Cal and Meg are due, and around the corner of our area comes the tow vehicle, and the RX7 on a tow rope. It's not ideal.

The team sets to work on under the hood stuff.

The good news is the exhaust is hanging in there, but there is a running issue. It seems to be fouling one rotors plugs.

Wrenches and plugs are coming out, and sorting and checking is being done. There are currently enough folks around the car, so we back away and watch.... The intention is to get it out again. There is no end to the ambition it seems....

Cal and Meg are in.

We go through the usual, checking things, shaking and scraping of New Richmond soil to return it to it's rightful place....

Cal has stated however, the lighting is still good out there. "Don't do lights"

"Are you sure Cal?"

"Yeah, it's good....."

He is the driver, and it's his call. There are some raised eyebrows.

Weather is acceptable, and the car appears to be in decent shape. We zip tie some things, and refresh fluids for vehicle occupants, but the car is really holding up well.

The nut and bolt finishes off, and we plan for fuel.....

We get Cal and Meg out the door....

The Mal and Sonia are being worked on, but it's not looking good. They are reading plugs, adjusting fuel, changing plugs....

They do get it up and running for a few brief minutes, but it only moves 12 feet under it's own steam before loosing the second rotor. Again.

In the fueling stop things are going according to plan for Cal and Meg.

For Dan and Ben, they are not. They are stopped in the fueling zone, which is a place where we cannot touch the car, and officials are watching.

Brian gets down under the right side, and visually finds the starter. Ben takes the jack handle in the Truck, and with direction, begins to tap the side of the starter. This is where your Laptop won't help you. Good old fashion thrash work...

Finally there is a click, and it barks up. Dan feels they have enough fuel for the rest of the event. "It's pump gas, we'll just let it run......"

Off into the setting sun they go....

Back in our service area, there is a bit of a somber note. Mal has decided to call it.

They cannot get it to run on both rotors, and some things still need to be sorted. They have had a good test, which was the objective last Thursday night, and they have a list.

Uptown is back, talking with Mal and Sonia. They are making a list of what did and did not work. I am impressed with this aspect of their operation. Not that other fail, it's just interesting. A book is being kept on what is next.

Several other members have taken the RX7 to be pressure washed before reloading it. It will make it's way back to Home Base for the next steps.

Loaded up, they pull out. There is a hole now in our service setup. Literally and Figuratively. They second truck and hauler gone, we have more of a view, but less company. It's been a busy busy week for these lads.

They make the time to shake some hands and we bid them well. Been an interesting day in Rallying, which is what adds to it.

With some more time available, Oban and Cole are eyeing the Chip truck not far away. Snack time.

It's been an interesting ride for Sonia and Mal.

They are happy with data from the event, happy with the promise of the new build, and in the case of Sonia brimming with a huge amount of learned data in a short period of time.

They continue to mill about our service area, enjoying the atmosphere at this point.

James, has decided to follow the lead of Cole and Oban. There is a vending truck parked not far from us in the service area. This being Quebec, it's a Poutine Truck.

Now Metro Halifax has the Gecko Bus, but here, you can order something called "The Loaded Mexican".

We are not being derogatory towards our friends in the Nascam series parked not far away, no this is Poutine, loaded with most toppings one would find at a Taco Bar. Spicey, Tasty, and Large in Portion. It's being enjoyed all around.

I currently am not carrying enough ant-acid meds to allow me to partake in such a beast, but I respect the plunge they have taken.

We do observe a decrease in speed from those who have enjoyed the dish.

Being science minded, we deduce the following: V=1/PV (PV=Poutine Volume)

All day Cal and Meg have been hovering Top 10 and better in ECRC. It's been a good run.

The tracking is showing them moving along, at pace. Weather has held, which is good for them. We were not so lucky last year, and I confess to being a bit jealous.

Cars are entering Service for the last work period this evening. They will have one more run of Camp Brule, and the spectators that are lining the woods no doubt.

A GD Subaru rolls past our service area, well out of sequence. All you can smell is brakes, and in the dimming light you can see the glow of one rotor. It's that sort of thing that gets you in rallying. It was likely a non issue before the event.

They will be good for fuel we calculate, and we'll do our usual round of checks.

"We should have mounted the lights!" Cal exclaims as he exits the car......

There are lots of answers that could be issued, but none serve to improve the situation.

"Dark out eh?"
"Yeah..."

The hood is a multi person job, and the lights are plugged in. It's not a bad job when your prepped for it, and it goes relatively smoothly. Bolted up, we fire the lights on to make sure they are all connected. It's quite the light show on the tent roof.

A few zipties here and there, and recheck of everything, and we remount the wheels. We've been very lucky. Brake wear is good, fluids are holding, and body panels are all still there.

One more to go, just one more.......

There is not much to be said at this point.

The car is deemed good and sent out.

It's a grand total of 11.13km of Special Stage to go. Bit more than that in Transit, but shouldn't be too taxing.

They need to keep it clean and have a good run....

We start to pack up some things. When they are back we won't linger likely. It's late, and we are tired. Service breakdown will be tomorrow morning.

The transponder is showing them at the time control. A pattern emerges. Pack something, look at the app.... pack something else, look at the app, drink some water......

The EZ Trak has shown them progressing nicely through the stage.

