Hi. I was thinking of making it to the May 14th event. This would be my first time, so just want to make sure I do thing smoothly :).

I have a Fox V3 helmet which should have a Snell 2010 rating so that should be good. I drive a Scion FRS with a drop in air filter and cat back. Does that bump me into another category, or should it stick to CS? Just want to make sure I register in the right class.

Coming from Bathurst, I never got a membership to MMSC or other clubs. Is it necessary? If not, how much is it to enter? I see 20 or 25, but is that for members?

Thanks for any info and help.

You need to be a member. But first time membership is $20 and they will give you the first event free if I'm not mistaken.

I`m interested in trying out the event on Sept. 14th. I`m not a member of any club, but I`m coming from Halifax. Should I get a membership from a local club? Are these events only available for local club members or can anyone take part? Looking at the schedule, is noon the first time drivers are needed?

Hi Snow Plow - we use real names here

If you're from Halifax you should eventually pick up a membership with ASCC or BAC, but since MMSC provides a membership free at your first event that is a fine option (especially starting so late in the season). Members from any ARMS affiliated club are welcome.

You definitely want to show up no later than 11 for your first event if the drivers meeting is at 12.

    You need to:
  • register
  • clean out your car
  • get your car tech inspected
  • ... you'll want to walk the course at least three-four times so you are less likely to get lost on your runs (cones come at you very fast when competing)
  • meet other competitors & look at cars

Also, there are a few events in the Halifax area this season too. This Sunday @ AMP in Shubenacadie, a bit of a big one for your first event, but many people have done this event as their first, and even if you wanted to come out a look around and watch the event/talk to the drivers, etc, it's a lot closer of a drive! Also, ASCC gives you your first event free with membership, and since you're joining after September 1st (pretty sure it's September 1st) your membership (with any club) is valid for 2015 as well, since you didn't get much use out of it in 2014.

I'm out of town this weekend and been busy every weekend there's been a local event. I really wanted to try this season.

So show up by 11. Do I need to pre-register? Also I don't have a Snell approved helmet(Or I don't think so, I have a DOT approved motorbike helmet), is there anywhere to pick one up cheap? Will I need it?

You don't have to pre-register if you don't want to, although it's easier and takes less time at the event, and check under the padding of your helmet to make sure of the rating, we have loaner helmets available as well.

Best to show up early. You want to have extra time to do the extra paperwork, prepare the car, and walk the course (as many times as you can). You can show up before 11, I plan on getting there early.
