For those with memories that extend back to the 90's I have some sad news to pass along: racer John Rankin has passed away, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. He was a great competitor - fast, clean, and a true gentleman racer. He was one of my mentors at the start of my racing career, and we became good friends. I was also fortunate to have him as a university student - and a very top rank one. I, for one, miss him greatly.

Bob Guthrie and John made a great team on the track. You are right Dave, John certainly was a true sportsman on track.

I heard he had a goal of having a boat worth more than his house after he retired from racing ...did he ever accomplish that goal?

Stacy

No, his sailboat was quite modest - a 20 foot day sailer - very competitive, though. He and Jane bought a motorhome, and they travelled a lot in that. They did spend winters in Florida - I don't know if he had a boat there.