Nothing would show anything odd to us back in service. They enter the service area one last time.

Their timecard handed in, they exit the car to a hearty round on applause. Job well done.

"Yep, we just about didn't finish that...." -C
"All you had to do was take it easy!" -M

Seems there was a debate on pace for the final stage, and what constitutes appropriate pace on the final stage of a multi day event. We leave them to sort it later, for now it's celibration time.

Jon has remembered to bring the mirror ball and lights, which has been hung on a long bit of line to allow it to spin. He took the time to preload it before they came in.

Lots of handshakes and congratulations. To finish an event of this size and duration is not a walk in the park, it's a challenge. As we've seen so far today.

The ECRC results will show 7th overall, with many cars DNF behind them. Those are cars you beat, whether on pace or prudence.

The car is dirty and used. It will need to be gone through, but not tonight.

We pack up and pack things away. Into cars and back to showers, snacks, beer and beds. The order may vary.

Not too many people join us tonight, it's been a long long day. We don't make it late.

The victory has been won so as to speak.

Sunday is a new day, although slightly overcast. We are in a beautiful part of the country so we decide to make the most of it.

Breakfast will include all of the best things. Bacon, Eggs, Toast, and Coffee.

The other cottage inhabitants are inbound to New Richmond, to break down service. They want to do some spectating. The National Portion of the event continues on for Leg C.
We aim to spectate some as well, but we don't feel the need to joint the party at the Jump. Instead, we do road sneaking, and find our way into the stage start area.

We have a field almost to ourselves at Camp Brule. We have the start area, a sharpish left uphill and a large acceleration zone to demonstrate all the components of the vehicle you wish to build.
Lots of impure thoughts are had here. The way Levac's WRC Mini leaves the line and climbs the hill is awe inspiring. A number of '07 STI's really stir the soul for something with a tad more poke, Very enjoyable to watch.

The National event cars run their lot, including Dan and Ben, who seem to have got the beast started this AM.

With the stage done, we make our way around to service. We solidify the packing of things, and make sure nothing is abandoned. We intend to use some time this afternoon for relaxing as well.
A few merchandise tent items, and some more supplies for dinner. Craft beer and James' famous Ribs are on the list.

This will include a variety of dishes, made fresh and seasoned. Some remaining ingredients are needed.

To make access to the SAQ easier, we use the IGA.
It is at this juncture that James relationship with the Maxi finally fails. Everything well organized, good layout, nice people.... He's sold.

The neighbouring SAQ provides a variety of things for one to try that are slightly different from the normal NSLC fare. I was entertained to find Gin and Tonic in a Tin. Daphne would alter admit that yes, she was aware this had happened. Her reply was as if to suggest she tried to stop it, but it was a larger problem than her command could deal with....

Back at the cottage things are firming up, however we are having concern regarding our dinner guests. The Messages are becoming increasingly cryptic, and poorly worded. Almost as if some sort of activity or refreshment is interfering with good thought and logic.

Brian has also suffered some sort of pinched muscle in his shoulder. He continually tries to submit pictures of his arm for us to adjudicate, but his condition is such that we only get blurred close-ups of a mole, one digit, and a hangnail. We assure him he can seek medical attention when back in Nova Scotia.

The Gazelle and I try a short hike in the great outdoors, bound and determined to savour the quiet of the outside. Unfortunately the outdoors is moist, and the humid warm weather has served to make a breeding frenzy of small airborne creatures. We don't make it more than a few hundred meters when beer and the indoors seems like a better venue. There does not seem to be enough deet to keep them at bay....

The guests are arriving.

We have Jeeves show them in. (one of us opens the code lock door as they knock)

Mal has had to return early, and the day has taken it's toll on Carol, so we have extra ribs. Many of them.
We decide they will travel.

We have the video from last year, and we setup the TV to compare conditions on this year vs last. We love the layout of this place and it's Great Room for entertaining.

Conclusions: Yes, you can sell Gin and Tonic in a can, but we are unclear on why you would. Craft Beer is good. Slow cooked ribs are excellent, and we all feel fairly lucky to be part of this group this year.

Head nod is increasingly becoming a concern, and we one by one drop off to our appropriate rest area's.......

01JUL2019. Canada Day.

It's a great day for traveling. Seems appropriate to be doing such a thing in this lovely country.

Sun, clear, and warm.

We fuel us at the Fin Gourmet, because it would not feel like BDC otherwise. We fuel the vehicles at the Petro Can, we fuel the mugs at Tims.

Our group does listen to Daphne this year, and decides that 60 cans of Bud Lite is not a required souvenier of the trip.

Cal, Blu and crew are out ahead, and making significant progress. We elect for a more leisurely approach, and our usual stop in Miramichi. The Pita Pit serves us well again.

Change of drivers and another fuel and coffee stop will put us back in Metro early evening. Nothing to remarkable about the trip. We stop only at Tim Hortons for Coffee, to keep Mal happy.

It has been another great adventure in the land of Rallying. A strong finish for one, and a new beginning for another car and CoDriver.

The Lookoff Rally took place 10/11 August 2019 with teams from out of country, in country, and returning after a break. A good time!

The Trout Lake Rally will take place in Nova Scotia 05/06 October 2019. Volunteers are welcomed and appreciated.

See you in the woods......
