Just an update.... as of right now the Track School / Lapping Day for July 1st is still going ahead.
It looks like there will be some rain overnight, but they are only calling for 1-2mm of rain in Shubenacadie tomorrow.

See you guys at AMP!

Updates will be posted here and on Twitter @AtlanticFormula

Alright, I'm all signed up and paid. Definitely looking forward to this one.

What's the current rule concerning passengers? I have a friend who's interested in bringing his car out for one of the schools, but is pretty nervous about the whole thing. I think a ride-along would go a long way on showing him that lapping is both safe and seriously fun.

I think the guideline was you generally need 3 lapping days before you can carry a passenger that isn't an instructor. I'm not sure if that's in a rulebook anywhere though.

I actually plan to make it to this one...2 new front calipers going on tonight. Hopefully slemon doesn't break anything this time. 60 bucks until midnight on the 4th right?

The rule book is really oddly worded on that one IMHO:

"14. Novice Drivers
1. A novice driver is defined as one who has participated in 3 three or fewer lapping
events or does not hold an ASN Canada FIA recognized competition licence.
2. Novice drivers on the track are required to be accompanied by an instructor assigned
by the Clerk of the Course until the instructor signs them off to run unaccompanied.
3. Each Novice drivers is required to affix a triangle to the back of their vehicle until
signed off to run unaccompanied.
4. Novice drivers are not allowed to carry passengers for their first event"

I've never seen a triangle on a car during lapping - not even mine, and I'm a "follow the rules" kind of guy. I'll break out the tape for my next event.

My read of the novice driver would say that
A - triangle for first three events
B - accompanied by instructor until signed off (I assume sign off is the issuing of the lapping license - licensing as we do it in ARMS isn't covered in the regs)
C - no passenger for first event after sign off - but if you hold a competition licence (i.e. graduated a Time Attack school), then you aren't a novice, so no passenger restrictions would apply by a strict read of the regs, but I don't think that is the intent of the rule.

In the end, the Clerk of the Course would be the final authority for taking a passenger, so if I wasn't sure, I'd ask them at the specific event. It seems that even who is an instructor is left open in the regs - ARMS has a separate process for that, so not an issue in our region, but would likely be different in another region.

All the rules can be read here - 2012 Rule set published under 2013 Solosport section.

Definitely worth a read.

In other parts of Canada the rules for lapping are less strict than they are here.

Here we follow the sign-off rule by issuing a license (lapping, Time Attack, race), thus bypassing the triangle, however I believe as Brent mentioned we generally use the "3 event no passenger" rule even once the license has been issued, just so that the newbie has a chance to get some experience under their belt before taking passengers. Again it's at the stewards discretion, but it's the spirit of that rule we tend to follow in this region.

Jason, what's the cut off for the online pre-payment deal? I was debating heading to Monday's lapping day, but can't commit until I have my car put back together this evening.

Thanks for the great responses guys, I appreciate it. I should be good, but I'll be sure to check in with whoever is doing steward duties Monday morning just in case.

Matt,

Cut off is midnight tonight (Sunday).
You can still pay at the gate tomorrow, but it's full price ($80), not the $60 for the pre-registration discount.

May thanks to everyone who came out yesterday.
As stated many times before, AMP generates it's own weather system (for good or bad) and yesterday it worked in our favour. Blue sky for 95% of the day, with only a few sprinkles and the nasty stuff passed right by us.
I hope everyone had a safe drive home.

I took some photos and video, they can be found on the AFRA Twitter feed @:

My work is closed on the 2nd, so I can actually make this one! Jason, I assume my previous payment is still able to carry over?

Cheers

Going to try and make an appearance on Monday if I can find the time to jump through all of the license renewal hoops between now and then with a crazy work week.

Took the RX7 for a little neighbor terrorizing run around the sub division the other day. Just need to spend Saturday doing a "nut and bolt," install the new belts and flush the brakes and other small details.
Need some track time to break in the rebuilt engine.

Hey Jason, what's the cut off for pre payment? Also, can I get a membership at the track and a lapping card? I took the race school and had a race license, but not this year.
