Saw this on another forum and thought the results were interesting

Image

The black line is obviously on course - it is the intended driving line
Green line. If you're marshalling, do you consider it on course or off course?

I'd say on course, but its been many years since I opened a Solo rule book. Leaners are informational. You don't get 2 seconds for a leaner either so technically you could plow through the entire wall and still be on course/on-time.

Pointers are not part of the course. It's still on course.

Hmmm...sort of looks like the outline of a stomach.

It would depend on what the course marshal designated them as at the driver briefing.

I voted for on course, but if you're that far off line...you're losing anyway.

On the CASC forum they were about 50/50 with strong opinions on each side. :orglaugh:

It's nice to see that discussion (which I had started on CASC) transcending the borders between our regions. You guys seem to know your rules quite well 8)

Next month, we'll see if you can drive too! :P

I suspect that the local people that are interested enough to frequent the board are also interested enough to understand the rules, and that the more casual people could/would/do make that mistake when marshalling sometimes

It made for a more interesting discussion on CASC :P

As Ming stated, pointer cones are not part of the course, they are merely an indication of direction. The competitor is not "off course" until he skips a gate or pylon (in a slalom).

This is not a judgement call, the driver is still clearly on course.

On a somewhat related note. At Slemon, the course is usually lined with flour. Your are not off course if you drive outside the flour lines.
