Looking for a good base setup, including front and rear camber, caster and toe in. Not looking to steal anyone's secrets but also do not want misinformation. If you can share some genuine sincere info. with an old fart that's past his prime it would be much appreciated. You can pm , email, phone whatever means works for you. Conversations will be confidential. Thanks

That car should be decent (not perfect) unless the other BB made changes last season that detracted from the car's performance… this site is your new best SM racing resource, use the search forum function to answer all, or most, of the noob questions you can dream up... http://mazdaracers.com

Hawk blues are an option, as Bruce mentioned in another thread, Hawk DTC is a newer, popular pad for SM, I can't elaborate on compounds because I don't know... search brake pads and/or Hawk pads on the Mazdaracers site for pad tech information, characteristics, comparisons etc

Alternatively, you won't go wrong with Carbotech XP10 (orange) compound front and XP8 (silver) rear, with new or resurfaced rotors if you are switching from another brand.

Kinda late now, but Frank Ewald has an annual Carbotech Group Buy each winter which saves you 20% off retail. Something to keep in mind if you want them for next season: http://www.frankewald.com/

We run the Hawk DTC-60 on the front and the DTC-30 on the rear of the Del Sol. We have run Carbotech XP-10, XP-12 and XP-20 in the past. great pads. The XP-20 is a endurance pad and last longer then the rest but you lose just a bit of braking. nothing to be worried about. But for the Same money as putting Carbotechs on the front of the Del Sol we can put the DTC Hawks on the front and rear. So we switched. Found we had better braking with the DTC pads over the XP-12, and they lasted the same amount of time. They wear the rotor the same as well. We ran 1 set of Brembo blank rotors last year, and they did the May weekend this year. Little vibration so they will be replaced. Putting the DTC-30 on the rear really helped us as well. Much better braking and the rear dosnt wiggle around as much as it use to. And you only see a a very little amount of rear lock in T2 and T9. Unloaded wheel, sometimes in the air.

I think Bruce and a few others run the Hawk Blues. There a good pad but when i had them on my civic it was way to much. breath on the brake peddle and it locked-up. And they destroyed a set of rotors in 1 week of street driving. (There not a street pad, that's what killed the rotors, But that's a idea on how aggressive they are) Most people who have run the Blue and tried the NEW DTC stuff switch. But when Hawk first started the DTC line, I guess they had a problem with the backing plate coming free from the pad material. But they say they fixed that and we have not had a problem in the last 2 years of running them. 4 sets of Pads used in the front and 2 in the rear. But I dont see Bruce locking up much or the others running the Hawk Blues, so they are working good for them as well. And i am guessing they get 2-3 weekends to a set of pads the same as we do.

Don't know if it makes any difference, but I think the NB model Miata has larger front brakes than the older model cars the rest of us are racing. They are only marginally different, but they are different none the less.

As far as compounds go, I don't really have enough knowledge to contribute. Miata brakes seem to work really well though, so maybe pad choice comes down to the feel you like the best. We run Blues front and back because they were a safe choice when I didn't know any better, and went almost a full season last year on the first set of fronts. We put new rotors on with that first set of pads and they are still on the car, now 1/2 way through the second set of pads. I've got no complaints about this setup, even though there might be better choices out there. These cars stop well.

Thanks guys. Mike the carbotech guy says my pads aren't ruined they just need to be scuffed with some sandpaper. Got new rotors. No one has hawk pads in stock. Might be 10 days delivery and would be an additional special order charge. Thanks for the detailed info. Leaves no question to ask. Exactly what this site should be used for.

Brain, When you order your next set of pads, contact Perry Performance in Quebec. 1-450-662-8886, Ask for Carl Wener. He sells to a few Nova scotia guys. Thats were we order pads from. Sent a Email to them, and 5 days later pads were dropped at the shop. Yes they were in stock there, but he should be able to get them quickly as Spec Miata isnt a small thing. Just get a idea on how much Hawks will cost you.

Also, I thought you did a great job last race weekend. You did 1:24s. Brain bower wasnt much faster and had more seat time then you when he was going faster. He started last year in the 1:24-25 range. And when he was running the 1 hour, there was a purple restrictor on he seat in the pits. lol. Not many people can just jump in a car after not racing for 5+ years and go faster then the car has in the past. And the times from when Bruce M had it are unrealistic. Different drivers all the time. Nobody has ever really run the car and sorted it out for themselfs. By the end of the year you will be faster. 1:22-21. my guess. Watch over Spec miata videos. They will help you get the line down. Then work the rest out from there.
