Hey,

I work at OK Tire in New Minas and can help you out on tires for the rallycross season. We have a number of quality options offering the best grip but a lot of people want to run a cheap tire as they get destroyed quote easily. I can help you out either way. Mention you are a member of an ARMS associated club and you get a discount. Message me on facebook, on here, or call the shop. Of course we can stud, install, and all the rest. OR we can do CC over the phone or collect cash on delivery and I'll bring them to an event! Whatever you prefer.

Some examples:
Brand name:
Firestone Winterforce (both the original and the winterforce 2)
General ALtimax Arctic / Arctic12
Kumho Wintercraft
Bridgestone Blizzak
Toyo Gsi5
Continental Wintercontact
etc.

Cheap:
Blacklion Wintertamer (or Icepioneer, depending on size)
Mazzini Snowleopard ( I am going to be trying these with a slight "modification" to the tread)
Ovation w586
Minerva
Radar,
The chinese brands go on. There are literally dozens of them.

Cheers

I think we've discussed this before, but do you have access to any Gravel Tires of any brand?

We did, but I just looked up the major manufacturers of rally tires and one I didnt check on yet was pirelli. Recently got a direct connection with them, if they will sell them to me we're set. I'll give them a ring.

Liked the Pirelli K4s a lot up until they decided to self-destruct on us. Not sure what was up with that. They all developed grand-canyon sized cracks between the treads before they were done.

Do you deal with Maxxis? They're decently priced and seem to work quite well.

In my very thorough searches (~5 min on google) the most info i could find on gravel rally tires suggested the lowest working temperature for the softer compounds was usually right around zero or slightly subzero. What would a rally team use for conditions like we saw frequently last year? like -5 to -10 and lots of gravel. Anecdotally, forum goers mention that when it starts to get colder the performance of a decent consumer grade winter tire will outperform a gravel rally tire (edit: in a rallycross setting).

Getting a couple used gravel tires has always been tempting, but i don't recall anybody running them with any success at our colder events.

I'd agree with that. Gravel tires are tougher (Which may have value at the Quarry) but they're not meant for cold. The times we've used gravel tires for RallyCross we've usually been outperformed by snow tire clad vehicles, particularly at the March event at the Quarry. We put Gravels on the Rally car and cheap Cachland winters on the wagon and the wagon worked FAR better.

Oh no, you should run the Hardest Gravel you can find Greg, they work well. 8O

Ahem: What Gord said, they are crap when it's cold. They will take a punishment, but if there is no grip......

They do look interesting.

The cheapest maxsport from Demon Tweeks in a 14 are in the $800 CAD shipped kind of ballpark for comparison if you're able to get a price.

And for other reference we paid $216ea for Maxxis Medium Compound in 195 width. ($206 for 185s, but we couldn't get them in time).

Sorry guys, no Federal Gravels. No Gravels whatsoever. I've tried Michelin, Yoko, Federal and Maxxis with no luck. We got out Maxxis R-comps off their canadian website. THey were actually really quick with great customer service.

Update to the rally guys. It seems like I am successfully moving through the Pirelli Competition supplier application process... More info to come.
