ok, some silly questions:

Can I run my 63 Corvette there still?
What is the min helmet requirement?
Are there still rooms on site available?

Possibly. Noise limit is 96 db. Min helmet requirement is SA2005 if you have a cage. The hotel on site is full last I heard, though there are other accommodations near by.

Noise restriction at an airport? Is it still active...seems odd.

Anyway, I'm over 120 db, so that wont work....

Thanks for the info Ming.

Yes, the airport is still active. The 96 db limit is stated in the ASN regulations and applies to all autoslalom events.

Over 120db measured how far away? I think we measure from 50'.

Can you provide ear plugs for the officials during your official runs?
I would like to see you run :orglaugh:

Ming is quoting a rule book that is built to apply to a shopping mall. I believe that with some thought to the question, there is no reason a race car can't run Slemon, though it may not qualify for awards based on classification levels.

Why wouldn't it qualify for awards?

The ASN rules apply for every event, no matter where they are. SCCA has a hard limit of 100dB and they enforce it. It's not like a racetrack, sometimes the exhaust gets blasted right at you and corner workers are not wearing hearing protection.

(I do love the corvette though)

As the day went on, other plans have come up, so not looking at going anymore.

But I would spring for a box of ear plugs for all corner workers....and not sure 1 blast every hour is going to hurt anyone - trying being inside it for 1 hr and your ear plugs not in right.....!

I'm thinking, hoping, he meant have a great chance...but any car that competes has to be in a class, and all classes are grouped, and awards are given. Leigh and Paul ran the Vette there in 2002 Nationals. It was awesome!

Nope. I meant that common sense needs to be applied. If not, and if someone protested, the car could be disqualified. We are a small region, and with correct thought, ASN rules can be looked at and modified to meet the needs of local competitors and event safety, even five days before the event. That's what supp regs are for. Noise rules in solo are meant for avoiding public relations issues more than course worker safety. Both are important.

Most jurisdictions allow impulse noise in a workplace 10,000 times a day at 120 dB, and 100 times a day at 140dB (which is the human threshold of pain), so I doubt even a workplace would consider a 120dB race car a hazard for course worker based on noise.

Not sure why you think the ASN rules only apply to a shopping mall. As Scott says they apply to all autoslalom events, sanctioned by ASN and ASN Regions who have adopted these rules.

Other locations have even further reduced noise levels
BC Pitt Meadows Airport 92dB (active airport, even more so than Slemon)
ON Mosport Drivers’ Development Track 92dB
    ON Shannonville Motorsport Park 95dB

CADL was fined for holding the CAC last year and exceeding the local municipality noise level bylaw of 55db. I would assume that Slemon Park and or the local municipality also have noise level bylaws.

I didn't say they only apply at a shopping mall, I said they are constructed to make good neighbors. I guarantee that bylaws covering Slemon Park permit noise louder than a race car, given the output of a CC130 Hercules.

Listed levels at facilities are also created for neighbourhood issues and need to be respected - I assume it would be in any rental contract. Those levels are measured completely differently that ASN solo rules. But when there is no neighbourhood issue or facility restriction, given that noise isn't a legitimate safety issue for anyone but the driver who is wearing ear protection by way of his helmet, a region is fully able to relax those restrictions when it is beneficial to do so.
