my old post on iSpeed here: http://www.armsinc.ca/forum/viewtopic.p ... 499#p95499

And here is a detailed document on how to use the Lap Analyzer tool: http://members.iracing.com/jforum/posts ... 38954.page
