Hi Everyone:

I'm new to the ASCC and am looking forward to my first event (Slalom @ Shearwater later in August). I've done a ton of lapping at Mont Tremblant and MOSPORT (DDT and Grand Prix) in a variety of vehicles from Silverado Pace Trucks to CTS-Vs, to ATS-Vs through to Corvettes and Camaros... (I was the former launch manager for GM Canada and eventually was the marketing lead for Chevrolet Canada).

Now, I'm back home in NS and planning to bring my 2002 Pontiac TransAM WS6 Convertible out for some fun...

Any thoughts on what group I'd be a part of, or any thoughts for a first timer doing slalom?

Hi Paul. welcome to the club! If your car is stock it would be in class FS. If anything is modified, you would have to look through the rules at http://www.armsinc.ca/solosport/documents/ in the Autoslalom section. Or you could list them here and someone will likely chime in.

The TA is something I usually just enjoy on the street, so very little done to it - trying to keep it as factory spec as possible. Only notable would be a Borla exhaust (still running cats, etc.). The document link was very helpful - great to know where everything lies in terms of classes.

Outside of the above, do I need to bring anything beyond the standard tools and possible air compressor to get the tire pressures right on the day of? Is there paperwork (outside of declaration, etc.) that I need?

The more Pontiacs, the better! I'm sorry I won't be able to make it to Slemon this year, it would be nice to see another 'bird in the paddock.

You don't need anything special as far as paperwork goes and you're fine in FS with just the catback as long as you're running street tires with a minimum 200 TW rating. Lots of F-body guys have issues with the power steering over-heating and spewing out the vent hole in the reservoir cap. It mostly just makes a mess and doesn't hurt anything, you may want to consider zip-tying a cloth to the cap to catch the overflow.
