Hi Folks,

The Laffin Lake Rally photos from 27 Aug 2016 my now be found at:

http://www.bluenoseautosport.ca/hmmerk/ ... /index.htm

As usual they start with pictures of general interest. Then we see the Course Opening Car, then Car 1, Car 2, Car 3, Car 4, and Car 5 followed by the Course Closing car. Only the first four stages are covered. And for Car 5 on Stage 3 I got caught out of position and there is only one nondescript picture. That Audi is too quiet!

Awesome!

I can almost feel the dust in (what's left of) my hair looking at these photos

This has been one of my most favorite cars ever, I'd love to give it a proper retirement by turning it into a rally car

Every time I see Harold's pictures it also takes me back to being a stage captain, spectator, or crew chief back in the day. One of many memories that just popped into my head for some reason ...was the telling of politically incorrect knock-knock jokes back and forth across the rally route in the pitch dark between the rally cars piercing the night with their lights at either the Highlands or Moose event. Anybody here on the other side of the road that night in the early 90's/late 80's

There's a story about the dust at this event. My location was at a crossroads early on the (odd-numbered) stages. There was caution tape across the two roads not used by the competitors. And the dust seemed to obey the caution tape! The dust would drift right up to the tape on either road, but not cross it! There were a remarkable number of dust devils at this location, also. Both last year and this year. But last year I saw something I've never seen before or since: a pair of dust-Devils chasing each other around in a circle while also moving along the road. It looked rather like the bottom half of a person walking along the road. (There was another memorable dust event at a rally a few years ago: wherever Robert Mc Kenzie went, that's where the dust went.) - Harold
