Thought I would post a video from an STC SCCA club event at PITT Race. They use the Skid Pad area for the course layout. Notice the speed is in MPH. I started in 1st then all 2nd gear to the finish. Need to work on my driving precision, to far from the cones and my car placement/line is a little off.

A much better run both in time and precision is shown below. This is an ES MR2 Spyder on RE71's. If you read Grassroots Motorsports John was picked to win Lincoln in the October edition. The car is fun to watch. The street classes are really hauling butt. Grip is up, though so is tire wear.

These are the type of courses they set to get ready for National level events. They are very fun and challenging at the same time. I really like the 3 runs in the morning and 3 runs in the afternoon format. Plus when car counts are high enough they have 3 run groups which is really nice, as you can have your lunch and tune the car while the other two groups are shagging cones or running.

Who's M3?

It was Jay's Yellow M3, that I'm using now. We put the suspension and tires from the white car on it. The parts were swapped over after Matt had the car at the Digby Double.

There was another 1999 M3 in STU that ran the new Kumho V720's it was very quick. I think I want to try those tires next.

Wow that does look really fun, it is definitely a different flavor of cone dodging. I would love to try one of the bigger slaloms down there just to see how I stacked up against the big names.

I didn't find the tire wear on my RE71Rs exceedingly bad on pavement, but the concrete at Slemon Park definitely left their mark. Even while running -3.4f / -2.4r camber with what my pyrometer said were the "right" pressures I saw extra wear on the outside shoulder. My datalogger (which uses the vehicle VSC computer) was seeing peaks of 1.4 lateral Gs and sustained force was in the 1.2-1.3 range. I like the grip, but at the expense of tire wear I'm unsure if I like the new compounds on the whole... At least they are flippable, I would have been SOL if I had this issue with my RE11As.

RE71s just do that. The RRAX guys are all saying the same thing, the tire wears on the outside no matter what alignment/roll stiffness they have. On the plus side they are reporting that they still grip down to no tread and don't heat cycle out. Just need to make sure to flip them.

The new gen of ST tires keeps tempting me to make a few changes and drop down to STU. At this point non-hoosiers aren't going to cut it anymore.

The air temps are typically a lot warmer here 28'C to 32'C, so a lot of people have to water down their Street tires between runs. Track temps range between 45'C to 55'C. This likely raises the wear rates some, through overheating and graining of the tread. As you also have experienced the majority of the wear is shoulder. Being able to flip tires is very convenient.
