We chat well into the evening. It's been a good day for stories.

With the embers dying in the upstairs stove, and eyes starting to droop a bit, we retire.

Sonia and Jim will make an earlier departure Sunday morning. We'll stock up on Diesel and make our now customary run to the Golden Arches in Clermont for a Large Coffee, and a breakfast sandwich that your Cardiologist would cringe at. Good road trip food.

3km out of town we come across fellow competitors roadside. We stop to offer a hand, but they think they've got it figured. Bad ground they are hoping. There are 3 full service rigs, so once making sure they are fine, we bid good morn, and carry on. We have km to cover.

The Cummins shines on the climb up to 740m above sea level. There will be snow on Mt Saint Anne when we pass. It's a brisk morning. Sonia and Jim have hit snow on their way through.

We will chat, stop for food at A and W, listen to tunes, talk about politics, and make many coffee stops. We'll sing our fool heads off to Fully Completely, find buckets of unshucked peas at fuel stations, and basically enjoy the trip.

The gearbox will need to come apart.... but not tomorrow. The goal has been accomplished, and a rest is deserved.

We have had a great weekend, with good people, decent food, amazing accommodations, and weather that would normally be less than stellar. Given the balance of it all, we'll take the weather.

We'll make Metro just after midnight. A clean run, nothing out of the ordinary. Other than those unshucked peas.....

There is just something about rallying..........

Thanks Ian. Thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Seemed like ages between posts with some of those cliff hangers.

Well done to Mal, Martin, James, Daphine and their crews for making the podium!

+ 1, a great read, from " start to finish " as it were. I was anticipating every update.

Sorry to surf in two weeks later...just catching up with the end of the thread now.

Absolutely fantastic job, both to Ian for putting this together, and to everyone involved. I think the only one of you've ever even met in person is Daph, but even not knowing the folks involved found the write up thoroughly relatable and enjoyable.
